I bought this as I run mostly at night on urban roads, and some areas have very poor lighting e.g. alleyways or some back roads, when running through poorly lit areas you have to either slow right down or take a leap of faith and hope there is nothing to trip you upI really wanted a rechargeable light so this is the first plus for me, the fact it can take AAA batteries as well is a big plus as I don't have to fork out £25 for another petzl core battery for emergencies (fyi when the battery "runs out" it switches to reserve mode for 3 hrs so you don't get completely plunged into darkness)It's comfortable to wear either on your head or over a hat. I found it very easy and intuitive to use while running. There is only one button -1st,2nd and 3rd click are dimmest to brightest of white light, with the 4th switching it off. 1 long press switches to red, then another press switches to flashing. In use this is really easy and good for flicking it on and off as you run through darker sectionsCan't vouch for longevity yet but it's guaranteed for 5yrs (battery for 1yr)Light on brightest setting seems like it would be bright enough for any purpose , setting 2 is bright enough for urban runningFeel like I made exactly the right choice and got the right tool for the job

To be fair, I've only had this product for 6 hours. However, I'm already very impressed! So far, I've already used it for checking my car's oil, carrying in some firewood, and bringing in a couple of bird feeders from the backyard. The light it throws is very impressive, and I like the 3 different light brightness levels. I primarily used the middle brightness for my several tasks. I haven't used the red light feature yet, but I'm sure it would be good for collecting some firewood for the pit during a party when there's people around you don't want to blind. It fits very securely to my head. It's lightweight and low-profile, which is a dramatic improvement over my previous headlamp.I was also very impressed with the headband itself! It resizes very smoothly and easily, and the plastic buckles seem very rigid and able to stand up to years of use. I love that it's rechargeable. As my first high-end headlamp, I can tell this was a good choice. It's styling is simple but sturdy, and the light it throws surpasses what I expected. I live in a rural area, and this will be endlessly useful, hopefully for years to come! Thanks for reading.

This is a good head torch.Pros: it's very bright - significantly brighter than my other head torch which is rated at 168 lumens. Having a rechargeable battery will save money, and having the option of putting in AAA batteries when the main battery runs down (and while you recharge the battery) provides good flexibility. I bought this because my other head torch, although excellent for walking at night on level tracks etc, was not quite bright enough for walking on rough tracks and paths in the Peak District. From what I've seen so far, the Actik Core is up to the job.Cons: the only weakness in my view is the switch. Rather than having two switches, one for red light and one for white light,it has a single switch. If you hold it down for a couple of seconds, the light will change colour. It's a lot less user-friendly than my other head torch in that respect. I'm also a little concerned about the waterproofing. It's claimed to be IPX4 weather resistant, although the cover doesn't fit very tightly and it looks as though water would get in if it rained. Maybe the insides are waterproof.

Ok so first things first, The customer service i received was excellent, there was a minor mishap as a result of royal mail’s failings. The communication from the seller was excellent throughout the whole process. So a 5 star rating for them!So the headlamp...I mean yeah, it’s alright, a good light output, the hybrid technology is ok i guess, it’s build quality seems ok but it feels thin and “plasticky” and the switch button feels cheap. It’s very comfortable when wearing, it did come a bit loose at one point whilst using it for work. This is my first Petzl headlamp, i decided to try something from the usual BlackDiamond brand i normally use.If i’m being honest it’ll probably be the last Petzl headlamp i buy as it’s just not the quality i expected for the price bracket. The battery life is good and the battery pack is good quality and charged quickly. All in all, it’s not bad. It’s not the best but it’s def not the worst either. It’d benefit from slightly better build quality and waterproofing aspect but it’s comfortable and has a decent light output.Hope this helps.

I owned a Petzl old time headlamp, bought in the 1980s and it lasted till recently. It was totally bullet proof. This one needs some improvements. First, the directions are so minimal, they need to give more info to buyers. Second, the on-off switch on the top is not the easiest to use, needs re-engineering to put it on the side and make not as hard to push in. Last, would have been real nice to have with it a way to re-charge on 110v. Yes, I plug it into the computer to re-charge and that does work okay. I am using this on a daily basis. Perhaps I am a hardcore user. As of February I have used this every day for early morning runs and walks. So far holding up great & very reliable.Update after about a year and a half: the headlamp has performed well up to now. In the past cold temperatures did not effect it. However now when the temperature gets below freezing the on/off switch does not turn the light on. Once I get inside and it warms up it operates correctly. So I have ordered a new one.

On initial inspection it seems excellent. I will update after more testing but out of the box it looks like exactly what I wanted. The bright setting is very bright , looks clear as day 40 ft out. The dim setting is very similar to my black diamond iota in intensity (100 lumens I think) ; seems fine for in the tent or small tasks but lacks brightness when trying to see outside your immediate area .I like the build , the battery pack has a light on it that lets you know when it's charged , and there's no adapter. You just plug the battery straight into a normal samsung charger . The fact that it also works with normal AAAs is comforting as well.Again, I'll update if/when things change but out of the box it seems totally legit .So far, favorite rechargeable headlamp, if expensive.Update: had it a while now and it still puts other lamps to shame. Great design, bright as heck . Would buy again.

I love the rechargeable pack... awesome. The light is bright. And the American consumer is picky so let me be picky for a bit.1) The Red LED has a very narrow beam. I liked the previous Petzl's LED throw because it was a filter that slid over the white source light so it cast a wide beam.2) The light is bright... and white. Everyone is obsessed with white 6400k lights but night is campfires and warmth- there's no reason to have a color-accurate daylight balanced LED. They should be 4000k max, preferably 2700k or 3000k. Yeah that's going to be a tough sell because everyone thinks white light is the best, and I hope in a generation this will change. There's no reason for a night light to be pure white- it disrupts the experience of night in just about every way.

Light source is great, but for the price I expected slight higher build quality. Seems like the plastic housing came off the same line as a $5 headlamp. The back doesn't snap to the front quite right and leaves a tiny gap. There's no overlap of the case halves in the design so even a light sprinkle would trickle water directly into the battery compartment. No attempt to protect the battery compartment or electronics from moisture. None. I've bought no-name lights that are more rugged than this.Material is thin and I expect the first time it hits the ground it will shatter.Pretty disappointed for $60.The light modes are useful though. Simple low, high, and both. Low is a flood.High is more of a spot.Switch into red light mode by holding the button.

I had ordered this lamp and the Black Diamond Storm for comparison and ended up not keeping any. Instead, I will order the Petzl with a battery. The Petzl lights up nicely without having to move your head large, but you have to put it in power mode when the going gets tough. And the batteries don't last long enough for that. I don't want to carry several sets of batteries with me on a trek. As I said, the illumination and comfort are nice. It is not as heavy and bulky as the Black Diamond. It has fewer functions, which are sufficient for me. The operation is correspondingly easier. Disadvantages compared to the Black Diamond: Less valuable; the on /off switch has no proper pressure point; the case does not make a tight impression.

This light is alright for trail running, I have bike lights that are much brighter than this that can be used on a head harness but they are too bulky to be worn running and bounce around then you have to have them so tight it causes a headache. This unit is very light and rechargeable but I am finding that even at my steady running pace of about 9kph I need the light on full power to see where I am going. On the lower setting I can see but I cannot judge things like the size of stones very well and found I was tripping on things a fair bit. I almost sent it back because of this but given that it is so compact and light I have kept it and I just carry 3 spare AAA's in my pack in-case I flattenthe rechargeable cell on a an outing

Got as a spare for an offroad event, but now using it as my main headtorch in place of my Silva. Excellent brightness on the highest of 3 settings, more than enough for dark trails. It automatically flashes and drops to lower brightness when battery level drops, giving sufficient notice to change out batteries. Rechargeable battery seems to last ~3hours on full setting. Really handy that you can use AAAs as backup (or purchase spare Li-ion @£25). Headband comfy for me. Head unit feels flimsy but does the job, holds the tilt angle where you set it, nice large power button. Would consider taking 2 of the these as main and backup for a race, as the weight is negligible.Recommending it to trail-running friends.

This is easily the best head torch I've used - I've had a few cheaper ones, and light produced is always a bit underwhelming. The top setting of the 3 on this head torch is blinding - very bright, and great for night-time trail runs. It's great having the option of using rechargeable battery (which is included) or sticking in some normal batteries, if you've forgotten to charge.Minor point is that to charge the battery, you have to take it out and charge it separately. However, the benefit of that is obviously the water resistance without having a port, and also that you have spare batteries charging to swap out if you needed, so this is actually a plus point. All in all highly recommended.

We are full-time RV'rs and use headlights all the time for repairs and other projects. I've been looking for a light that had a recharable battery and was also bright and had great battery life. This light is EXCELLENT. It is simple and only has 3 modes but I think that is part of what I love about it. The super bright function is extremely bright and the other two modes work great to extend battery life. I purchased two batteries so I could easily swap them but I have to say I barely ever have to as they last forever. The strap is wide and made of extremely durable material, I can tell this will last for a long time.I haven't tested the water resistance but the construction seems excellent.

A good head torch, comfortable to wear and the general "useability" is also good. If you have owned a petzl before then the operation is basically the same. One thing i noticed is the usual cheap feel plastic that is used with the other petzl range and both my previous petzls cracked/split over time. My primary reasons for buying this torch were the rechargeable battery and the light output and lighting options. Having owned 2 older models it is very obvious that the light output has increased somewhat over the years, not just the white but the red as well.Overall good, but petzl could learn a lesson from brands such as the ridgemonkey range in terms of build quality and feel.

I opted for this as I could swap out the included core rechargeable for normal batteries. Super bright on the highest setting. I needed my previous Tikka for an ultra, but had to make do with it's dying normal batteries, as kids stole all the spares batteries and no time for purchases! I was furious as I ended up racing dangerously on the muddy dark wet cliffs!...this drove my to this model for a rechargeable option, that I can also use normal batteries if need be. Not much large than the Tikka but it's heck of a lot brighter! I also bought a spare Core battery in case! I think I am going to buy another for my wife but I'm afraid she'll lose it thinking it's a cheap one......
