I am a technological numpty and use gadgets unwillingly but I could see the value in trying this as living on the edge of Dartmoor national park and rarely walking my dog on a lead it could help in an emergency for both of us. I admit I found this tracker a one star off, bit hard to set up at first. It recommends you precharge it and I had to as it came with zero precharge but luckily it fired up while charging so I could see it was working and not a lost cause. This was after about 15 minutes of turning on the on button to no avail and the tracker website (or you can use the app) telling me I last logged in 47 years ago. You also have to fit the plug together as you have to slot in a 3 or 2 pin plug attachment. The charging port is magnetic and you can only fit it one way round. The website and account was easy to set up for me on my phone as you can log into Facebook and import your details that way. Otherwise I guess you have to type it all in.The tracking map system it uses is great and it also has the paths between roads which is especially helpful as your lost pet may not be on a main road. It's better than the iPhone maps app I also have although it has weird anomalies like not showing a local church but showing where my local takeaways are.The positioning of your pet on the map is good and was exact unlike something like Pokemon Go which has you roaming over your neighbours gardens even when you are in a static position. The clips (2 different ones for different width/height collars) are 1 star abysmal. It's a loose clip with less strength and more ping of power than a cheap clothes peg. If your dog goes through bushes or undergrowth then it's not fit for purpose. Perhaps ok if your a city dweller. I will have to attractively gorilla tape it to the collar and take the whole collar off for charging. They need to perhaps look at a secondary additional clip like my Medtronic insulin pump has.The box your dog wears is really heavy. We're talking full mug of coffee heavy but about half the width. People might think it's a spirits dispenser which is ok if you have a St Bernard.I will have to report back on the connectivity on walks through woods and trees although my house and garden is heavily surrounded on three sides by trees but it can still spot my dog in the garden.Other points to mention are it only works outside so if someone well meaning takes your lost dog in you might not be able to locate them until they go out again. The battery life is said to be about 6 weeks. You can't replace the battery, you can only charge it.There are monthly fees to use this system which seem a bit steep to me.

Tractive GPS Tracker - XL EditionIn the box.The tracker, dog collar (x2), USB cable and mains charger (It charges up an internal battery) and instructions. What it does. When linked to its app. The tracker alerts you to the position of you animal, car, case or anything it is in. You can set up safe zones so that an alert is only sent to you when an animal moves outside the safe zone. For example you could allow your pony to roam in its designated fields but when it got out the GPA would trigger an alert.Set up.This is a GPS tracker and you need to download an app to link it to your phone. This was easy to do and set up took around 10 minutes. You can use it without the app but that would be defeating the object of it in my opinion.Once the app is downloaded and paired to the unit it can be tracked. The collars included in the pack are not brilliant and the attachment system is fiddley and not that good – this really does need redesigning as this is an otherwise great products Achilles heel.I tried it on one of our ponies who is prone to escaping into our neighbour’s field and it worked well and alerted me to when he did his runner. I also tried it on our dog but the unit fell off the collar so I would not use it with the ones supplied they really are bad.I also put it in the car and it tracked that very well. It is not very big so could be used to track all sorts of things.Overall.The app and the unit are excellent and reliable. The connection system is a bit hit and miss and really needs a re-think in my opinion (I see a few other reviewers have come to the same conclusion). I’ll knock one star off for this as it defeats the object of the item if it falls off you poet ! However, it is easy to attach to other collars and horse bridles etc. Overall the unit is fine and really does give you an exact fix, shame about the supplied fixings.

The app compatibility shines through straight away here, as it's very easy and quick to set yourself up an account using a smart phone and that side of the product really does knit together with the physical tracker very well. It's a simple looking tracker, with a clip to attach to your dog's collar. I found this a bit strange because if you're dog is anything like mine it seems it\s just asking to fall off when the lad's tearing through the bushes, more on that later. This is a subscription service, where the cost of the GPS is what you're paying for. I think the fee is reasonable, especially on an item which could be very crucial. After everything's set up I clipped it on my dog and went out to some woods we visit regularly. My worries about the clip reared up when it fell off about five minutes after letting him off the lead, but luckily I saw and reattached. A few weeks later it hasn't been lost, but it seems it's only a matter of time before it falls off and is never seen again. It's a hard thing to attach in general, because a loop style clip wouldn't quite work because a dog's collar wouldn't fit through because of the clip, but I do feel more work is needed on the design of the current clip in any case.As for the tracking, it works very well and I think this adds to the value and makes the subscription very worth it. You can keep track of the battery life on the app too and the compatibility across this and the site is good. I also have to say that I experienced good signal because the walks I visit are within good signal areas. If you're in remote areas I can imagine it going in and out or not connecting at all, but that's the fault of the overall poor signal quality in this country.

I've owned 2 of these each for 2 years. Overall they're really useful. They're very accurate with a tendency for the signal to "wander" by only about 10 to 20 metres. The software is straightforward and instant tracking is very good with almost no lag in real time information and usually a good signal even in wooded areas or on cloudy days. I've paid for a subscription to get the full benefits of the trackers. They're easy to fit and not too heavy for normal collars on medium sized dogs and can cope with getting wet either in use or when being washed. Just two problems: the clip to hold the unit on to the collar is a poor design, despite 2 different sizes being supplied to fit different thicknesses of collars,so the units easily get knocked off in normal use. I solved this by attaching with insulating tape. The other problem is that after a year, the battery life on one unit gradually declined so that by the end of another year, it discharged in half the time of the other unit. Tractive customer services were very helpful and supplied just a replacement without any extras very quickly and for a very reasonable cost.

I had the smaller camouflage tracker previously. I found it slow to connect to live tracking and really it needed to be charged each night - if you didn’t want to run flat at a crucial time the following day. This latge dog device means no concerns on the charge front - so far on one charge since new it’s at 48% after two weeks with plenty of live tracking. I leave it on the dog 24/7.Live tracking speed is the second benefit - quick and accurate compared to the previous hunter model. The big drawback is obviously the size. About the size of an old Nokia or the weight of a deck of cards. In fairness although our dog is no Great Dane, as a 29kg German Pointer she’s perfectly happy. While me and the dog don’t mind the size of yhe gadget,my wife thinks it’s too big. It would be nice if Tractive had another model with say a weeks charge and similar functionality to this one. But to be honest I’m really happy with this model.

After trying out our son's cat tracker we decided to buy a Tractive Tracker for each of our two Anatoli-Collie puppies. They have reached the age (8 months) when they are managing to get under or over the fencing surrounding our garden and the trackers have been invaluable in locating them both. The clips that are supplied with the trackers may not be sufficient if as our dogs crash through undergrowth in woods. Also, when they have been play fighting a clip has fallen off. Consequently we have felt it necessary to use strong tape to secure them to their collars to ensure that they remain attached. This is our only concern as operationally, the trackers are excellent allowing us to know where the pups are in real time.We could not manage without the trackers now and would recommend them to all dog owners for their peace of mind and for the security and safety of their dogs.

I’ve only just received the product so a review after 12 months might be better but these are my initial impressions. It seems well made and the instructions are concise and easy to follow. It’s easy to register online and sign up for the mobile connection and care package. The tracker worked out of the box and the app is easy to use. I’m confident that should it have to be used in a search situation it will make finding my dog much easier.Other people have commented on unexpected costs and there’s no doubt that the company’s advertising is a bit light on that, giving prominence to the monthly equivalent of the 2 year deal. That’s a bit naughty but I do feel that the fees are not unreasonable for what you get.I just wish they were a bit more upfront about it.So far so good but so far is not very far at this stage of ownership.

This GPS tracker can be attached to anything to track it. Dog. Horse. Cow.... Anyway, our subject was a dog. He was reasonably happy to wear it, but it is quite a chunky tracker so probably better not to go for the XL for a smaller dog (he's a weimeraner). It then fell off. While we still in the house. Anyway a bit of fiddling seemed to make it a bit more secure. The app was easy to download, and the whole set up was pretty easy. We then trialled it in an enclosed area of woodland (in case it didn't work). But it did, and was pretty accurate. The negatives are the bulkiness, not being too securely fixed to the collar, and the monthly subscription.Definitely worth it if your dog runs off a lot!

i have & have used , both the standard & the xl tractive units & am more than happy to be able to leave a glowing review ... the units have picked up & held signals in areas where our mobile phones have had no signal at all ( scotland / lake district ), they are easy to set up , easy to use; , not needing a sim card you know that you'll not run out of working time ; , the service use plans are clear & , in my opinion , very inexpensive compared to others i investigated and the customer service team could not be more helpful ( i haven't had a problem , just needed to swap service plans for up-grade of units so asked for advice ) ..if i could give the product more than 5 stars , I would .

For it to be really accurate you need to use live tracking. Normal use when dog is in sight or you want to see where the dog walker actually went its fine. Mine tends to only be out by about 6ft or so ( dog would be within sight anyway ) If you lost the dog live tracking, plus light, plus sound and you can see exactly where they are day or night. The sharing ability means anyone else helping you look can see as well. I walk mine off lead in fields, woods, open spaces and it is still accurate enough to see where he his. The battery life on the extra large is amazing.Got it just after xmas is used at least 2 hrs, sometimes 3 a day , still on first charge 26/03/2020 about 70% now

This Tractive GPS Tracker is a solidly built and robust device designed to help you keep track of your pets (or other objects). This is the XL version and it is the perfect size for my girlfriend's Siberian Husky. It's great when we take him out in the woods as you can follow where he is and keep track on him before he gets too far away. The device is a little bit bulky but the dog doesn't seem to mind it.It is fairly straightforward to set up and there is a monthly fee to pay, which you need to take into account if you are thinking of getting a similar device.Overall I thought it was a useful tool to have but I can see why it isn't for everyone.

I have been using Tractive trackers with my 2 dogs for almost 3 years. I have never had any problems and they have worked flawlessly this far. The battery life on the XL is impressive and I have achieved 2 weeks between charging. During the summer one of the trackers fell off in a field but I was able to walk right to it from over a mile away and recover it as soon as I realised it had fallen off. That is the one fault I can see, that the holder that holds the tracker on the dogs collar is simply not up to the job. I use pouches rather than risk losing them. Overall though I am a fan of Tractive and I would highly recommend this tracker. Brian.

I live in the 'Campo' (Countryside in Spain) and my Great Dane enjoys over 70 acres of private land, however on occasions he ventures further a field. This GPS XXL (although quite large) is perfect. I can see exactly where he is with the live tracking facility and see his movements and where he as been with the calendar history, It even has a 'beeping' that I can turn on and he returns to my property when I activate it. Fabulous device. If there's a downside, its that the battery does not last much more than a week but that is OK, it charges in a few hours. Definitely recommend this.

I got this tracker because my dog was born deaf. Although she is pretty good at not wandering off, it gives me increased confidence to allow her off the lead. I like the reliable tracking and location. Battery life much better than other trackers I have tried which is also crucial if I truly lose her. The GPS signal seems easier to locate than some other makes. My only "con" is that it is quite big and heavy - I have quite a big dog and it is only just small enough for her. Be nice if it was smaller /lighter without losing other excellent features.

I've been using a Tractive pet tracker for 18 months now and have had no problems what so ever. They are lightweight and easy to attach to a collar or harness. Would recommend to anyone wanting peace of mind when walking their dog. All it takes is one second of not watching them for them to run off chasing another animal. Luckily I've never had to use the tracker to find my dog but do use it to check up on my dog walker and make sure that my dog is getting the walks I pay for and that their not just sat somewhere for an hour.
