Well made, relatively inexpensive upgrade to my road bike. I have been using this for about a month in my 7-day-a-week commuting, and it has increased the enjoyment I get from riding in general, especially up the hills around here. I am over 50, and the original cassette (12-24T) made my hips and knees ache after the hills in my commute, although the tight gear spacing was really nice on more level ground. When this one wears out, I think I'll go with the 11-28T version as a compromise between the closer gearing of the road bike cassette and the super easy hill climbing of the 11-30T.For those interested in the actual gearing of the HG51:● an-group sprocket teeth combination: 11-13-15-17-20-23-26-30T●aw-group sprocket teeth combination: 11-13-15-18-21-24-28-32T● bf-group sprocket teeth combination: 11-13-15-17-19-21-24-28T

Product arrived within a few days of order (thanks Amazon), but it may be worth pointing out that the HG-51 is a Shimano ALIVIO cassette and not a DEORE cassette. I don't know if this makes any difference to other buyers, it doesn't really to me. I'm relatively new to all this, so have to admit being quite un-informed about bike components - I'm just repairing my oldk bike and wanted the same as what I'm removing to make life as easy as possible, so I bought this Shimano 11-28 8-speed cassette and it's a good price. But from what I can gather from Shimano's website, Alivio seem to be the lower end of the market in terms of component performance (aimed at "recreational" cyclists),whereas the DEORE sets seem to be aimed at the higher end. And their website only shows a 10-speed cassette in the DEORE range (HG62).

I usually use Shimano. This model, I will use soon to prepare new wheel, for my bike. It is good quality and price product. Of course, you should be perfectly sure what you are buying. The product fits for specific hub, derailleur and other bike elements. If you are not a bike expert, read manual and technical documents first. This is Alivio class according to Shimano, so it should be good for all user and has high/medium quality. I can recommend this class of Shimano product, specially for normal users. Higher class sprockets are recommended if you are high quality focused or you are a professional, racing biker (but they usually know what they want without reading any comments). Higher class elements, usually are slightly lighter and made of harder materials.

This makes a good upgrade for most 8-speed budget hybrids and mountainbikes. I fitted one of these to a Ridgeback Velocity and a Scott Aspect 50 and in both cases the bikes now run a lot smoother. In both cases I also changed the chains to a KMC Z8S and also added a new Alivio crankset to the Ridgeback. You'll need the right tools to do the job, a chainwhip and shimano compatible cassette removal tool (and maybe a chainbreaker depending on your old chain). You'll also need a crankset tool to remove a crankset (if you change it which is recommended if it's worn badly, otherwise the chain will wear out faster). All very easy if you've got moderate mechanical skills and lot cheaper than getting a bike shop to do it.

The cassette came in good time, in good condition.I had one problem that was my own fault but could have been avoided with a slightly more complete description in the listing. Shimano has series of equipment names familiar to most of the bicycle community. Less familiar are the part numbers. The description of this cassette used the part number but not the series name. Because I didn't pay close enough attention I got a lower grade of part than I intended. My bad, but using the series name, in this case Alivio, in the description would have made the choice instantly clear. Thanks

This Cassette feels pretty good when I'm switch speeds and looks really good i would recommend this for 8spd. I just want to say just make sure when you install it on a new or if your replacing an old one make sure to have the spacer that is required because if you see that it is loose when you install it, it will most likely be because you didn't install the spacer behind the Cassette.

Bought to replace a worn rear cassette after a chain replacement. Took to a local bike shop to borrow the lockring tool. Overall replacement process was a breathe.I know this might be advertised as a mountain bike cassette but it works well on my road bike too. Goes plenty fast and having the option to use the higher gears is a plus.Shifting is smooth too.5*

Delivered in time, good seller. After two weeks using with new wheel (Shimano R501) I can say this cassette is quiet good for the price. Maybe I should think in less teeth for the last gear as this is too big and don't need in London where almost everywhere is flat. Good quality/price. Easy to install. The sprockets are fixed (except two first..).

If you bought a $400 bike, or less, you probably got Sun Racer gears or something no name. The HG51 cassette is part of Shimanos top consumer grade (Alivio) line and is a significant upgrade over your stock gears. If your consumer bike takes Shimano parts, then this is a great way to upgrade or replace worn gears.

Shimano gear cassette always quality at the right price. I've used these cassettes for a good while and they have never failed. Outstanding delivery service from Amazon UK once again during covid 19.Respect to each and everyone of you who are working at this very difficult time. Stay safe

Decent quality part; affordable. Used it to replace a worn out SRAM 850 cassette (which, in turn, had replaced a Shimano HG50) on my commuter bike. The shimanos seem to be a little heavier, but I like the smaller jump between sprockets 8 and 7 (might as well be placebo effect, who knows).

Bought this for my son's bike as it was a Shimano cassette already on it and was badly needing replaced. It came well packaged and a speedy delivery. It is a quality product from Shimano and having the right tools was fitted to the wheel in about 10 mins. I would recommend it.Denis K

I bought a knock off cassette for $15 and had to "search" for my gear. Go up two then down one just to go up one. Put this cassette on, adjusted it slightly and it shifts perfected on both directions. I obviously would not have believed it would make such a difference but it did.

Replaced a old XT 8 speed cassette - seems very similar to that older XT.As they dont make XT in 8 speed now, this is a great substitute as it offers similar weight/performace to the older XT - I suspect trickle down technoolgy, so an old XT now very similar to curent HG50

The other cassette was very beat up, the final nail was after I got stuck in a lime bath on a very wet tow trail. This one shifts a little more crisp than the 11-34 that I had on the bike for 2 years. I don’t live in as hilly of an area so the 32t works fine.
