Items like this I consider essential for long walks where the weather may unexpectedly take a turn for the worse, or simply when there is little or no shelter from the rain or wind when needing a rest. It’s a lighter and quicker alternative to a small tent, perfect for use as a temporary shelter which can be set up and packed away in seconds.Packed down into its stuff bag the dimensions are 9cm diameter x 20cm long, and it weighs just 360g.Setting up is simple – no instructions are required – and involves removing the shelter from the stuff sack, unfolding it and placing it over the heads of two/three people then sitting down on the ground. It’s best to pull in the sides at each end a little to sit on them, thereby ensuring you keep your bum dry and also to pin the shelter to the ground. The measurements when fully opened and are approx. 90cm high x 48cm wide x 135cm long, but the shelter will fit around the persons sitting in it so can easily expand wider, or contract by using the built in draw cord around the base. The ceiling is held up by the user’s heads, or can be propped up using a walking pole. To one end is a ventilation hole with drawstring to close if necessary, and to each side is a window 26cm x 13cm.Once inside the shelter the atmosphere is warmed up rapidly via body heat, and affords excellent protection against hypothermia. I was also impressed by the low odour from the 100% polyester material - some plastics do sometimes have a strong pungent odour, but none present here. The bright orange colour is great for high visibility on the hillside, and there’s a little bit of reflective detail on Trekmates logo. For extra protection against the damp ground I’d recommend using a small sheet of plastic to sit on.Essential item for the rucksack, lightweight enough to go unnoticed but potentially a lifesaver.

This shelter fits nicely in the bottom of my rucksack, where it has stayed. Fortunately, it hasn't had to be used. Having this item offers piece of mind (although I've spent about 20 years hiking with my partner without one). Only takes a twisted ankle and one of us would have to go for help that might be an hour away, whilst the other stays put - getting cold, wet etc. So a good idea.

Purchased to comply with kit requirements for MTB Leader qualification. Not yet used in anger, but fitted the bill in terms of compact and reasonably lightweight at a sensible price. Swayed by customer reviews, which were generally good in terms of value for money. Prompt delivery as usual and easy one click ordering made Amazon an obvious source.

Haven't used it in anger, but I hope I never have to. It seems well made and two of us can get into it OK (we're very good friends!). It is not intended to be a tent but it will keep the worst of the weather off if you need a bit of respite and a cuppa, or in an emergency situation.

My son loves this. Got three people in here quite cosily. Well made products. Packs up into quite a small size. Easy to fold and put away. Great for sitting and having your lunch on a rainy day out walking
