This works really well! I use it under a thermorest neolite air mattress for winter/snow camping for that extra little bit of warmth. I haven't tried it on its own so I don't know if the heat reflective element works better than the closed-cell foam pad my husband has. My thermorest neolite is all the padding I need, so I can't say how comfortable the ridgerest SOLite is on its own. I get really cold easily, but enjoy camping and kayaking so much I wanted to keep doing it through the winter. I camped in temps in the high 20's to low 30's and snow, and even in my 0 degree sleeping bag, I felt a chill in my hip and shoulder when sleeping on my side. I appreciate the extra warmth of the SOLite and the little extra padding. However, the large is really huge! Check measurements before purchasing. The large size won't fit in my kayak and it would stick out a lot from my back pack if used for pack packing. I wish I had bought something smaller. I'm thinking of purchasing the regular size.My only complaint, like some other reviewers, is the SOLite it stiff and really hard to roll. Rolled up, its huge, about 10 inches in diameter, and really too big for easy packing. For car camping, it works fine, but for back pack camping, it would be difficult. I'm hoping it will loosen up with use.

I bought this for a backpacking trip (which was halted by the government shutdown) but I ended up using it anyway on a car-camping trip. I used it on top of my air mattress the last couple of nights of my 6 night camping trip and it made a world of difference. The first few nights (without the RidgeRest) I was cold in the wee-hours of the morning, but, when I tried putting this down between my air mattress and me I was comfortable throughout the night(s). My friend, on the other hand, brought an inflatable backpacking air mat and it went flat by day 3. I was happy that my RidgeRest could not go flat no matter what abuse I put it through. The only downside is that it's bulky--despite it's light weight. For backpacking, I might cut off 8-12" just to make it less cumbersome.I would recommend this product for backpackers and car-campers alike as it is lightweight but efficient at retaining your body heat.

I bought the therma-rest sleeping pad (along with the coleman everglades sleeping bag) for my son in Boy Scouts. The first time he used the sleeping pad was during a January 2014 campout. overnight low temp was 36 f. the sleep pad and sleep bag made a perfect combination for the cold weather and kept him comfortably padded and very warm being insulated from the cold ground by the pad . My son said he actually got a bit hot. My son is 14 and 5'7" so I purchased the large size. although it was much larger than we expected (as long and wide as the sleeping bag) and a little bulky (not in weight, but size) the thermarest pad delivered good comfort and superior insulation from the ground. An excelent product for the cost. Light, but a bit bulky. If your looking for compact, go with the regular size, or just fold the large one in half for twice the comfort and insulation :)

Who ? Me a 6ft 4 tall ,19 stone man, who loves hill walking and carrying all my own,Aged 50 I still struggle with metric measurements, but this large mat was ideal as I walked the knoydart peninsula in may 2014 ,was longer than I expected, wider than expected , they say try before you buy,and see those measurementsBut on its arrival I can only say for Scotland this May , it kept my sleeping bag dry, me very comfortable to sleep on and plenty of space to roll over and move, on wet peat soil ,I wouldn't want smaller or lighter unless I was camping on a grassy knoll in summer on the South Downs,This is a life saver and for an off grid/route hill walker you need it,Yes I brought the wrong size as I wanted lighter and smaller but this came into its own on wet bog land

I bought both the RidgeRest and the Z light. I used these to go on a Boundrary Waters trip in February of 2015. When we headed out it was -35 ambient and when I woke up the thermometer was burried at -29. I used a shovel to create a cave in a drift on the edge of an island. Laid both of these down on the ice and used my -40 sleeping bag with a fleece blanket on top of that to catch the condensation so my goose bag wouldn't get wet. These pads are really amazing, I never felt the ice radiating cold through my blanket. We slept out there 3 nights and I see no need to change my sleeping system. I did prefer this one over the Z-lite because of the wider size, even though it doesn't fold up it does roll up nice but is wider..obviously.

I purchased the long sized pad for a ridiculously low price. Long means really, really long. I'm 5'11" and had plenty of overhang above my head and past my toes. I cut the pad in half and trimmed around the sides to closely match my mummy bag. In the end I have two lightweight 3/4 pads that cost roughly $10 each. They'll take plenty of beating. I have not noticed any of the silver flaking off as a few other reviews mention. Since I primarily hammock camp, I wasn't worried about finding a cushy pad. I simply needed the insulation, so I can't really speak as to how comfortable they are on the ground. Overall, I'm tickled with my purchase.

I have the ‘Byer DuraSteel Cot’, which measures 6'4" long and 2'3" wide. I purchased the Therm-a-Rest RidgeRest SOLite Sleeping Pad (Large, Silver/Sage) and it fits perfectly on this cot. I do about 18 camping trips per year, so this has been getting a lot of use. Save the packing sleeve it comes with, you can reuse it to roll the pad back up for storage. I have the ‘Big Agnes Lost Ranger 15’ sleeping bag: the Therm-a-Rest keeps me very warm and works as advertised. Maybe a little too well; it will keep any heat below you from escaping. It is too big for backpacking, although it is very light. This should be in anyone’s camping gear.

Lightweight and works. We were camping and sleeping in Utah in some 30 to 40 degree weather at night. If you are looking at this product, you probably already know you need something between your sleeping bag and the ground to stay warm. These will do the trick without spending hundreds, but at the sacrifice of size.We bought some double sided Velcro tape to keep these rolled up and secured against our packs. If you try to put them in your packs, you will need a very large pack and lose a lot of space.Backpacking with these is not optimal, but if you will be camping and living out of your car, these are the way to go IMO.

Definitely super light, which is a big pro for backpacking. As it's foam, no risk of losing air from an inadvertent puncture. However, it is bulky and while it does a good job retaining heat, it's just okay in terms of providing comfort. It was comfortable enough that I could sleep through the night, but not enough for me to run door to door in my neighborhood yelling at neighbors at 2 am to come try it out. Probably ideal for the hiker that is one notch below being willing to sleep on the bare ground or on pine needles and beaver hides from their most recent mountain man excursion.

This is my second purchase of the SOLite closed cell foam pad as the first one got lost during a blizzard while snowshoeing. This is my thermal barrier when camping in the snow and I use the ZLite when going up higher on the mountain for a lighter bag. When combined with my Thermarest Pro-lite I can sleep on any frozen surface without issue. The closed cell foam pads also work well during the summer as they can triple time as sleeping pad, sitting chair and floatation devices in the high mountain lakes! :-)

I like it a lot it arrived on time and as described. It does what it needs to do and keeps me off of the cold ground so I don't lose too much body heat, I feel the silver side doing it's job and reflecting my body heat right back at me. Definitely a life saver for me and I will purchase again as the need arises or when I finish destroying my own from heavy usage. Is seems durable, i don't feel like I need to baby it, I don't have to worry about punctures and I expect to get some good use out of the pad.

As good as recommendations.I tested it on snowfield at about 27 degrees. I put a 16mil tarp on the snowfield first and then a tent. And then, I put the pad in the tent. It’s freezing when I touch the ground of the inner tent. I can feel a cold steam from the ground so I try to fold the pad thrice and sit on it. That keeps me warm. And I can’t feel any cold steam when I sit on it. :) It’s still cold inside, I still need two long sleeve cloth and a winter puffer jacket to keep me warm in freezing air.

As an MCS person, I like it because I didn't detect any smell on it. It has no fire retardants, which makes it the best choice for anyone!!!! I wish I knew what their prop 65 warning is about.Update: 03/05/2018 Aluminized Coating peeled off on first use. Put a sheet on it and after a few days, took it off to wash it and discovered that the surface was already peeled. I still like that it doesn't smell too bad, but who knows what's on the "patented" coating:(

Because my son is extra tall, I got the longer version. He used it volunteering in Alaska and the only problem was he had to pay $20 as checked luggage (Alaska Airlines) from Seattle to Anchorage, but not on the way back from Fairbanks to Anchorage (it could be a carry-on) So just know this in advance because it certainly wouldn't fit inside any backpack or suitcase...maybe a duffle bag, but you would take up a lot of space needed for other things!

I received the mattress 4 days ago. I have been testing it since. Within 3 days, the silver coating started wearing out as some other reviews have stated. I would say over 40%-50% of the surface area. It is comfortable, warm, and light enough that even with the coating rubbing off, I am not going to deal with returning product. It does suck to think a brand new product looks as if it has been used for years in just 2-3 days.
