If you ride Shimano SPD pedals you need these. I have tried other name brand, compatible cleats, but find the minimal cost savings (talking a few dollars) to not be worth it. Shimano cleats just feel easier to engage and disengage from the pedals, with a good amount of float, and last longer in day to day use. The SH51 cleats disengage via lateral movement from twisting your heel side to side. There is another model that also disengages from pulling motion, if I read correctly. Having never tried them, I cannot offer more than they do not appear to work for my style of riding, as I suspect I would end up disengaging from pedaling. I have taken a few spills wearing both Shimano SPD pedals and Look's old delta style pedals, and have always had my shoes disengage as designed (like a ski binding).Recommended.

At £9.91 per set (as at 7th August 2017) this set of cleats have proven ideal to combine with my bike shoes to undertake spinning at my local gym. They are exactly what they set out to be, although I would like to see the cost rise by a few pence to include an Allen key; not a problem for me as I have a set or two, but for some users, they might have to purchase one to fit the cleats onto their shoes. As I have said, I use mine solely for spinning, which I undertake three to four times a week. Fitting the cleats to my shoes was as easy as snapping them onto the pedals on any of the spinning bikes at the gym. So far, after about 10 classes, the cleats remain rock solid on the sole of my shoes.A bit expensive for what they are,but I expect them to see me out!

Some other reviewers noted that they received what appeared to be counterfeit versions. I received genuine Shimano cleats, and they installed with no problems. I have another set with around 10,000 miles on them, and they are still fine. I just bought another set for a new pair of shoes. Also note that at least a couple of reviewers "installed" these in some multi-purpose mount style shoes (apparently) and they installed the threaded plate OUTSIDE the shoe!!! Then they left horrible reviews. The plate goes inside the shoe, whether you bought the cleat set with the plates or the plates came with the shoes, and ideally it is a shoe specifically intended for Shimano SPD style cleats for best results.

I bought these for a new pair of cycling shoes (and I'd lost the cleats that came with them). If you're doing the same, you don't need me to sell them to you. If, on the other hand, this will be your first set of cleats / clipless pedals, then my experience may help. Cleats will make you faster. Cleats will reduce aches and pains, especially in the knees. Cleats will make you look like a proper cyclist, even if you don't shave your legs. Hills will be easier and you'll be first away at the lights (if you're not the sort of numbskull who goes through red lights). BUT you will forget to unclip once. Everyone does. Once is fine. We all do it. Just accept it - it's worth it.

The SH-51 Cleats are black and have four degrees of float for your feet. Compared to the SH-56 Multi-Release Cleats, these are much more secure and are generally preferred for the experienced rider. To get out of your pedal, you'll have to swing your heel out a bit more than the SH-56 Cleats. Please Note: These will not work with older PD-M858 pedals (for those you'll need SH-52 Cleats). On that same note, if you have an aftermarket SPD-style pedal that isn't a Shimano branded pedal, these cleats are most likely not compatible with your pedals even though they might look remarkably similar to a Shimano pedal.

These cleats work very well. They were easy to install on my Shimano shoes and clip in to the pedals fairly easy. You do have to adjust them and you are able to simply by loosening the screws and moving either horizontally or vertically. The only bad thing is that the one I use on my left shoe clicks in great but releases with more difficulty. I think it is probably just an alignment issue. On my longer trips they really help, especially when I am going uphill which where I live occurs frequently.

Truthfully; I didn't think that SPD clips made a difference. I spin 5 to 6 times a week and take my spin shoes to the Trek store and have the cheapest clips put on... well ladies (because I'm a female too and the dudes probably already know this)- better clips make a difference. I will be ordering another pair! These clips offer an easier "clip-in" and better foot alignment on the bike. Better forward torque and lighter weight. Who knew? I guess Shimano makes more the great fishing reels...

I got these cleats for my brand new spin shoes, and I am very satisfied with them. They came quickly, and the price is great. I cannot attest to how easy they are to put on- I had someone do it for me- but they seem like they're pretty straightforward. I had absolutely no problem slipping these in my pedals or getting them out, even as a first time spinner. They really keep your feet in there, so they're great for stationary biking. These are definitely a great buy!

I have ridden in the Look style cleat for many years, but my wife just got a new set of Shimano cycling shoes and the fact that these cleats are recessed is a major plus. It is a good thing when you stop in a Mom and Pop store out in the country and don't have to go clopping around like a draft horse in their store trying to find the cold drinks. I mean, you are already dressed like a weirdo so every little bit helps, and the chances of slipping are greatly reduced.

Same cleats as the fancy bike stores sell but much le$$ at Amazon. :) If you're tallying up the cost of going clipless, close your eyes and pull the trigger. You'll never look back. And SPD is the easy choice for most of us casual riders since it's easiest to find a wide variety of shoes. If you find knock off cleats cheaper, I'd advise against it. Don't take a chance with crucial safety equipment. Happy cycling!

This is a great cleat for spinning classes at the gym, compatible with SPD pedals. It is a single-release cleat, which keeps your foot in more securely than the multi-release cleat. That's great for spinning classes. On a mountain bike, especially for trail use, I prefer the multi-release cleat as it reduces the likelihood of falling and being unable to clip out. However, others may have different preferences.

What can I say... It's a Shimano cleat set and is built with the usual Shimano quality you expect. This is the standard release cleat and works perfectly with my Shimano pedals and Diadora MTB shoes. Make sure to use some anti-seize compound on the bolts before tightening them into your shoes and be careful not to strip the threads on your shoes. I have several pairs of these on my various riding shoes.

These fit my Pearl Izumi cycling shoes very well. I use these SPD style cleats for my clippers/clip-in pedals that are on my Giant Contend 1 road bike. Yes you can use these for a road bike, not a mountain bike and yes you can use Mountain bike style shoes on a road bike. I actually prefer this because the cleats are recessed in the soul of the shoes so you can walk a little easier.

As described. I think it would be nice if the listing specified nut not included, but depending on your shoe, it's not required. I bought these for my shimano's, Shimano sells their shoes ready for cleats to be screwed in, so I didn't need it -- as a first time buyer, I was confused by the reviews complaining about the fact that nuts aren't included and lack of description.

These cleats were easy to install on my garneau spd multi flex spin shoes. I watched a few YouTube videos for guidance and figured it out. Definitely use a little grease or Vaseline on the screws because you will be re-adjusting the cleat fit until you get it right. I used an Allen key to tighten the cleats instead of a fancy bolt tightener, which worked just as well.
