Used for: running in 30-40 degree weather with wind chills below freezingSize: mediumPros: price, fit, warmth, quality, COMPRESSIONCons: wish they had more reflective piping but not a big dealI needed a pair of thermal running tights for my evening runs and after doing a bit of research, I chose this pair and a pair of Asics tights (Thermopolis). Note: I haven't received my Asics tights so I can't compare the two but will provide an update. (UPDATE: I received my Thermopolis tights--buy one/get one free from the Asics site--and I LOVE those tights too. They are nothing like the Pearl Izumi tights though. Far less compression and different material. In fact, when I first saw/touched the Asics tights,I didn't think they'd keep me warm at all as they appear very lightweight but....they kept me warm during a 35-degree run. Needless to say, I was pleasantly surprised. So far, the Asics tights are the most comfortable tights I've ever warn. It feels like you have nothing on---no binding, no shifting, no bunching, and they're nice and long so they cover your ankles. If you want warmth without a lot of compression, try the Thermopolis tights or pants. The slim pants are just as warm--if not warmer--than the tights. Super comfortable too. Updating to add: if you need a super comfortable pant for running in really cold temps--sub-freezing--I *highly* recommend the Saucony Siberius pant. I haven't tried the tights yet but plan on getting a pair after trying the tights. Warmest pant ever and my new number 1 for cold weather running!)I love these Pearl Izumi tights. I wanted a tight with good compression that would keep me warm during runs in 30-40 degree weather with wind chills below freezing. These tights do the trick. Yes, you'll start out feeling a tad chilly but will quickly warm up (as with all cold weather gear) while staying dry and comfortable. Unlike some tights out there that leave your ankles bare, these are plenty long enough. I'm 5'6" and these give me a few inches to spare so if you're 5'8" to 5'9", these should cover your ankles. The ankle zippers don't rub or scratch and make these tights easy to get on and off.For those runners who like compression tights, I predict you'll love these too. So if you want more compression, order your normal tight size. These aren't quite as 'compressive' as most CW-X tights but they offer solid compression to fight muscle fatigue, especially during those cold weather runs. (Don't panic when you hold them up. They are like the CW-X tights in that you'll look at them, check the size tag, look at them again, check the size tag once more, and think "no way"!, but they'll fit. It's the compression. LOL) Now, if you want them a bit looser, I'd order a size up as they do have a drawstring waistband and really stay put. I found these tights true to size in that I ordered the same size I usually do in athletic gear (medium). I'm 5'6" tall, wear a size 6 in jeans, weigh around 136 lbs, and have muscular legs if that helps with sizing. Another thing I liked is they seem to have a slight high-low waistband in that it's *slightly* lower in the front. Very comfortable! They also stay put and don't rub or bind anywhere during a 4 mile run. I never have to adjust these tights during my run, which is a major plus. They seem to be of very good quality too. Granted, I've only washed them a handful of times thus far but they've held up well, including the fleece lining and reflective accents. These are high quality thermal tights at a great price. Mine came from TriVillage and arrived even sooner than anticipated. I recommend both the tights and the seller.

After posting a question regarding fit and getting several positive answers, I ordered a pair in MEDIUM. They are a tight fit, but not uncomfortable. I have run in them several times, handwashing and air drying each time, and they are holding up very well. I am 5'6" (28 waist, 38 hip) and there is plenty of length in the leg and plenty of stretch for my hips, quads and calves. I weigh anywhere from 133 to 137 (depending on training level at that time) and these fit fine. The legs are long enough to sit just above my ankle bone.As far as warmth - everyone is different, but everyone has the same question - what temp will these work best in? I am one who gets chilled easily and this is my opinion: These are ever so slightly fleece lined. For a brisk 1 hour walk or a quick 5k run, I am very comfortable in these with temps around 40-45 degrees F. On a long run over 5 miles (up to 20) I wouldn't wear these unless temps were 35-40 and I had to run in the wind - they would be too hot. Of course cold wind will make things a little colder and still air and sunshine will make things a little warmer. Over all, I'd say these pants work best (for me) when the outside REAL FEEL is steady at 40 or a little less and I was running a slow 20 miler with an average wind gust here and there.

I bought these for winter cycling about two years ago, and they are exactly what I wanted. They fit well over a pair of bike shorts and form-fit well alongmy legs. I have a size medium and am 5'5" and about 125LB. The inner lining is very soft, keeping them comfortable against my skin. They are very warm, meaning I can bike in 35 to 40-degree weather with just them and a pair of bike shorts on bottom and be just great. I'd recommend though that good footwearis also crucial. Your legs will not stay warm if your feet are cold. They also have a convenient pocket for keys or chap stick. And the zippers thatgo up to mid calf make them easier to get on and off,or can cool you off if the day heats up and you find yourself a bit overdressed. . They also seemto be of high quality because I've warn and washed them many times over the last two years, and they're good as new. I hang them up to dry though ratherthan running them through the dryer because I think they'll last longer. The only tiny drawback is the waist is a little low, but they never feel likethey're going to fall off. I would highly recommend these to anyone who likes to run or bike in the winter.

I ordered a Large, I'm 5'5" and about 150. They fit a little tight in my calves but the zippers helped me get them loose enough to get on. The compression material made them challenging to pull on. They were warm and soft on the interior, much warmer than the standard Nike running tights I typically run in.When I ran in them, they did creep down quite a bit around the front, until I was sure my skin was hanging out and my bare belly was showing. I hate having to hike pants up while I run! The waistline just isn't as high as I like. I tried tying the tie tighter and that did seem to help a bit but overall not as high waist as I would prefer in a run tight.Perhaps they were just so small that I should have gone up a size to keep them on. Typically I wear a large in running pants so an XL is probably right for me in these. Unfortunately, the first morning I wore these running, I tripped and fell and ripped a hole in the right knee so I can't return them. I'll have a badge of honor whenever I wear them. I run in Wisconsin winters and I think these would be good in under 30 degree mornings.

OK, this is the first time I am dissappointed after buying a product based on reviews. Either Pearl Izumi changed the design of these tights or I'm smaller than I think I am.I followed everyone's advice and sized up to a large. HUGE mistake. These are huge on me. When I first put them on they were a bit loose, but nothing major so I decided to keep them since they were super comfortable, flattering, and warm. I took them out on my first run today and I was miserable the entire time. I had to pull them up several times throughout my run. The waist just kept sliding down my waist with every step. By mile 2 I just gave up and went home. I am 5'6", 136 lbs and wear size 7-8 jeans.I always wear a medium in tops and most bottoms but I followed what the reviewers said and I regret that I did. These are not my first Pearl Izumi tights and their medium fits perfect on me. Lesson learned I guess.Other than that, the product is great. I would suggest buying your size and one size up and keep the one that fits.

I'm a size 3/4. 5'6" I carry weight in my middle and thighs. I got the size large because of how many people said to size up. I should have went with the medium like I normally wear. They will work in a large but they won't last me long because if I lose much weight they will fall off. The waist is already kind of loose fitting maybe ill be able to put another layer underneath once they become too big for extra cold days running. They are very very warm though and for my height they are perfect length in the large size. I don't know how much difference in length there would be in the medium. Everyone said size up but I say buy two pair one medium and one large and send whatever one doesn't fitback.

I actually bought these to wear over my bicycle shorts, since these are not padded and I bought the larger size after reading other reviews. Thank goodness I did. I am not a skinny young thing, but for my weight, do have thin legs. These fit very snug on my legs, so I suspect these are made for tall skinny young ladies despite the word Women's in the description. Also ladies, please note the low rise on the tummy. They do fit as the picture depicts. I find this annoying, but they are so warm, I'm very glad I bought them. I ride in low 50 to low 60 degree weather and these keep the cold off of my legs.

I bought these and used them the day I got them during a huge snowstorm in Chicago. They were so comfortable and warm during my entire run. I listened to the reviews and ordered them a size up and sadly wished I hadn't. Too much material. If you do that, unless you have excess weight at the hips, thighs and butt.(I'm usually between a 2 and 4 but have a butt on me so ordered them large.) I have to roll them at the bottom now, total bummer. But I would order these again for sure. This is a gr8 brand...

Got a second pair because my first pair not only feels good on my skin, and protects from the cold (limit is 34 degrees for me), but also it protected my skin from road rash over my last few spills. The pants did not tear at all! Just got like a 1/2" diameter scrape on my knee under the tights, but I could have been really hurt from those spills, and these tights protected my skin. I am 122 lbs, 5'4" and I got a medium.

27.5.2015

Wore these all winter. Good reflective markings, good insulation, good breathability. Wore in 15-20 degree F weather. Doesn't show my crack...doesn't droop down - I got a medium, 5'5" with 40" hips and a bubble but so it was a major concern. Good compression, butt feels in place or as little wiggle as possible compared to my cotton leggings. These are my first pair of compression leggings, I just wanted something warm.

23.1.2015

Bought these for fall/winter cycling and walking outside in TN. Even wore them in Michigan a few times. For cycling, I can easily put a pair of padded liner shorts underneath. Overall, a great buy for cold walks and rides. At the time I was 5'6" 157 lbs and bought a large. Fit well. Now I've lost 8-10 pounds and they're a little big, but they have a drawstring at the waist that solves that problem.

16.1.2014

The fit a tad smaller than expected. My still almost true to size. Once I loose some weight it will be perfect. These aren't made for bigger/larger women at all. Im no means a big girl, just average and they barely fit w/a XL. They do keep your legs warm but not like I was really hoping for. NOT ment for winter biking. It would be good for around 50 degree weather and that's maxing it. Layer up

24.4.2015

I am 5'0" and wear a size 2 pant. These fit perfectly. I live in New York and I do cold winter running, where the temperature is sub 0 most of the time. I would suggest buying these but buying something thermal to go under them to block the wind from your legs, that way in the spring you have something to wear as well! I am very happy with these and I love the reflectors!

3.4.2014

super comfortable, perfect for biking. they don't have seat pads, though! The reflective patches add a nice touch and extra protection. Just a note, I feel like they accent your hips when looking at the pants head-on, because they angle inward from top to bottom. I also bought the same pants in regular, non-thermal and they are great too! I am size 4 and I got a Medium.

5.9.2014

I am a tall girl, with maybe a total of 10 pounds overweight. Trying to get back on shape, omg! These pearl Izumi tights make my body look great, I feel so comfortable and happy that is an incentive to go out and do some running or Zumba and feel great on the with yourself!Comfortable, beautiful design , upper tummy control , great compression. Excellent buy
