Having now used this for many, many runs - on road, and off road - I cansay without reservation this is an excellent product. Holds charge well, andon the highest setting good enough for my woodland routes. Well worthspending a bit more for the extra oomph. No issues with use / quality / holding charge etc.I might be tempted to buy another - the thought has cross my mind that I couldput 2 on one head band - and that would throw up the possibility of using 1 onthe red setting (for road runs) pointing backwards ... And maybe, 2 facing moreor less forward* - and switching from one to the other, when the battery eventually fadeson 1 - switch to the other - and tug the headband around a wee bit to 're direct'the beam.* the length of one unit + another would probably limit the scope to have 2facing fully forward, but it's an idea I might play around with - and the potential forswitching between 1 and another, as battery power drains, is certainly viable.- which would open up my moorland runs to around 4 hours - a welcome trainingaddition in winter when the light fades early.Overall - highly recommended. Hope they come down in price, eventuallywhich would be the icing on the cake.==================================================================Original comments -Typical PETZL quality - nicely put together, and evidently well thought out.The body of the torch itself seems slightly less chunky than my old 20 quid Petzl headtorch - but I cannot say at this stage whether it is any less robust. {the plastic of the 'shell' seems slightly thinner}One thing I did notice quickly - the plastic packaging is quite strong, and took quite a lot of effort toget into - which is momentarily frustrating; but also good to see in the sense that it keeps yourpurchase safe in transit.Charged battery soon after it arrived, and have only briefly used it - just to assess the brightness very crudely -it does seem *very* bright - considerably brighter than my older, more basic version.Background/Context:I purchased for running / trail running - as at this time of year running in the dark cannot always be avoided, and some of my trail routes have no artificial light. <-- tried with my existing Petzl, and also a cheapo unbranded reasonably bright HT - fairly bright, but being cheap, quickly loses its ooomph. Pondered on getting something from the likes of Energiser (fine for some uses no doubt) but plumbed for getting something I knew would be good, and reliable, - predicting I'd end up buying Petzl if I went down the 'half measure' path.

I had to replace an old Petzl Tikkina, and sticking with the tried and tested shape of the Petzl's seemed like a good option. The rechargeable Actik Core battery on this one was what sold it to me. It plugs in with a mini USB connector, and charges up pretty quickly.I'm impressed so far with the brightness - it's definitely brighter (on the highest setting) than the old one, and is great for night time runs. On the lowest setting it doesn't really light much up, but keeps you visible - so it's perfect to show your presence to other people (cars and pedestrians) on pavement runs. On the next level, it is perfect for lighting up where you're going on darker streets and roads, and keeps you visible too.The brightest setting is ideal for night time trail runs where you need to see the presence of obstacles on the ground, such as roots and holes, so I'd definitely recommend this for that reason alone.I've used it for a dozen or so nighttime runs so far (of about an hour or so each) and have only charged it once (although it's close to needed it again I think). I've primarily used it on the brightest setting each time as most of my runs have been in the pitch black on trails, so I've needed to be sure of my footing.Great build quality as usual from Petzl too.

I do like an off-road night-time run and have a couple of headlights. However they are big powerful lights with a powepack on the rear of the headband and an over the top strap. Comfortable and stable but for some occasions just too bulky, hence the Petzl. Single strap and battery built into the head is lighter, just as stable and at 400lumen plenty bright for the trail running I mostly do. In fact the medium setting is the most useful with a nice mid distance spread of light that also gives great battery run times. The lowest setting is really too low to run with ut ideal for close up use eg reading or in small spaces. The recharging is easy enough and I like the option to use disposable batteries. Many years ago I started with Energiser head lamps and would rate the highly but the quality of the Petzl light is much better, fewer artefacts or dim spots and given its relatively small form factor I pick this light unless going onto open terrain in the dark when the higher power and battery life of my bigger headlamps is safer. Trail running though and the Petzl is king. I did add a small red dot light (dead cheap from Decathlon) to the back of the strap for safety. Excellent light.

A great head torch, bought to replace an old Myolite 3 that the band had perished on. LED lamps have improved so much that it made more sense to replace the whole lamp.I can’t imagine any scenario when this lamp wouldn’t be bright enough. I’ve just used it for a 24 hour fishing session in October (so dark early) and with mixed-mode usage and came nowhere near depleting the battery. It’s also very lightweight so you forget it’s there. In my opinion the Core rechargeable battery is a must, life’s too short for disposable batteries or charging by means other than USB. That said, this will happily run on 3 AAA batteries, nice if you get caught short.Different modes and red light options are useful. If I’m being really picky I’d like to see a couple of improvements.I’d really like it if the lamp ‘remembered’ what brightness mode (it does retain red or white mode) you were using when toggling on and off. The headband is not the soft-feel band I’m used to from Petzl. It’s functional, but it’s the shinier, slightly more rigid type. With that in mind, I’d like a wider range of adjustment.

Comfortable and lightweight and the rechargeable battery lasts well. This head torch has been a lifesaver while on deliveries in the dark. The head strap is comfortable and the three brightness settings are good. It is easy to set the angle of the torch by tilting it and the ratchet style tilt mechanism holds steady. The plastics are lightweight and not the greatest quality but after 2 months of use 4 nights a week it does seem to be holding up.However there are a couple of points to note. Each time the torch is used you have to cycle through the brightness settings as it does not go back to the last setting after being switch off. The on/off button can be hard to find and is not always easy to press.I'd have preferred a button that sticks up rather than the flush mounted on under a silicon cover as it would be more intuitive to find.Other than those minor points that I feel I can live with it's a decent and affordable head torch.

After my last 2 Silva Trail Runner Headtorches failed, I decided to get the Actik Core headlamp after reading reviews and getting recommendations from my friends. The brightness is fantastic for late night runs out on the trails and forests. There are 3 different brightness options and also the choice to turn on a red light. You can adjust the angle of the beam and you'll find it really does light up the path in front of you.Comfort wise, it fits around your head perfectly fine. It's easy to adjust the size of it too.Battery life is very impressive too, lasting much longer than my previous headtorches. You've got the option of using a rechargeable battery (included)as well as normal batteries.Overall this is highly recommended for anyone looking for a quality headtorch without the need to break the bank.

This is my second headtorch, the first was a cheaper make which was heavy and not very comfy. I wish that I had purchased this one the first time around – its very compact, comfortable to wear and easy to charge. The beam that this gives off is excellent – its like car headlights on the higher power setting and the lower power settings are great for a multitude of tasks. I’ve used this for cycling, walking, DIY or just simple tasks like putting the bins out as being a head torch it frees up your hands. At this price point I don’t think there’s anything better on the market – highly recommended.

My main use for this head torch is running, I took on a challenge to run every day in December which in the UK means running after work in the dark for me, I was fed up with the head torch I had with was like running in a tunnel of light, the Petzl actik throws a great spread of light, for me forget the lumens, the pattern is more important, on its mid setting I get plenty of light for pavement running and when on high power I would happily tackle technical trails, at this price point I haven’t seen anything better than the actik core. Very happy with my purchase, would recommend.

Had an old cheap on before this but as i found i was using it more and more i thought i would get a better one, talk about night and day (excuse the pun) but this lights up a good 20+ meters and a very broad beam, brilliant. Make sure you choose the right one, there are a few different models with variations of same name but some have just the aaa battery use and this one comes with the rechargeable battery, you can buy the rechargeable battery extra but works out more money and you can still use the aaa if it runs out.

Great device, I use it to work, that's why the 3 different intensities come in handy, it has a very subdued light and the most powerful light a lot outdoors. It allows, if you carry the mobile charger and usb cable on top, to charge the battery both in the laptop PC, plug or cigarette lighter of the car, also this battery weighs 10 grams less than the 3 AAA batteries, they have improved the material of the tape for the head that we hope the rubber does not run out with use, it is also reflective.

Love this light! The different settings are great. Light is extremely bright and the rechargeable battery is so much better than having to buy a ton of batteries to keep shoving in it. The only downside was the charging cable that came with mine was faulty. It has to pressed against a in a certain direction to charge, luckily my wireless beats headphones use the same charging cord. So disaster averted, and It may just be a fluke and I happened to get a bad one. Other than that 5 stars

Works well and the light is - brilliant. But it is clunky to use, it doesn’t remember the last setting so you constantly have to cycle through the low and medium to get to the brightest setting.I have had it for a while now, but I still struggle to master the switching to the red light! The build quality is difficult to assess as it seems very lightly built - all I can really say is that it doesn’t inspire confidence!I think it is expensive for what it is!

The headlamp sits well and doesn't bother you. It is nice and light without the battery. With the rechargeable battery it is powerful and it is also more environmentally friendly than buying new batteries. Unfortunately, the on / off button is not so successful. Or. Switching to night light etc. proves difficult. But it can still be coped with. Therefore only 4 stars

The lamp fully met my expectations. The runtime in standard mode and in power mode as well as the charging time of the battery are as stated or even a little better. The illumination is great because it is not as conical as the Black Diamond. I knew that the case wasn't particularly valuable and probably wasn't waterproof either. It wasn't that important to me.

A smart device, I like not having to toggle through all the brightness settings to turn it off. After a couple minutes the next setting is off, no matter the brightness level. The various brightness settings are perfect for different jobs or light conditions. The fit is very good, and it's easy to transport. Recharge is easy and fast.
