Having purchased a wind trainer, I’ve started rigorously exercising using my Raleigh SC 30, 21-speed bike. Everything works great, but the stock seat is extremely uncomfortable over a long period of time. I’m a rather svelte fellow, at about 6’ and 185 lbs. I don’t have a lot of natural cushion on my rear and my older seat causes pain around the bones in my butt. It also causes circulation problems when I sit for longer periods.I spent time on Amazon researching loads of men’s bike seats and settled on this saddle for a few reasons. It’s not the athletic seat, which is very streamline, and it’s not a general riding seat, which is much wider in the back, designed for a more upright sitting position. This is a medium seat that slopes you at about a 60% angle. The Raleigh SC 30 is a hybrid bike that is a bit like a mountain bike that can also be used on the road. The Selle Royal Respiro Moderate Xsenium saddle seemed to be a nice selection for my riding style and anatomy. The seat is plenty stylish. It is sleek and black and has nice lines. It’s not overly wide in the back and isn’t tall. It has a modest weight and is much lighter than my old, stock Raleigh seat. Installation was typical. It fits on the universal mount using a common Allen wrench. This seat has a channel running through it that brings air through the center of the saddle, allowing for a natural airflow. I haven’t taken it out to test how effective this is, but it appears to be a nice design in theory.I’ve spent a number of hours on this seat already. It’s much more comfortable than my old seat, although not a perfect solution that eliminates all discomfort. Where I notice the most comfort is in the manly areas that most males have problems with. I have no circulation problems at all with this seat. Where I’m still having discomfort is around the bones of my butt. I’m not sure if there’s a solution to this, unless I just get a couch cushion and install it on the bike, which is not an option. The gel within the seat pads does help some, but without some added cushion, after about 30 minutes, it gets uncomfortable.I’m going to try padded riding pants. I think this might solve this one issue. Aside from this one issue, I really like this seat. For me, it’s a decent size and it looks great. I think I just need to experiment to find out what works best for me during longer rides. If you’re like me and experience problems with discomfort around the inner bones in your butt area, consider the larger riding seat by Selle. You should carefully evaluate each Selle seat and select the one that is best for your riding style and body type.

I started with a Cloud 9 suspension saddle, and that was great for the first few months.Eventually, it was just too big, and I moved to the Cloud 9 sport. It was better, but a little hard. I thought I'd move back, but found the big saddle was just too big, and not grippy. I slipped off and was just not comfy. So I rode the sport saddle for another 4 months, and then tried the athletic saddle. It was much more streamlined, and less padded. It was really not comfortable for endurance rides, nor my level of fitness.About a month ago, which was 8 months into my riding, I picked up this saddle, the Selle Royal Respiro Moderate. The Amazon price was 3/4 of my LBS,but I still worried that it was a bit much.I can tell you my worries were unfounded. It took me one ride to adjust to this seat... or rather a quarter of a ride. I put 60 miles onto this and I felt about the same as 30 miles on my previous saddle. Then, I put 80 miles on it, and I was already adapted... All was good. I've put a total of about 275 miles on this over the last month, and am really happy with it.I'm not sure what I'll want in another 3 months, but this really could have been my first saddle. It's soft in all the right places, with dense memory foam inside. The cover is a soft rubber that is just grippy enough to keep me put when in cycling shorts, but not so grippy that my shorts bunch up. There is a generous channel in the center that reduces perineal pressure. There is a forward facing vent that catches wind and directs it up through the channel and out the back to reduce sweat and heat in the seat. The vents are covered with a screen to keep bugs and debris from flying up there. The rails are strong and have no real flex for me, 260 pounds and 6'6" (119kg and 197cm). A friend who is about 5'7 and about 130 LBS has one and is also happy with it over a few more miles than I have on mine.SUMMARY: This is a great saddle for anyone working their way up to longer rides. This is probably good for a BMI of 35 or less. If you're heavier, and/or wear denim to ride, then the Cloud 9 suspension saddle might be a better start. It has good springs and a wider seat.

Amazingly comfortable saddle! However, yes there is a however, for someone with moderate to large upper thighs there may be a bit of soreness in that area on rides longer than 10 miles. Of course this has everything to do with proper seat height and positioning as well as the rider's angle and posture but just know with all of that in place you may find it a tad on the wide side where the nose meets the body of the seat.I have only had the replacement seat for a few days but I think this Selle Royal Respiro Athletic Cool Xsenium Bicycle Saddle, Black is the one I should have ordered to begin with. Live and learn I guess! As you look at this and other saddles please remember its not about how comfy your tush is going to be while you sit on your bike before and after your ride. Its all about the actual pressure points in your tush and where they contact the seat while you're riding.Selle has saddles in 'Sport', 'Athletic' and 'Moderate' cushion levels. (http://www.selleroyal.com/en/comfort) Know this, the Moderate is the widest and most cushiony then Athletic then Sport is the least plush but still quite possibly all you need once you find your proper riding posture. The 'Sport' series does not actually fall into their 'Comfort' line at all but some models do appear to offer more than adequate cushion for the pressure points in addition to a smaller profile for the more aggressive riders out there.I hope this has helped you make a decision or at least informed you a bit more than I was when I realized I had some sore cheeks!

The rail under my stock bike seat bent and was looking for a replacement. I read the features of this seat and liked the gel feature and was curious about the air vent in the middle.I noticed the price of this seats fluctuates a lot (currently $96.45 CDN so I waited and got mine for about $46 CDN.Out of the box, it felt pretty stiff. After a couple of rides though I do notice it softening up little by little. After the first ride, it felt comfortable and even more so after each ride. I tried to put my hand over the vent while riding to see if it really works but I don't notice much air coming through. Regardless, the open channel relieves pressure in the sensitive areas and didn't make it sweaty more than my old seat.Combined with the padded cycling shorts I have, it doesn't leave me with a sore ass after even a leisurely 3hr ride. The branding "Respiro" on the nose of the seat does rub off after while since your thighs tend to rub on it when wearing baggy shorts. No biggie, I actually like less branding on it anyways. The rails on the bottom are wide enough for my cable lock to thread through when locking it up. Something I couldn't do with my stock seat. All in all a good seat. Great for the price if you time your purchase correctly.

Most bicycles come with seats designed by the Marquis de Sade. This practice is a concession by the bike manufacturers to the 0.1% of riders who are serious racers with a body mass index of less than 5. I say that if a rider thinks it's better to sit on an inverted garden trowel, they can pay extra for the privilege. As for me, I want the place where my body weight meets the bike to have some cushioning, thank you very much. If bike manufacturers want to make inroads with that segment of the riding community that is not overly concerned with grams - probably three-quarters of riders - they could not find a more perfect saddle than the Selle Royal Respiro. For me it has eliminated the crushing discomfort to my peritoneal area, and provided just enough padding for my seat that I no longer have to limit my rides to only 10-12 miles. I can go 20-30 miles or more and feel great at the end. The saddle is very well made, looks good, and has brought back the fun of riding. I'm 62 years old, 6ft, 217 lbs. What do I care about grams when I'm trying to lose 25 lbs? This is a quality saddle for the real world.

Having never seen this in person and only in photos, I figured it would be wider than the stock seat on my bike. When it arrived and I first saw it, I wondered if I ordered the wrong size, as if it came in different sizes. Though once on the bike, it is less shocking.Installed and took it for a test run, so only an initial impression. That said, it is night and day between a really cheap, stock, hard seat and the Selle Respiro. The split down the center will take some getting used to, but it is so much more comfortable to sit on. Now I have little excuse to ride and only my poor fitness to blame for a tiring ride. Two take aways for people considering this, it is much wider than the typical aero/road seats.Even some MTB bikes come with fairly narrow seats. The second is the split/valley down the seat. I think this will prove to be a great asset (no pun intended), though will likely take some time to get used to.For ~$40, it is an easy upgrade to make for a more enjoyable ride.

Bought this in desperation after I took my bike out of garage and got it ready for kid-towing. I got on and my butt immediately felt the pain of my old ISM Adamo saddle. I needed something with padding. It was pretty cheap, relieved my pain to my sit bones, and got me back out with the kids rather than making excuses about the pain. I'm 6-3 240: a Clydesdale.Could not tell if the ventilation system was effective. The nose is wide but smoothly rounded. I adjusted my cleats to wide and that seemed to work better. Shifting forward and aft was easy and not painful. Seemed to receive it in new condition, no indication of being a second-hand product. Appears to have rubberized suspension in rear like a beach cruiser seat, but to a lesser degree. Dampened road vibration well without giving me a loose or bouncy feel.I'm of the opinion it does what it does well. I'll check back later if the long term yields a different opinion.

I bought this saddle a couple months ago along with the Men's ARS Saddle incase I didn't care for it.. The Respiro saddle is comfortable, well made, & I can ride 10-20 miles at a time with no sit bone soreness. The only thing I have to say, which isn't a negative but it's a pain in the butt if you want to put a rack on your bike and it fastens itself underneath the seat... & that it has plastic wrapped around the two bars underneath it, which makes it hard to get the rack on and off of the saddle unlike other bike saddle's that don't have that plastic underneath it. So if you plan on putting a rack on the back of your bike, the kind bolts up underneath the saddle..it might be a little tough unless they offer you a small spacer to go up in between both steel rods underneath your saddle. All in all.. the saddle is comfortable, well made in Italy, and I'm happy with my purchase for sure! It's a keeper!

It was way better on my perineum than my old seat, but after a few miles my sit bones would hurt. Tried various positions and tilts, but couldn't solve the issue. I also bought a fabric scoop radius at the same time, which a skinnier seat with less padding but it felt way better on my sit bones, though slightly worse on my perineum. Ended up going with the fabric, though neither of them are "perfect." I'm a very recreational cyclist (about 10-20 miles a week) so hopefully with more miles things will improve.Shopping for bike seats is quite the process especially for someone newer to cycling like me. Reviews honestly don't help that much since everyone is different in anatomy and riding styles.Just got to try them out and see what works for you. Regardless, this seat was way better than my stock saddle so it's worth a try.

I’d give this saddle a 4.5 if I could. After I installed and tested, I was disappointed with the results. It felt like the stock seat, pressure points in the wrong spots. So I started adjusting the angle and man what a difference. I angled the saddle slightly forward and can fully appreciate the cushioning system. If you’re unhappy with the feel at the level position go ahead and mess around with the angle and adjust to what feels comfortable for you without going extreme. As for the feel, it’s between firm and soft but leans more toward soft. If you were to touch your thumb and pinky on the same hand and press the meaty part of your palm, you’ll get a good idea of the feel.I rode for an hour after the final adjustment and didn’t have any discomfort or after shock.

Saved my Ass! Having just spent $1000 on a new 2021 Giant Roam 2 Disc and extras such as kickstand, water bottle holder and high security lock, my bottom was getting destroyed by the original equipment saddle. I purchased bike shorts with sewn in cushioned gel inserts that had given me minor relief and comfort. I researched and googled comfort/relief saddle reviews and was amazed at price swings on the low to high end offerings. This saddle showed up in a couple reviews and rated highly on Amazon reviews as mid range price option. I went for it. Healing now! Amazing change in comfort and longer daily rides! Cannot believe this saddle isn’t original equipment on better higher end bicycles.Happy riding now.

This bike seat tops all others, and I have ridden a lot. This seat has everything: Rubber shock observers on the post bracket housing, Perfectly balanced foam and gel padding, and just the right width. Don’t be fooled into thinking you need one of those ultra-thin seats like those buttless pros. Real people like you and me need some cushion, some spring. This seat won’t let you down. Bottom line: This is the best bike seat I have ridden in over 20 years of riding. No BS. You won’t regret buying this seat. Yes, it’s a little more expensive than others, but you get so much more with this seat. I will only buy/ride this seat for all of my current and future bike builds. Well done, Selle Royal.Bravo!

This is the forth seat I have bought for my one bike. I put it on my commutator bike. I do like 24 to 30 miles a ride about twice a week. The seat that came with the bike was just too wide in the back part, and I tried a second seat like it and it was too wide in the back. This is not as wide but not a thin as some racer bike seats. It has a nice venting in it. They put a mesh in the vent to keep any bees from getting suck in. I have used it once on a 25 mile ride and my but was NOT trashed when I got home.. I did put a seat shock post on my bike. If you have a lot of trouble with your seat you may all so look into a seat shock, they do help.

This is my second Selle Royal seat, they are great for anatomical gender comfort. Go to the manufacture website, read about proper fit and measurement, then watch the video on proper install. Selecting the proper seat and proper install will make a major difference for riding comfort. Once properly installed you can make minor adjustment tilting the seat forward or aft to change weight distribution. Note the riding position for making the proper seat selection, for example 60 degrees, sliding and tilting the seat forward or aft to approximate the position will be a good starting point.

This saddle is thicker than my old saddle so I had to adjust my seat tube accordingly. However the saddle is very comfortable and it absorbs shock from the terrain very well.Edit 3/25/2016After using this for a while I've found that a I prefer a stiffer saddle. The thick gel padding and elastomer shock absorbers in the rear of the saddle put too much movement in it for my tastes. I actually prefer my stock Specialized body geometry Targus saddle over this Selle Royal model. I'll likely end up buying a higher end saddle from Specialized.
