So much more comfortable than sleeping on the ground! Plus it weighs almost nothing. I wanted something cheap to use backpacking, figuring I would upgrade when I could afford it. That day has not come, but I'm thinking it may not need to. This pad actually provides enough padding for me to sleep on my side, albeit barely, but thats enough. I had a self inflating pad years ago that I loved, but it was much heavier, and eventually wouldn't hold air anymore. With that in mind, I have a hard time with the idea of carrying an air mattress up a mountain just to find it leaks. I also plan to make the move to hammock camping,I've heard mixed reports as to whether or not a pad is necessary for it (they say the sleeping bag compressing under you eliminates its insulating capabilities, so the air draws your heat away), but I expect this is about perfect for the job. I ordered the large pad since there is only a $5 difference, and the weight increase is negligible, but mostly because I'm 6'2" and 215lbs, I'm not really going to fit on the regular.

A friend and I took a 7 day canoe trip down the AuSable River in northern Michigan. When we began planning I had no gear. The first piece of gear I bought was this sleeping pad. A sleep system is critical to get good rest. I am 6'5" and weigh 230 lbs. I was attracted to this pad because of the built-in pillow, elevated side sections, built-in pump and overall length and width given my size. This pad did not disappoint. As a matter of fact by the end of the first night my partner was envious of my pad as his had failed him during the night. He could not stay on top of it. It had no sides, was more narrow, had no pillow, and he had to blow it up by using his mouth. He nicknamed his pad at that moment - the slippery snake. This made for great jokes each evening as he was blowing it up and each of the remaining 5 mornings as I expressed what a restful sleep I had, and wondered just how miserable he had been. He had me forward the link to my purchase as soon as we were back home and has since purchased this pad for our next adventure.

I've been using the RidgeRest since they first became available more than 20 (30?) years ago. For a very reasonable price the Ridgerest Classic serves two and exactly two essential functions: (1) it provides basic cushioning between you and your rocky/pebbley/plywood campsite or hut, and (2) it provides an absolutely necessary thermal buffer between you and the ground (I've used a RidgeRest in the Shenendoah, Tetons, Himalaya, and winters in the subzero NH White Mountains). I'm not at all clear about why a camper or hiker in a sleeping bag would need anything else. Forget the $100+ versions of the basic sleeping pad. This is all you'll ever need. And they don't get punctured and deflate!

Camped on this at 10,000 ft elevation and less than 40 degrees F at night... It was comfortable and kept the chill from the ground away from my sleeping bag. I did use my yoga mat over it for extra cushion and was pretty comfy all night. I prefer a good firm bed, so this set up was comfortable and I was not sore when I got up each morning. I am very happy with it, I only wish it folded up smaller, maybe accordion style like the smaller version. This one rolling up is kinda bulky, but I can manage it since I pack pretty light otherwise.

My hubby is a master electrician and finds himself laying, sitting or kneeling on the ground way too often in cold weather. When you get to be over 65 with knee replacements it gets harder to do this stuff and not feel the cold go right through you. This just came in yesterday but he tried it today and says it's going to be a big help vs the gardening kneeling pads he was using. I bought some 24" velcro straps to hold it rolled up. Wish it had come with something but they were cheap. He says it will be a welcome addition to his van.

This sleeping pad worked great. It was durable during my multi day outing and was very comfortable and worked well on both incline and flat surfaces and did a good job of keepiing me warm. the reason I chose this over the smaller model is my size and this was much larger than my friends which had the regular width models. The only bad thing I can say and really it is just me being nit picky is that rolling it up takes up more room than the models that have the ability to fold up. It is also a little firmer than the lined model.

USA made; forget the foreign made mats that are comparably priced. This mat provides features and benefits that typical compressed foam rubber cannot compete with. The mat would also be great to replace standard yoga mats.Light weight, ridges offer overall body support, (somehow there's a built in "compression effect" that traps air in the valleys making for a comfortable experience), high on the list, the product's material is easy to clean and will not absorb germs, odors, etc.

We had some expensive blow up camping mats that my kids hated. They begged for something more comfortable and easier to pack and use (and repack at the end of their camp outs!). After reading reviews on pretty much every available sleeping pad, we purchased one pad. It was a winner! No rocks were felt under people during the night, it was easy to get out and use, and rolled up in a snap at the end of the trip. We then bought another one for when they are camping at the same time!

Let's start by saying that i'm getting on a bit now i used to sleep on a mat with no problems, now however i need more comfort than just a foam mat so i use a inflatable mat on topEnough about me now back to the mat this is one of the warmest mats I have ever used okay it's bulky but weighs next to nothing and i just strap it to the outside of my pack, you could get a cheap inflatable mat but it will puncture and not be as warm as thisHope this helps Dai

Needed a replacement for my 19 year old thermarest mattress. I still have my 30 year old army foam pad but when I saw this 77x25 on sale for $14.95 and 1 day delivery I had to get it. I’ve used self inflators in the past but they stop working. Closed cell foam pads are dependable, reliable, sturdy, comfortable and super lightweight. If I could rely on a self inflator to work I would but I weigh over 250 lbs and haven’t bonded well with them thus far.

Ordered this mainly for winter camping. So far I've used it in below-freezing temperatures on a surface that did have snow beneath the tent. My cheap tent did let some moisture in, but this did a great job of keeping that away from me and my sleeping bag. I can't wait to try this in spring, summer, and fall. The product appears to be well-made and I would expect this to last well over a year. For the price, I'd say this thing is a bargain.

Not comfortable liken air mat, but so light. The trick is to find soft ground to lie on. This one is bigger than mu previous one, but at 6'3" that's nice for me. I would argue this is the best closed cell foam pad out there. It'll last 20+ years. It also goes under your air mat for winter/high mountain camping to increase your warmth/comfort level considerably, or to protect it when on rough ground.

I have used this in 2 cold weather camp outs. It really does trap your body heat. It is a bit firm. So if you like soft sleeping surfaces bring an extra pad to put on top. It does not roll down as small as most pads that I have seen, but the sleeve it comes with keeps it in the shape it needs. I laid it on top of an air mattress both times, and it kept the ground temperature out.

Used it once in 30 degree weather. It worked well. I also had it on top of a leaf bed that I constructed in efforts to make the ground more soft. This layer of leaves probably add some additional insulation between the ground and I. But it worked well, my only complaint is that it is large to strap onto a backpack and carry. I expected this though so I blame myself.

This is a very good sleeping pad for car camping ... comfortable and durable with good insulation considering how thin it is ... I would not recommend it for primitive camping because it is bulky to transport ... otherwise, it is a good choice ... consider the Therm-a-rest Z-lite for backpacking because it folds up nicely and is more compact to transport ...
