I've tried a few juicers over the years and this beast, which some might find rather ugly and others be impressed by its engineering, has quite a few features that I like and some that I'm not too keen on.First of all it is generally well made. It fits firmly together in an obvious way (no need to read the instructions) and inspires real confidence as the masticating screw turns and chews up your fruit and veg. Many people will find the whole process of juicing this way very satisfactory - and the children or grandchildren will enjoy watching and/or helping. If harder veg looks like it is overloading the screw you can put it into reverse so nothing gets impacted. The juice collects underneath and the impressively dry pulp comes out the end. When you have drunk the juice everything pulls obviously apart for cleaning and all bits can go in the dishwasher - though I recommend a small brush for the grater bit and a bottle brush to reach inside the screw tube. Once clean and dry (and that last bit is none too easy because you can't get past the safety latch at the top of the feeding tube) it all fits very logically back together. Now for the few niggles. With such a well made machine I don't know why Philips don't provide better quality accessories. The Juice collector is very plasticy and the pulp collector only a little better inn being made out of a more rubbery feeling material. The latch on the feeding tube will doubtless be the first thing to break as it seems rather flimsy. Also the pusher is a bit pathetic - it really needs to be wider to push easily and forcefully down the tube. Capacity wise I'd say this machine was better for a couple or a small family and suggest a similarly priced larger centrifugal device Philips HR1875/21 Avance Collection Quick Clean Juicer, 2.5 L, 1000 W - Brushed Stainless Steel for a larger family. The 'X-large Feed Tube' wouldn't take my large Granny Smiths or my Oranges but I don't really mind cutting them into quarters. Anyway, I don't recommend juicing oranges whole because the peel does give an obvious bitter taste to the juice. All that said I really do like this juicer. It is no hassle to get going even to do some fresh orange juice just for one - and cleaning up is the quickest and easiest I've experienced. That suggests this juicer will go on being used rather than being relegated to the bottom cupboard or the garage.

Bought the machine to support our SIRT diet, and after eight days of frequent use, juicing curly kale, celery, rocket, spinach, apples and ginger, feel we have made a very good choice. The machine fully deserves five stars for juicing efficiency, ease of cleaning and silent operation, but falls down badly on its claim of "XL wide feeding tube" as an aid to ease of operation. The feeding tube is indeed wide but the poorly designed and positioned "safety flap" negates much of the benefit. The tube cap has a smaller central hole, sized to control the position & depth of insertion of the robust "pusher" (which we quickly abandoned in favour of a celery stick, which is far more efficient and controllable and not a problem if the machine grabs it!). As the tube cap is lifted,a rather flimsy clear plastic "paddle" rises across the feeding tube, preventing all but the slenderest of stalk passing down the tube. This leaves a small space at the top of the tube, about 3 cm deep, where the material to be juiced must sit until the lid is closed and the material is released to fall down the tube. This annoyance is further compounded by the mechanism of the paddle preventing the lid being opened fully, so making loading of the material a fiddly and messy business. Juicing 160 gm of curly kale is a long, long job due to the tiny loading space available, and reluctance to compress too much material in, for fear of snapping off the flimsy paddle. Closing the cap drops the paddle to the side of the feeding tube, but the springy kale sits in the top of the tube and has to be pushed down with a pusher clear of the paddle to allow the lid to be lifted. This was a problem for all the leafy ingredients. To speed up the process, we find ourselves feeding material through the smaller hole in the closed lid, completely losing the advantage of the large tube diameter, but enabling us to pack the loose material down the tube so that it feeds into the crusher. Unnecessarily fiddly and a disappointment for an otherwise excellent machine.

I am amazed at how much juice this machine can squeeze out of fruit and veg. 3 large oranges will produce nearly a pint of fresh juice. A heads up though; I tend to peel oranges before I pop them in this juicer. If not, the juice tends to have a very strong ‘peel’ taste. Everything else I’ve tried; such as carrots, a variety of apples, blueberries and cucumber have tasted fine, but I do plan to use some lemons soon and will definitely remove the peel first. 4½ starsWhat I do like:• The amount of juice produced is impressive.• Washable parts can be quickly removed and lock easily back into place.• Washable parts are dishwasher safe.• The juice collector has handy ‘lips’ at the corners to enable a smooth, splatter free pour into a jug or glass.• There is a handy ‘reverse button’ which helps collect every piece of fruit or veg.• There is a valve so you can close the spout.• There is a colourful recipe book that highlights the health benefits of each recipe. What I don’t like:• This machine is a little noisy.• Be careful about the size of the whole fruit you put in. An apple may easily slot in the top, but you may have to give it a big shove with the ‘pusher’ so it can be thoroughly squished by the ‘juicing screw’ and filtered through the ‘squeezing chamber’.• This machine isn’t small.• The juicing process is so intense that any pungent skins will saturate the flavour of the juice. You may want to peel certain fruits or vegetables first.• The ‘pulp container’ isn’t an integral part of the design. It’s a small standalone plastic box that sits beneath the ‘pulp outlet’. I would have preferred if it come somehow have slotted into place.• You can’t put soft fruits such as bananas or strawberries in this machine.Approx. dimensions:Overall size H 38cm W 13.5cm D 34.5cmDiameter of feeding tube 8cmDiameter of feeding tube lid 4.8cm

This item is absolutely amazing.. many a healthy juice can be made at the touch of a button and in less than a minute unless you’re doing a huge concoction of stuff..The machine itself is super easy to assemble and even easier to use..Find the fruit or veg that you would like to use and cut it into segments... pop it into the masticator and press the ‘on’ button... Ypur fruit or veg will be mashed and grated and the waste will be pushed out of the tube into a black container whilst the nourishing healthy juice will be held in the main chamber. To release the juice you just need to open the valve at the bottom and have your cup waiting... it really is as simple as that ..if you find the fruit or veg needs a bit of a helping hand you can push it down gently with the utensil provided... Of there appears to be any issue with for instance a really hard fruit or vegetable and it’s notastoxatong as quick as it should there is a backward button that will allow the fruit to be pushed back and then start again... we only had this issue once and that was with melon..This item comes with a recipe book but tbh we lost made juices from fruit that we enjoyed... it was so lovely seeing my children drink healthy fresh juice that had no additives etc.. my 4 year old took such an interest in making herself a juice she tried fruit she would normally never dare too!! Yes it’s that simple a child can use it!! To clean it is as simple as putting it together.. you simply remove the same parts and wash through.. now with some items I have or have had I’ve beem put off using them because cleaning them is monotonous and difficult... honestly this machine is so easy to wash [This review was collected as part of a promotion.]

Overall this juicer exceeded my expectations, though I got it at a discount from Warehouse Deals. It's not whisper quiet but it's definitely not offensively loud. It's quieter than my last juicer (The rubber seal at the pulp bin end is noisy when dry/brand new but that stops when it gets wet.)It has a big chute and you can drop whole lemons/limes/medium apples in there without cutting, and with a slight push to get started it chews them up perfectly without further pushing. It extracts pretty well and the pulp is moist but not wet. There are some nice touches. The juice bin has pouring spouts on the end so you can pour easily direct from the container without spilling. The auger is quite long and is designed to chew the food against metal fins not against a porous surface, so there is only a small piece of sieve to clean. Overall very easy to clean. The only oddity is that the chute, while large, has a hinged cover with a smaller opening and it is not quite large enough to fit a whole cucumber through, and if you open it (As you would for a lemon/apple) then there is a tongue in there that prevents you from inserting a long item like a cucumber, so even though lemons/limes and small apples/oranges are really convenient, ironically you may have to quarter a cucumber lengthwise. The pusher is significantly smaller than the chute, so if you get cucumber pieces or berries stuck to the sides of the chute during juicing, there may be nothing you can do to unstick them, as the pusher won't scrape the sides of the chute.Still though, it's a powerful juicer that's easy to clean so I'm giving it a 4. If I had paid the full price of €200 I might only be 3 star impressed.

Being my first juicer i was not sure what to expect at all.... unpacking and setting up was a breeze, parts effortlessly fit together and i was up and running within 10 minutes. The juicer is of a good weight and size and feels sturdy and built to last.I turned to the Philips Healthy drinks recipe app for my first juice idea and followed along, i was amazed at how easily the juicer tackled everything even with the XL tube it would happily juice whole fruits and veg...Oranges (peeled), Apples, Carrots, Celery and even curly kale! My first juice was amazing and so tasty - there is certainly something satisfying about making your own juice and knowing there is no extra rubbish being added to it.Idid not find this machine to be too noisy and was simple to operate: There are only three buttons to master: two on the top - a power button and a reverse motion button and a release button on the front to remove everything you need to clean. The parts are easily removed from the base and a quick rinse under a warm tap and wipe with a cloth was all that was needed to clean the parts (They can even go in the dishwasher!).My only criticism would be the size of the waste collector, i wish this was a little bit bigger so that i didn't have to empty it multiple times when creating a 1 litre juice - but this could be down to the mixture of what fruit and veg i am using.Overall this is a great juicer and i am very pleased with it. I am now actively creating multiple juices every week to help increase my intake of Vitamins & Minerals. [This review was collected as part of a promotion.]

This Philips HR1889/71 Viva Masticating Slow Juicer sets a new level of juicer performance - I say this having used a few before as I'm a juice fan. The out of the box experience has been really thought through and it's easy to get up and running plus there's a recipe booklet and two year warranty. The machine looks and feels well made and, despite its futuristic appearance, it harmonises with my traditional Shaker kitchen surprisingly well plus has generated quite a few admiring comments from friends. This is an easy to use juicer and what I particularly like is the large feeding tube which can easily accommodate largish apples and oranges as well as smaller fruit and vegetables. The operation is relatively quiet and although the process is a bit slower than some juicers I've used it's very thorough and seems to produce a better yield of juice - more in terms of quantity plus the quality seems better too, although nothing unwanted gets into the output.I found firmer fruit and vegetables work better but it's still okay with soft fruit and can cope with a mixture of the two. Apple and blackberry is true nectar from this machine and the 1L output container means you can make enough to go round for the household. One thing which has put me off juicers on the past has been the amount of clean up time - that's not the case here, it's really quick and easy which, in turn, makes you more likely to use the juicer in the first place. In summary, this a really well designed and made juicer that you'll actually want use every day - there's a lot to like about it. Recommended.

As a family of four I felt we needed to increase our fruit and vegetable intake and this has been a fantastic way to do it. This juicer was really easy to put together and produces some great tasting juices, I've loved experimenting with different flavours. Although it does take whole fruit, I find it easier to chop apples etc into quarters as I did once get a small, whole apple a bit wedged in the tube which was quite tricky to get back out! It has no problem with juicing whole carrots and big chunks of pineapple etc. The size of the juicer is perfect, fits nicely in the kitchen without being in the way. It is really quiet which I hadn't expected and it's really fast too.We have used this most mornings which is exactly what I had hoped. As a 'non dishwasher' household I was concerned that it'd take ages and be hard to clean but it takes no time at all. This is a massive plus as it's definitely increased our use of it. I would advise cleaning immediately after use as if left for the fruit to dry onto it I imagine it would be a pain to get clean. The only problem I have found is the postition on the on/off switch. Whilst feeding juicy fruits like pineapple into the tube I've found it can drip onto the switch which can make it a bit sticky. I also found the water from where I'd rinsed kale before juicing dripped too so I tend to now lay a tea towel over the button to be safe. It would be better positioned on the side to avoid this. Overall I am really pleased with this juicer and would definitely recommend it. [This review was collected as part of a promotion.]

This is a well designed and effective machine (and a considerable improvement on our previous, much larger, juicer)To begin with it is a modern-looking and attractively designed appliance that has a pleasingly small worktop footprint for a juicer. Once out of the box it is very simple to assemble (requiring little or no reference to the supplied instructions) and is intuitive and simple to use.It has a very effective mechanism and made short work of all the fruit and veg we tried it with (and because this is a 'masticating' juicer you don;t have to prepare the fruit/veg beforehand i.e. remove stalks, pips, skin etc: just bung the whole lot in!). . What/s more the machine is also significantly quieter than our other juicer. It collects the 'mulch' effectively and produces a nicely smooth juice (and the unit also comes with a useful recipe book), Disassembly to clean is also surprisingly easy, with the three main components separating easily and - once rinsed - easily snapped back into place (and I estimate you could remove the juicing housing/mechanism, rinse and replace in no more than a minute: that's impressive I think). The components and engineering also seem to be of a reassuringly good standard too.In short this is a compact, well-made, highly effective and practical juicer that is easy to clean (and reasonably priced too). Also coming with what I have found to be Philips impressive customer care/after sales support: I can't fault it.Highly recommended.

As a person who likes to eat and drink fresh, and know exactly what ingredients I'm having, this juicer is ideal. It's so easy to use and put together. The parts all come apart, making it easy to clean. The first juice I tried was apples, which didn't go quite as easily as the demo video! My apples were too large so I had to cut them, and upon juicing the apple wasn't juicing, so I had to turn it off and un jam it.It's a brilliant idea to get fruit and vegetables into your diet, for adults and kids.Kids especially loved it as they got to make their own drinks and it was fun doing it.I downloaded the Philips juice app, which is really good, and has some great recipes for detox, morning boost to hangover cures!I would definitely recommend this product, and it's something I would use regularly. My only quibble is the machine is a bit heavy, and the juice tank can be awkward to get out when it's full. There is a tank for the juice and one for the pulp, and it really does separate everything, it's amazing how much juice you can get out of one orange!Sometimes when juicing alot of oranges, the pulp did bulk up inside, so I'd have to turn it off and take it apart to unblock it. Although it's very basic and easy to use the instructions could have been made simpler and clearer, a separate little booklet would be better, than the massive piece of paper. I absolutely love this product. I am often in a rush in the mornings but still want to have a healthy and well balanced breakfast; and this is where this juicer comes in!The first thing about this product is that it was extremely straight forward to set up; and it even came with a little recipe book to get you started. It is a rather large product; but it makes up for this by how quiet it is! I live in a shared house, so having a quiet machine to use in the mornings was so important to me. You simply pop the fruit in, press the on button and let it work its magic. It will automatically juice itself so that you can be getting on with other jobs around the kitchen! There is a 'reverse'juicing option; so if any pieces of fruit or veg get stuck then it will move them along. It also comes with a handy pot in which all the dry material which cannot be juiced will empty into. The XL feeding tube is of a great advantage as there is no need to cut up or prepare your fruit before hand; it could fit large apples and oranges straight in!The juicer also comes apart with a bit of elbow grease :-) It is therefore extremely easy to clean all components after use. I would highly recommend this juicer to anyone looking for a kick start to their healthy lifestyle. [This review was collected as part of a promotion.]

I have two children and a husband l, all of which are fussy with fruit and veg. I got this juicer as a way to get more fruit and veg into them all with minimal fuss and less mess/faffing around. The product is fairly large, heavy and cumbersome, but the over all design means it is fairly narrow, and can be kept out or put in a cupboard (even in our tiny kitchen). The instructions are fairly easy to follow, and are also printed on the box flap as well as a large fold out page. It's very easy to assemble and disassemble to clean/store, I would recommend buying a babies bottle brush (v.cheap) just to make it easier to get into tho tube and little grater part. The tube is large enough to feed a medium sized apple into without difficulty, ideal for apple juice first thing in the morning! There was a small recipe book as well as information on a free app, which is great for tips and ideas tailored to your product specs. We managed to extract more juice than expected, with a quite smooth texture (use of a fine sieve makes it completely smooth), the container to catch the juice is large and which can be quite deceiving as to how much juice has been extracted. We use this daily, and will continue to do so, a great, easy, fast way to 5 a day. [This review was collected as part of a promotion.]

This is the first masticating juicer that I have tried and it has not convinced me to convert. The basic premise of a slow juicer is that it produces better longer lasting juice. I do not believe that it produces better juice. Slow Juice may be (but not always) oxygenated less, which helps it keep for longer. For me that isn't much of an issue as the whole point of having a juicer is that it enables me to have the freshest fresh juice possible. You mostly get less froth by slow juicing, which some may prefer. The Philps Viva does live up to its easy to clean claim. Also the Elongated shape means that it does not completely hog my worktop. The extra large feed tube is supposed to save time ,but this is not always the case. A succession of apples can cause a jam.The most immediate deciding factor for me is the cocophony of noises that using the Viva produces. Some people may enjoy these, but I find them stressful. I should point out that it is the type and unpredictability of the noise that upsets me, not the volume of the noise. The volume of the noise is acceptable. The appearance of the machine is also a negative. For those who do a lot of advance catering this may be a good choice, but it is not going to suit everyone.

We have used our phillips machine for over a year now several times a week for Apple's, pineapple, carrot , orange, lemon, grapefruit, ginger and watermelon.Honestly it has performed flawlessly, is easy to use , quiet, easy and quick to clean and produces a great result.I have read other reviews on here and watched YouTube videos so it comes as somewhat as a surprise to hear of other people's issues. My only comment is this machine like most others of a similar type is a domestic machine so cut the items up....ie cut an average carrot lengthways into quarters and let the machine do it's job. One video I watched and the reviewer was forcing large whole carrots and apples into the macine andramming it down with the plunger....We hardly use the plunger and so far we have had no motor problems. This appears to be a well made robust mac hine but like I have commented this is a domestic machine and like all relatively cost effective domestic machine's they do not tolerate abuse.I am not commenting in any way on other people's reviews and maybe I have just been lucky but I have to give this machine, used over a long period of time in a sensible manner an unreserved positive review.

This juicer may not give the highest yield amongst the plethora of masticating juicers available on the market but it does rank as probably the simplest to use and clean. We have used several brands & models of high-speed shredding juicers as well as several slower masticating juicers. With all of the others, they might be quick, easy or give a great yield but the thing they all have in common is the mammoth task of dismantling and cleaning involved with some taking 20 minutes or more to give a thorough clean. With our Philips HR1889, a full and thorough clean is done in under five minutes so it encourages you to juice more often. If you want to squeeeze a tiny bit more juice out of your produce, simply put the pulp back in for another go. Apples and ginger come out pretty dry as do leafy vegetables and the only one we have noticed might benefit from a second pass through the juicer is cucumber, but we haven't bothered because it's not too bad with one pass. I would definitely recommend this for anyone pushed for time as it's by far the easiest and most time-efficient model we have come across so far.
