I previously bought a pair of Celestron Skymaster 25x70 astronomical binoculars for viewing UFO's and Planets. I could only really see Jupiter and just about Saturn but the moon looked absolutely incredible, like a Hologram. I also observed an Orb turn into a Flying Saucer and then turn into a Plane Hologram with no numbers or markings but it was as real as you can imagine! The bins were heavy to hold at 1.5 kg so, 15-20 second bursts until you get tired of repeatedly doing that. I did get an aluminium tripod for it but that was not much good as the bins were still too heavy to manoeuvre/balance nicely. They were also naturally outstanding for daytime viewing but once again, the issue was the weight.I saw many UFO's or 'Holograms' in daylight too with even greater clarity. I was very happy to have had this experience as I was a complete newbie to binoculars and astronomy and I didn't want a large telescope at this stage.I do not believe that one may purchase any better binoculars than the Skymaster at that size/weight/price/magnification, so they were outstanding. The problem was that I hardly ever felt like taking them with me because they were so big and heavy! I was not using them as much and I would rather walk empty handed up the mountains and hills, rather than having a most painful walk having to carry them, ruining the very purpose of my voyage. But when I reached the top I would be most annoyed that I didn't have my binoculars to view the horizon and sky. Therefore, I had a great dilemma for what to do?So, one day I was watching a movie and I saw someone using an old fashioned 'Monocular' and that got me thinking..I wanted something as close to the quality of my Skymaster as possible with the reduced size. This Monocular lens views almost identical to my bins but just slightly less quality, almost as if it were the same lens, but just a 'junior' model. I feel that one may understand such a description far better than some technical jargon. Now, viewing through a monocular will take some getting used to, but bear with it because it is surely worth it. The monocular is rated 10-25X, remembering the bins are also 25X, but I would say the monocular is nearer to 20X but do not let that put you off as they are still amazing ( as mentioned ; like a junior model ) and they are so much smaller and lighter.I was so relieved at the quality, it did surprise me as I was expecting something entirely different altogether. As the main lens ( outer ) is smaller than the pair of bins, this means that the monocular cannot gather as much light, so the image will be slightly darker at night, but it is still amazing. The monocular image will shake slightly at higher magnifications, but you can use two hands to help and just because you choose to lower your magnification does not detract from the experience, if you remember how I explained that you can only really see 2 planets with the bins - please think about this. The moon still looked great, not quite as big or detailed - as you will also lose some clarity - but still so amazing. I did notice a very slight blue fringe on the moon but it didn't even bother me as I was expecting it to as depicted in some other reviews.I could not see the UFO transition to saucer to plane quite as clearly as before, but it was still fine, I do believe this is pushing any equipment to their limits as you may discover.I think this monocular is a technical masterpiece, state of the art. It may be bigger than your usual monocular which is tiny but remember these have greater magnification. Now, I finally take my monocular with me every day, and I really don't feel that I am missing out on much. I feel so happy to have this tiny little unit in comparison to my bins, it is truly life changing. My opinion ; get this Monocular or get a Telescope. Don't bother with bins ( unless they are smaller less powerful ones that you want ). The Astro Bins, just don't have a place in my book, unless you really do just want that initial taster of 20 second bursts as long as stamina will allow and to even carry in the first instance.I highly recommend this Monocular and the price is fantastic, I am most impressed with the quality and I hope one may gain a 'feel' for my review rather than assimilating technical information!

All I can say is wow. I purchase this product without reading Amazon reviews due to there not being any. I read some reviews at other sites that said this was a good monocular, and knowing the Orion name I went for it. I personally don't like binoculars I can never get to where the image is clear with both eyes. I am very happy with this item. I can zoom all the way out and read the emblem on a refriderator in a guys yard at almost half a mile. Zoomed all the way out it's hard to keep from shaking but I was standing at the door to my office, not resting my arms on something. This is a great little item I'd recomind it to others looking for a great monocular for the money.

I use the monocular during sketching live models during art sessions since my eyes do not focus as sharply as they once did. I got this idea from David Jon Kassan while observing his portrait drawing demonstrations during the Portrait Society of America's 2013 Art of the Portrait Conference in Atlanta, GA. This allows you to see close up details of the eyes, ears, lips, jewelry, etc at a reasonable distance without having to get up close to model. I highly recommend this instrument for any artist that may not have the sharpest far sighted vision or who simply likes portraying more detail with relative ease.

This is a cool optic. I really didn't know what to expect, having never had a "monocular" before. It took a little getting used to, but now I go looking for things to look at, just to play with it. lol The image quality is great and I can use it with or without my glasses, just bend back the eye cup for use with my glasses. The fact that you have infinite adjustability on the magnification is great, start out at 10 power and just slowly turn it up to 25 power or anything in between, does get a bit "shaky" at the higher mags. All-in-all, a very nice optical device for all around use.

I knew I wasn't buying a Bausch & Lomb, a Nikon, or a Ziess. However, the optics are clear enough, I am not able to tell the difference. There's no distortion or (ready?) chromatic aberration. Starting out at 10 power, it is just a bit hard to hold steady. There is a 1/4X20 mount for attaching to a tri-pod. There isn't any dust caps, as has been mentioned in other reviews. For a reference on image size, the full moon doesn't quite fill the viewfinder at 25 power. Great little and light telescope. And for the price, if you scratch the lens, throw it away and buy another.

The optics and build quality of this monocular are excellent. My only criticism is that it is quite large and heavy, considerably larger and heavier than I was expecting. Maybe I just didn't red the specs carefully enough before buying. I have another monocular that I was looking to improve on that I take backpacking, but this one is probably too big and heavy to take hiking. I plan to keep it anyway as it is well made. I guess I will have to look for another one that is smaller for more mobile uses.

I love it. One eye, easy to focus and zoom, neck strap, and tripod screw hole. I bought it for the convenience of zoom and size. I am fine at up to 20 zoom held by hand. If you want to use it on full 25 zoom, it gets a little shaky held by hand, so for birds, animals, etc., at long distance, a small tripod is best. It also works with my phone camera put up to the eye piece, so I might purchase the the actual mounting holder so I can do this. I have several binoculars but I like this better.

I wanted a reasonably lightweight, but compact scope to check groups at 100 yards and look at birds, stargazing, etc.I am actually very impressed with the quality of this little scope. At higher magnification settings the image gets increasingly blurred. And trying to spot .223 or even .338 Lapua Magnum target impacts at 100 yards yards was not possible. But all In all this is a very good value for the asking price.I would have rated a 5 if they would have included a tripod mount with it.

This mono is incredibly compact for the capability it provides. The sight picture is crisp and clear and it's easy to focus while viewing. The zoom is not as easy to manipulate while viewing. Because it has such a short focal length the image is difficult to keep steady when zoomed to 25x, but that should be expected. Bottom line is that I amazed at what I can see with this thing, and with 10-25 zoom range in a small waterproof package this products provides an excellent value.

This is a great monocular! I was put off by the price and have bought cheaper ones in the past and what a difference. You get what you pay for. The optics are very good, it even stays in focus when you zoom in. Easy to read license plates at 1/4 mile. The close up focus is amazing (20") and allows you to inspect things you can't normally see, it beats crawling into tight spaces. I did not notice any "Blue" ghosting or outlines described by another reviewer.

I find I like this better than binoculars. 10x is about the best I can do without a tripod, so if I had to buy it again I would probably buy without the zoom, but it is nice to occasionally zoom in a bit on the tripod. I keep an Arca Swiss type QR plate on the monocular so that it will fit any of my tripods with no problem. The image quality is very good, and I have digiscoped with it on my smartphone successfully.

Easy to use and compact enough to carry around. Clear and sharp focus. Good zoom range. Nice close up focus.Watch the strap connection. After having the strap come loose and dropping the monocular, I used a small tool to tighten the connector. No problems since then. The rubber covered body did prevent any damage to the unit.No caps are provided, which was a little disappointing.

This thing is great! It's clear throughout the 10-25 zoom and that 42mm lens really brings in the light. well made and heavy too. But like all monoculars it does seem to be more difficult than binoculars to hold steady. But i use it for hunting and just end up leaning on a tree which works well for the higher magnifications.

Well built, compact and easy to adjust. Optical quality is very good. After two pairs of binoculars had their internal prisms knocked out of line, making them useless, I decided to try a monocular. I find this easier to use. Comes with a nice fabric carrying case and lanyard. Much more compact to carry than binoculars.

I am very pleased with the quality of images. I use it on walks to look at things far and near. The larger 42mm dia. gives a bright image compared to smaller monocular I have. Lizards at 10ft can be seen as if inches away. Case is ok quality with belt strap. I would purchase again.
