There's a great review of this lens over on video DPReview. My iown experience goes back to a Samsung GX20 with an earlier Pentax non-art version of this lens. That version was universally hailed as excellent. Note this is macro, so slow does not detract from its intended use.Using an A6300. The inner barrel extends for close-ups - the closer you get the more it extends. For macro it's fine. You can limit the range of the lens which speeds up AF. My earlier Pentax version was very slow. This Art version is much quicker. The lens is lightish in weight but not too light. The build quality is excellent. The IQ is excellent. Images even at f2.8 are crisp and detailed. Colours are natural.Bokeh is smooth. Add a little talent and voila!I have a 105mm Sigma macro and Nikon 60mm macro for my Nikon D750. Both lengths work fine. The Sigma 70mm because of the smaller senor give an effective fov of a 105mm, so a reasonable working distance. In the case of Sony the 90mm is twice the price but equal on IQ. Best is to try both out and see where your feelings lay. As ever shopping about for price can be worthwhile.

The auto-focus is disappointingly slow and noisy. For macro work that is not a problem because I generally use manual focus for that. Used on my Sony A7R2 the camera sometimes takes a picture even when not focused at all! Strange, that doesn't happen with any other AF lenses. The slow auto-focus becomes a nuisance when using the lens for 'normal' subjects. It is a very good macro lens and a decent lens for general photography too. That makes it a useful lens to have on your camera for a walk where you may want to capture scenery AND close-ups.It is a fairly heavy lens but for macro, especially, that is a good thing. It enables you to hand-hold with less camera shake. Image stabilisation can't work miracles, especially with macro. The attached photos of a damaged watch were hand-held in ordinary room lighting - auto ISO. 100% CROP 1 shows the damaged crystal and 100% CROP 2 shows oil on the hands. Neither can be seen with the naked eye.

Due to the lockdown and not being able to get out to take my regular photos I wanted to explore the macro world of garden and fields. The lens is everything I hoped for and more... difficult to learn and takes some experimentation, but extremely rewarding. As others have mentioned AF is slow but that Is not much of an obstacle if like most you go manual for macro.Brilliant value for money and highly recommended.

If you dont mind slow AF, the picture quality fantasticly good. Lens is made of very good qulity material as well.Last point, this is the second time I am having a second hand lens from Amazon. The box was opened and lens mount had scratches. Probably, Amazon sent me a returned item again. Anyways, I will keep it, I higly recommend.

Truly an art lens. I bought it to go with my A7iii and I don't regret it. However I've rated it only four stars because the AF is slow and hunts and is noisy. But thankfully I don't ever use AF for my macro. I post pictures on Insta @steffygraphy using this lens. And visit my website steffygraphy.co.uk
