I've owned a lot of headlamps over the years, ranging from cheap Craftsman ones (horrible!) to an expensive Petzl Tikka RXP with multiple buttons, auto-adjusting brightness, and USB programmability (a pointless gimmick). This 300-lumen Tactikka is the best all around. It's lightweight. Its one-button control is simple and intuitive. Battery life is good.White-light illumination is very good, with no hotspots. (Many headlamps and flashlights have a bright spot in the middle of their beam, which moves around as you aim the light. I find this very distracting, especially in a headlamp.) There are three brightness levels, and I find the middle level plenty bright enough.

With over 40 years experience in the outdoors Including 10 years with a search and rescue team a good light is important. There are a lot of fancy torches on the market and I have a few through birthdays and Christmas presents. The Petzl Tacktikka head torch 300 lumens is a fairly simple offering. Press the top button One and you get the lower white setting, once more medium white, third time high white 300L, again red, Fifth and final mode red, then press again for off. Settings on white are all wide beam with very little penetration into the dark. Red setting ok for around camp to save your night vision. Lastly flashing red but not SOS. The head band is broad but not very long and no quick release.

My last one lasted 8 years before having issues. This one feels better than the last. Hope this lasts another 8+ years. Love the fact I can do either rechargeable battery (sold separately, which is a downside) and alkaline batteries. It would be nice if it came with a rechargeable battery, since I hate using alkaline batteries all the time. But for those who are on the trail, or preppers, having the option to use alkaline batteries is a great option. So many of the new ones are rechargeable only. Which means in the event the power is out, or you are restricted on how long you can charge something, this option makes it worthy of buying.

This is a quality product. It is lightweight, easily adjustable, very bright on the highest setting (3 levels of brightness), and well constructed. I go in unto many dark and confined spaces for work. Holding a flashlight in hand or mouth is very annoying and can be dangerous. With this headlamp, my time in these dark, tight spaces is much more enjoyable. I almost look forward to going in unto these dark places so that I can use this product. Anything that can add even a touch of joy to life is worth its weight in silver.

All in all, it's a good lamp. Brightness is excellent, overall build quality feels solid. Not loaded down with too many functions (light modes). What I don't like about it, and this is a legit concern, is that there's no o-ring/gasket on the battery compartment. I don't know if this will lead to long term issues with water penetration. With fall upon us and nothing but rain to look forward to, I will update either way in the spring to let you know how it held up.

Took it camping this weekend and it worked like a charm. I mostly used the red light, and only used the white light on its lowest setting so as not to blind those I was with; this thing gets very bright! I was worried it wouldn't be powerful enough, but it's probably more than I'll ever need.Turning the light on and off, and changing between modes is a breeze, and it is comfortable on the head for extended lengths of time. The construction is also quality.

Purchased this headlamp for the 3rd time!First was as a gift, second was for myself third was to replace mine. (stolen) I like this lamp because of its light weight. I have brighter beams, but they are heavy and bulky. And cheaper lamps the bands on those are weak and they move around too much. This is a great lamp at a decent price. Good build quality and materials and I like the fact it comes with name brand batteries.

Much better than more expensive previous Petzl model that I had. They have maybe listened to user feedback. White light is instant on and off - previously you had to press button for 2 secs - this makes it much more convenient (when hopping in and out of tractor cabs for example). Pressing button after a few secs use switches it off rather than scrolling through brightness settings.

My previous Petzl looked like a miners helmet so this is a great improvement, lighter in weight and lighter in lumens. Excellent light options, the bright option is really bright and useful if you breakdown at night. Ok the battery won't last as long on this option but easy to carry spares. The Red night option is very handy for Astronomy purposes or night navigation.

Bought recently for hunting and for my job as a professional theatre rigger. I used this weekend for the first time during hunting season. It was raining hard at night and I wear glasses and other cheap headlamps always create a glare on my glasses, I did not have that issue this time!. So much power and clean light.

Great product! I've owned a few Petzl Tactikka headlamps in the past and for what I use them for they are perfect. I'm an aircraft mechanic and I use it daily for many hours. The light output is sufficient for my needs, but most importantly it is durable, waterproof and very lightweight.

I like it. It is very light, it adapts very well to the skull. The beam of light has plenty of power to walk or run in the dark. Bring three alkaline batteries. It does not come equipped with a rechargeable battery. It can be bought separately although it is expensive.

You pay a little more for a Petzel but I have never been disappointed by them. bright enough to get down the trail in the dark and indispensable around the camp at night. Headlamps are the best keeps your hands free and points where you look. A great lite weight lite.

On off button is a little complicated to get all the features, but seems like it will be figured out with use.Haven't used it long enough to tell about battery life.Seems bright enough,Wanted one with the red light feature. It has a bit of a path to get to.

Very nice bit of kit. This head torch is perfect for hunting as it has the 3 white lite settings and the red light for when I'm needing to keep a low profile. I would highly recommend this head torch for any hunter. Also has 300 lumans. bonus.
