Installing the three components of the suite; Vegas Movie Studio, Sound Forge Audio Studio, and DVD Architect Studio, was quick and easy. As with many products, it needs to be activated and registered online to continue using it after a short trial period. This was no problem, but it would have been better if all of the components of the suite could have been activated at the same time, instead of individually. I am running the package under Windows 7 Professional, on an AM3 Phenom quad-core system with 8 GB Ram and 2 x 750 GB SATA disks.Having previous experience of video editing with a number of different applications, I knew what I wanted to do, and explored the product's features from that point of view. The supplied product training tutorials are well worth watching, although the voice of the presenter is a bit wearing after a while, but they give a very good insight to the capabilities of the software and the workflow process.I use a Panasonic DV camcorder for projects that I want to output to DVD, but more and more I'm using a Flip HD for everyday use, and output to Windows Movie or upload to U-Tube. Video capture is very straightforward, from either device, using Firewire and USB respectively, and the DV device control is particularly good, with no dropped frames. Previously captured clips, in a wide range of formats, can also be easily imported. Project settings can be selected individually, or can be left to default to the format of either the input, or output media. The user interfaces of all components are well laid out, and panel windows can be undocked and left open on a second monitor, which is very helpful. Editing, with real-time playback, is made very easy by comprehensive dragging and dropping of clips, transitions and effects from their respective panels to the timeline. Settings can be adjusted easily using a comprehensive array of slider controls.Using Vegas Movie Studio as a base, the other components are activated as part of the workflow, although each component can be used stand-alone. The Sound Forge Audio Studio, in particular, looks to be very useful for independently editing and creating audio files.Considering how comprehensive this package is, I had no difficulty in finding my way around and very quickly created short test movies, complete with titles, transitions, and effects in a number of formats, including DVD's with menus. There is even a 3D capability, which will be something to explore at a later date, but first impression is that it looks very interesting.I am extremely impressed by this product; it is well featured, with great functionality, and a very intuitive user interface. The 'Show Me How' button is really useful, it opens a tutorial window which is tallored to the feature being used, giving real-time help without leaving the application. Over a number of years, I have used several video editing and production applications, including Adobe Premier, and pound for pound, feature for feature, this is absolutely the best value package I have come across. I am looking forward to fully exploring its capabilities but, just on what I have seen so far, I would thoroughly recommend it.

Well, I was completely blown away with the Sony Movie Studio HD software. It's not worth me telling you what Amazon have already told you - the product description probably only skims the surface. So, installation. I timed it and it took just over five minutes from clicking on install the studio to the point where it had installed. You then of course, when you launch the software, to register it and add in the licence key (that took less than a minute). Now, please don't confuse this with a DVD authoring piece of software - such as Nero - this is a complete video editing and production studio.Inside the box you will find two discs, a pair of card 3D glasses and the licence numbers you will need to register your products. One of the discs contains the software, and the other is a really good DVD which shows you what the software will do, and how to do it. It is just a rough tutorial. Once you load the software and get into it, you will find that there is a built in tutorial. It's not a tutorial that you just read, it is interactive. It will tell you what to do, and then get you to do it.Moving on to the software. One of the features I love is the image stabilisation, you can take a rough shaky picture and turn it into something that looks as smooth as silk. I shot some video on my digital camera walking around my house, it was shaky, but after putting on the image stabilisation, it looked as if I was on a track, it was really smooth. I also love the way that you can add a backing track to your video, or mute the audio so all you can hear is the music. It also has a chroma key function. The software can turn the rough footage you have shot (no matter what you recorded it on) and then burn it onto a Blu-ray Disc (provided you have a Blu-ray burner). You can preview it, create a load of special effects, change audio, add titles and a lot, lot more. Now, I do know my way around a PC, but would not class myself as a film producer at all. However, after playing around for half an hour with the software, I was able to get professional results. For what this can do, I am surprised they are not charging at least twice as much as they are. It is well worth every single penny. Would recommend this to any amateur or even professional movie maker, whether that be weddings etc.

Having tried other programs similar in use to Sony's Vegas suite and largely been unimpressed, it was wonderful to discover a product that does what it says without fuss.Installation was simple, no need for me to call the tech help desk to register the product unlike the Serif product I'd tried weeks earlier. And with an easy to comprehend UI (user interface), importing and importantly, managing the creation of a new video was a piece of cake.Supporting virtually all video formats, Vegas is a complete video editing suite rather than an authoring only program such as Nero and others. The suite is powerful and comes with a reasonable dvd training disc. The training dvd rather than simply talking at you describing Vegas, walks you through the software and importantly, is an interactive teaching disc. Very good and something I hadn't seen with other such programs. In use the program offers many functions not least of which is the coffee mode (my name for it, not Sony's). Not all film makers have sturdy video tripods and video heads attached to their cameras and a quick scan of YouTube you'll see videos shot hand-held. They're so movement heavy that you end up believing the camera operator either walks with a limp and/or had too much coffee and has the shakes. Fear not, Vegas attempts to correct too much motion shake and whilst not perfect, it does an excellent job at smoothing out the shaky nature of the video.Once you have you video in good order you can begin adding effects and more. When the video is finally in the can, like the rest of the product, creating a DVD or blu-ray disc, assuming you have a blu-ray burner, is as simple as pouring a cup of milk. I really haven't got too many negatives to say about this Sony product. Finally price. At a price that doesn't cause the bank balance to quiver, it's current Amazon price is £35 (rounded up) and with free delivery makes for a good purchase. So, whether you're a dedicated video filmer and use you Canon 5dmk2 or any other video recorder, the Sony Vegas Studio HD is a relatively inexpensive but powerful tool that will enable you to get excellent quality films from your projects. This will stay on my PC for quite some time. And on that note, the software is not compatible with Apple computers.Very good.

Before buying Sony Vegas, I was looking for a piece of software to do some video editing with that I could get for a small budget. I initially worked with the likes of Final Cut Pro and the like and that is not only expensive but I would need to get a whole new computer to use let alone function properly. When first looking at Sony Vegas, I thought it would be complicated as the layout (although daunting at first) suggested that it would be a handful but it is quite the opposite.I do gaming videos and I used various formats to do so and using Sony Vegas not only helped me out with the tutorials (Show Me How which focuses more on the doing rather than the telling and press F5 for Contents rubbish)but the program worked very well with the Hauppauge HD PVR 2 which records in Sony's proprietary format, AVC. Not only that but if you are unsure what you are working with, this piece of software can help by MATCHING its project settings appropriately. Talk about efficiency (that saves a lot of time in the long run). It also comes with a lot of bonus effects which are great to look atApart from the Movie Studio, it comes with a Audio Editor and a DVD Authoring piece which helps when making DVD's. A downside which I have found (but may not apply to you and please don't take it away from this product) is that the sound editor does not come with a sort of noise cancellation feature which is essential for me as I do game commentaries and for it not to come with something that is essential really disappointed me. Another thing that disappointed me was that there was FEW options to tweak the technical parts of your projects which YOU have to pay EXTRA for...(I understand that Sony add options depending on how much you want to pay for extra stuff...)Overall, it is a good piece of software which I would recommend for people wanting to do good stuff with a good piece of software, People who are into Media or Film, may want to upgrade so you get extra technical options and an overall professional suite. Joy to work with.(P.S get a good computer...otherwise expect long render times with HD...believe me!)...(and I got this for £21...BARGAIN)

I already owned and loved Sony Vegas Movie Studio HD version 8. I have tried many other movie editing programs and Sony Vegas is my favourite. However, for me, this software is simply an upgrade to a newer version, and so my review is focused purely upon the differences between the two. This suite has many more options for rendering video, but unfortunately to me, they are irrelevant, as version 8 did exactly what I needed to here anyway. But if you have specific needs then they are almost certainly covered here. It also adds the capability to create a video with 5.1 surround sound audio - but only if your camcorder records in this format - so again this was useless to me.Another selling point is the ability to render 3D video - but only if your camcorder records it....... so again, useless to me (and also of no interest to be honest). It does come with the 3d glasses though if this is of interest to you! There are a number of new transitions and other effects, I haven't really played with these yet to be honest, and I am not heavy on the effects anyway, so again this change was neither here not there for me. On the plus side though, it looks like the text facility is improved. I haven't playted with this either, but it definitely looks better. In version 8 you could generally do what you wanted to do, but it was often vrey difficuly and laborious, so for me this is an improvement. One thing that I did like is the ability to move and resize all the different windows on the screen to make it look and feel exactly how you want it to. Although a relatively small change, this is most welcome as it is something I really wanted to be able to do in version 8.So overall, for me personally most of the changes from version 8 are of no or limited interest to me. However, if you are buying this software from fresh (not upgrading from a previous version) then I would definitely recommend it. Compared to other software it may not make everything easy for the newcomer, but it does everything you need it to.

This product has to be the best video editing software out there for its price. I still could not ge tover the price for how effective it is. I had previously been using Windows Movie Maker and wanted something more advanced to carry different functions as I was editing a 40 minute film which also needed special effects. I had tried Cyberlink PowerDirector 8, CorelStudio x3 and I found that although they had great functions they were painfully slow! This slowness made it almost difficult to work on such a project. Although the php function in Powerdirectors are real great. In Sony Vegas I was able to edit almost near real-time which enabled me to ge ton with the editing quite fast.It did seem really complicated at first but adter going through the tutorials and some youtube links it became quite simple. The timeline structure when you get used to it makes it so easy to edit being able to zoom in and out quickly and make quick edits on the timeline. It also gives you a wide variety of file formats when rendering footage although some do not render certain effects properly but it has a great variety. It is definatel guaranteed that with spending £34 you won't get a better software (just over £20 for the video editing alone - at the time - Dec 11').On the other hand it does tend to crash, which im trying to sort out now with a new update, but with all things you do on computer you simply save as you go along. Also when using the media generator for titles it can be real slow compared to other functions but it is still effective. Very limited options wiht titles though, which I expected to be better, but it still gives you the option to create and explor yourself to spice them up yourself. It has really been amazing using the software and I plan to stick with Sony on their editing softwares for the future.Real good software, I would highly recommend!

I do not normally use Video software for movies and graphics, but since I bought a FujiFilm Finepix S Camera more than a year ago, I was tempted to try creating movies rather than just standard graphics which I had uploaded onto a disc using a Windows Movie maker software which was free and easy to use. Recently I spent time on the north-east coast beaches shooting quite a bit of footage (no more than 13 minutes) in various locations and decided to purchase this software since my existing free one kept crashing since it was now out of date.Although I am fairly computer literate, I found this software quite challenging. The finished product however, proved to be something really special. It took me a couple of days, working a few hours at a time to complete the project, and I was quite pleased with the result. Picture and sound quality were very good indeed, and were far superior to the old software I had been using. I knew I needed a lot of patience to work the projects, the interface was challenging to me, although I do know that some PC users would find it quite easy. Well, being a 67 years old pensioner, I might not be too forward thinking like many younger people nowadays who find the technology easier to adapt to. Nonetheless, I persevered, and I am finding it much easier to use. Like everything else these days, especially with technology. it is trial and error. There is a decent help box for those who might need to keep reminding themselves how they do this and that. I am glad I purchased this, particularly since it was being offered at a fantastic price. Software like this does not always come relatively cheap nowadays. Give it a try, it is worth the money, extremely good value, and a worthwhile tool for those who fancy themselves a budding Speilberg, or someone like me, a golden oldie who prefers to being a budding David Lean.

I was having technical difficulties trying to render a project with another brand of video software and was looking for a reasonably priced package to test my system with. I had read very good magazine reviews about Sony Vegas and found this package at a very reasonable price so went for it. Turned out there was a problem with my Windows installation but, having sorted this out, I will not be going back to the software I have been using for the last 5 years - I will be sticking with Sony Vegas from now on! There is quite a learning curve initially but in many ways it is more straightforward than other similar priced programs. The tutorials are particularly useful, both online and on the enclosed disc.It contains some very good titles, transitions and effects (particularly stabilisation which can be cumbersome on some other programs) and rendering and exporting to DVD Architect is flawless. The addition of NewBlue effects and other plug-ins is a real bonus but ensure you update to the very latest version because titles, in particular, can cause pc crashes. There is also a package of extra content on the installation disc but it is not made obvious anywhere in the setting up of the program. The folder is labelled "content" and includes 1000+ sound FX, music files/loops, illustrations, borders and title cards - to access these files, explore the installation disc. It is possible to copy the content folder onto your hard drive.I haven't had a need to use the included Sony Sound Forge Studio but I've a quick look and it seems useful and reasonably flexible providing a means of recording and processing audio files. Files can be opened, processed, including time stretch, EQ, normalised etc. and saved in variety of different formats. For the price I paid for this package (£32.02 from Amazon) it is some value.

Installation was a breeze, the software runs smoothly and, functionally, this is the best movie editor I've tried. It isn't the most user-friendly piece of software but there's a useful guided tutorial and excellent help.If you've used other editors or are prepared to invest some time in learning your way around, you won't have too many problems. If you're impatient, though, and expect software to be entirely intuitive, you may do better elsewhere, but keep in mind that video editing is non-trivial and there will always be a learning curve of some kind.Back to Vegas...whether you need this version is debatable. Are you sure you'll use Sound Forge Audio Studio, and DVD Architect Studio? You may well find that a cheaper version with fewer bells and whistles does all you need. Take a look at the comparison chart on the Sony Creative Software website (Amazon won't let me paste the URL here). The core software is feature-rich and it's hard to imagine anything amateur producers might wish for. The titling, effects and transitions capabilities are particularly comprehensive. Its ability to restore dull (in the sense of washed-out!) or shaky footage is very impressive.Note that, while blu-ray authoring is supported, the choices are limited to 720/60p and 1080/24p. You won't be able to create disc menus, either. Hopefully version 12 will improve blu-ray support, in due course. Not that it matters unless you have a blu-ray burner.Performance-wise, this must be near the top of the tree. Preview is fast and smooth. Rendering, while not exceptional, is at least as fast as anything else I've used (most recently Premiere Elements and Movie Plus X6). There's no background rendering though.A bit of a mixed bag, then, but I'll be sticking with Vegas.

This is undoubtedly a good editing package, and, after reading many reviews I went ahead and ordered it.You should be aware though, that it suggests in the specifications, you should have a computer that is able to run it effectively, meaning a fast processor, sufficient ram, and of course hard memory, plus of of course a reasonable HD graphics card. You don't really need however, to rush out and buy a super video suitable PC to do this, just check your PC will meet the requirements, or if it can be upgraded to do so.After installation, which is fairly straight forward you are invited to immediately get "updates" and of course register before you can use anything. This is the most onerous thing about this package! The information you are required to register for the separate component packages??? Requires separate registration numbers? Where are these numbers? Well obviously not on the outer package, or on the installation CD cover, but inside one of the 3 booklets that accompany the package. Are these numbers unique? Well yes I suppose if yours is the only printed booklet. You will need to enter 4 separate authentication codes to get going.Anyway, (Tired? I was by then!) The package itself is not only intuitive and reasonably simple to use, but contains a very useful step by step guide to all the clever components it contains. It is not difficult to see why this package is becoming increasingly popular. Apart from the registration, this is a good product at a reasonable price and for most will not be a disappointment. If you need more, then try the "Professional" package, however, this does not appear to be reviewed quite as favourably?.

Living in the Czech Republic I still ordered this program from Amazon, just because the price is surprisingly twice as much here in Czech. No problems with Amazon, they delivered it very fast.Till now I was editing in Adobe Premiere Elements, which is in my eyes a great program, but also very slow. I have a good PC, intel i5, 8Gb Ram, Geforce gtx 295, but still the program was after a few minutes of edited video getting very slow. That doesn't count for Vegas Movie Studio. The program is just superbly guick and not difficult to learn. In comparison to Adobe Premiere Elements there are some diffirences in the way of editing, some things are for me better in PrE, some things are better in VMS,for example crossfading (I hope that's the right term :-)).The only thing I really miss in this program is the possibility to slow down or guick up the video a lot - for example a sunset of 1 hour you can't just easily shorten to half a minute in one step, which was possible in PrE. But ok, with a few renderings you can reach the same result, only it takes a bit longer. But I have to say, the fact that the program is this much quicker with the same hardware is amazing and I wouldn't get to any other program. Before the buying of this software I tried a lot of other editing programs as a trial, but none I liked this much. Sony just knows how to do things :-) I can only recommend the program. And yeah, if you are not sure, try the trial from this and other programs also and you will see yourself. Everybody is different and likes a diffferent program. This one works perfect for me....

Sony Movie Studio HD PlatinumThis is truly an amazing software package at an unbelievable price. If you are experienced in using editing systems then learning to use this Sony system will not be too difficult however for a new comer there is a considerable learning curve to be tackled. That said the results are quite stunning and well worth the effort. Before purchase I would recommend downloading the trial versions of Sony Video Studio and Coral Videostudio Pro, both give excellent results but with the Sony suite having the edge though it is more difficult to learn.Installation took around 25 minutes and went without a hitch on my pc under Windows XP Pro with an i5 2.8 Quad Core processor.A further 35 minutes was required for updates then each program in the suite had to be individually registered to activate.Once up and running (with a few reminders from the usefull quick start guide supplied on dvd) I was soon capturing video from my camcorder and tidying up some shakey shots with the wonderful stabilising filter.Burning to Blu-ray without menues from the timeline is straight forward but if you do require menues then again there is some learning to do and there is plenty of help available within the program. This Sony package has enabled me to update to HD editing and Blu-ray burning at a cost of £150.00 including the purchase of an LG Blu-ray drive, in all a saving of £300.00 on the cost of updating my previous editing software. It just has to be 5 Stars for this Sony product.Wilf on the Wirral

I'd previously used the free VirtualDub video editor but found it didn't handle enough formats so I bought the previous version (v10) of this software for our desktop and have learned to use it to a reasonable level (slicing, joining, cross-fades, titles, attenuating sound etc). So I thought it would be good to get almost the same software onto our mini laptop (just a single core 1.3GHz Celeron, about 50% faster than a single core netbook). Installing (from an external USB DVD drive) and registering was easy, incl. the DVD Architect and Soundforge software packages that come with it - I didn't bother with the Vocal Eraser. Vegas loaded a 250Gb 720p HD AVI from my Pentax k-r very quickly.Playback in Vegas was OK although the audio sometimes stutters a bit (the AVI played fine in VLC).I found editing pretty good - it suits a wide, shallow screen and I quickly chopped out the bits I didn't want. Saving was a little complex, as usual. I'd got it to match the input properties, ie HD 1280x720, 25fps (PAL) but it didn't have the WMV output option I'd used with the previous version. I went for an mp4 output instead. As expected it was slow to render the edited video - around 18 minutes for a clip of 108 secs. But the output m4a is fine. Around 50Mb/min whereas the AVI from my Pentax is around 250Mb/min and there's no noticeable loss of quality. So if you're after a capable video editor this one is a good candidate and if you do any audio editing Soundforge is a useful addition.

Ok i brought this software, having looked at reviews and comparisons for various Consumer level Video editing Products. I tossed up both this and Cyberlink Power Director, and decided to go for this software. I was not dissapointed, this comes with DVD architect, Sound Forge studio, and The vegas platinum moview studio here's a breakdown of it.Features: 9/10 This software offers a great variety of features, including timeline editing preview, various special effect possibilitys such as green screen chroma key. The product description covers most of these features, but not all.Layout: 10/10 The product has a customisable layout meaning your prefered layout is alway possible.Ease of use: 7/10 The product does have a learning curve, but many topics are covered in the show me how tutorials and the dvd that comes with the software covers more complex features, also online tutorial will help cover thingsSpeed of software: 10/10 the product works quickly, and eficiently only slowing on very RAM and Processor consuming tasks such as adding a lot of HD footage, and rendering your finished films. However there are numerous fixes to speed up these tasks, that are simple to do and find on the internet.Overall 9/10: a very feature heavy product for a very reasonable and dare i say cheap price. I would recommend it every time.

I've been using the trial version of this for a few weeks now and I think it's absolutely brilliant so I've now ordered the full version. It takes a bit of getting used to because the user interface is a bit different to Windows Movie Maker and other video editors I've used before, but it's well worth persevering with the learning curve because once I got the hang of it (which took about a day) I found it very much quicker and easier to use than the others I've used in the past.I had originally decided to go with Power Director because it seemed to have powerful features yet seemed familiar and easy to use. Unfortunately, although reasonably powerful,my laptop doesn't have a graphics card and Power Director's hardware acceleration means it can't render the video formats I wanted without one. No such problems with Sony Vegas. My advice would be to download the free trial version, which is fully functional but time limited, and see how you get on with it before buying. Also please do take the time to run through the interactive tutorials before attempting any serious work with it. Some of its features are tucked away where you might not expect to find them. But it's actually very easy to use once you get over the learning curve.
