I own an emergency response training company, and we recently started doing rope rescue training with the Petzl ID. Each and every person who has touched it- instructors and students alike- has said that they love it. By far, it is much easier and safer to use than a rappel rack or a rescue-8 descender. When the descending person gets in trouble of ANY kind, the Petzl has their back and won't let them fall, not even an inch. When teaching newbies how to use rescue systems and how to descend, this kind of security is invaluable. We also enjoyed how versatile this tool is- it can also be used as a belaying device as well as in 3-to-1 mechanical advantage systems. We got the very best deal we could find here on Amazon,so be sure to check prices here before you buy from a rescue outfitter.

I love the Petzl ID as a descent device, it allows you to utilized the RAD system if you are on rope moving up and down. It is well built, and virtually impossible to panic and go into an uncontrolled descent with it. Petzl is always high quality. Although I use my micro-rack the most for rapples, this is my #2.

If you do industrial rescue you know how handy this is already. Our team has three. Throw a gibbs, carabiner, and a pulley in the system and you have a 3:1 z-rig in about 20 seconds. Perfect for quick access and retrieval. just remember you have to practice with this frequently to be proficient.

Has so much safety built in that it is almost impossible to lower someone too fast. Using it to replace an older grigri on ropes challenge course.
