My use is for hiking the Scottish mountains in the winter by the easiest routes (which can still be fatal) rather than "technical" climbing. Thus I want something reliable to lean-on during ascent walks and of course something to "arrest" a slide. I'm not planning on swinging it much (perhaps a few "last little bits") hence I chose the straight-shaft Glacier model rather than the slightly curved Summit or Evo which are more obvious candidates for those going up steeper, unpathed routes.It feels 100% solid and reliable, the 68cm feel reassuringly-sized for my 6-foot frame and fits the"hand to ankle" sizing,

It's an axe, it's made by Petzl, it's light and has a leash with it for a good price. I've yet to use it for it's intended purpose although it has travelled 4,000 miles in case it was needed and it didn't annoy me. Do make sure the tips are covered though... I made a nice sleeve for both end with card but next time will cover the adze as well.

The Petzl Glacier is a very fine piolet. Not only because of the weight but also because of the good mandrel and the wrist loop. We mainly use it when we go snow racket hiking on more technical terrain and soon also for simple mountaineering.

In general I have a very good opinion about this ice ax, it is comfortable and very very light, it also has the dragonera included. For a short winter crossing it is a very useful tool, both for its weight and for the benefits it offers.

Excellent Piolet of march, to very good price, it is super light in truth it seems that you do not take anything and offers very good benefits so much in snow as in hard ice, recommended

Very light and robust! First outing where I had to use it for several hours uphill and downhill on steep slopes, does its job of hiking ice ax + self-arrest very well

Good axe for price. Lightweight and strong enough. If you are a serious winter adventurer, you may want a better quality axe, but for weekend warriors its fine.

Because it is the first Pickle, it can not be compared, but it is very light, but it has a sense of security since it sticks firmly on the snow surface.
