I have been using this style of Nalgene bottle for at least 6 or 7 years. I had three given to me back then. I would constantly rotate them in my usage. Well, 6 to 7 years into using them the bottoms of ALL THREE began to crack from the center injection nipple. This then caused them to begin leaking. I contacted Nalgene asking about any type of leak warranty. I found the response a bit comical. I was told to just consider the bottles as having lived a good long life (and basically they were not going to replace them). So here I found myself on Amazon to purchase a replacement (although I am going to need two more still).I am always on the go. I lift weights 6 days a week and always have a 32 oz narrow mouth with me.I jog 2½ miles round trip to and from the gym and carry the bottle in my hand. I constantly work on DIY projects at the house and keep my bottle filled with fluids to keep me hydrated. I keep one at the office and in a ten hour day attempt to drink three full bottles of water. And now, I have found this bottle to be the perfect companion to refilling our newly acquired Kuerig B60 (instead of removing the Keurig's water reservoir - it is much less cumbersome to bring the water to the machine) from the RO DI faucet in my house. So yes, I use them and run them through the test. So as far as durability goes I still think they are fantastic. I am bothered by the failure of my three bottles though. (And here is why). After receiving this new Nalgene bottle, it was EXTREMELY obvious the type of plastic used in the manufacturing of this bottle has changed. Maybe the ones made 7 years ago were not BPA free. The older ones do have the dreaded 7 (and no note of being BPA free like the new ones). But back to the point... The new bottles are softer, more pliable, and feel less brittle. Don't get me wrong - these are till very hard and sturdy bottles, but the older ones were definitely a harder type of plastic. And I am TOTALLY guessing this had something to do with the failure of the bottom of the bottles. Ahh, but who knows?Well, at least I have a new, fresh BPA free start. I would say the only perceived down side to these are the price. But I don't think it is a real down side. We live in a time when we want everything to be cheap. This often means we get low price and low quality. Well here is an item you pay good money for an almost bullet proof, long lasting, fluid reservoir. If you put your bottles through the usage I do, you will appreciate the durability of these. I may be a little hung up on having to buy new ones after many years of usage, but at least the first three were given to me. I think the plastic has changed in the bottles (now being BPA free) and maybe that means they will last 10 or more years now. Hopefully it doesn't make them NOT as durable.I think it deserves five stars (even if it lasts only 7 years) simply because I am confident there isn't a better bottle for the money. Now, I just need two more to replace the other two cracked bottom bottles and I will be set.

I remember a time ago when Nalgene was the have to have premium water bottle, which was also the case for me too at the time. I vividly remember not being able to go anywhere without seeing people with them in hand either in class in college or at the gym.Having had previous experience with this line, when I started becoming active fit again, I of course went in search of the old faithful line. To my surprise, I had trouble locating the line in very many of the major retail chains. As of late, the Contigo brand seems to dominate the market with their new nifty pop up dispenser. As previous with the Nalgene, I see everybody with one of these in tow lately. I have only owned one of these products, which was a hand-me-down, I don't claim to be an expert on all of their latest and greatest models, but I just don't prefer them to the Nalgene bottle. My main qualm, although it may be just my own strange personal quirk, are these pop up dispensers on these bottles. In my mind, I feel the constant sucking on these tops, almost like a baby on bottle, are not sanitary. I always have a vision of the suck tops glistening in the sun, catching anything floating in the air...growing who knows what...bacteria, etc. After all that, you go again and put it back in your mouth. I KNOW STRANGE--imagining such things, but I do.The simple fact of the matter for me is this...if it ain't broke, then don't fix it. I prefer the narrow mouth opening on these bottles, which prevent spills onto oneself when you go for a long pull for maximum hydration. I have owned the regular opening models and have had frequent spills. I will admit the one down side to the narrow mouth opening is cleaning the bottle. If you need to get into to scrub the inside with a sponge, forget about it, unless you have some sort of scrubbing brushes like those used to clean baby bottles. Drying also is an issue since the opening is so small. I don't have an issue as I regular clean mine on a daily basis as I am clean freak AS YOU READ ABOVE. So if you are one of those that frequently leaves their bottles sitting for long periods, then the narrow mouth opening may not be the option for you. One other issue to consider is whether or not you intend on using a water filtration system while out on longer journeys because if so, then a wide mouthed opening would be needed.I previously read many complaints about the bottles having a pungent aroma to them. I have had 4 bottles and not had this problem with a single one of them. The only thing that I can think of is that people are not cleaning them as frequently as they might need. Yes, it only water, but they still need to be washed out.As far as durability, my newest bottle has stood up to the test time and time again. My bottle has fallen out my pack while either hiking or trail running and has not broken after having fallen on both rocks and gravel trails. I have similarly accidentally dropped it on the pavement a few times and it still has not broken.

We've had one of these, which I bought at a sporting goods store, for around 10 years now. It is still in perfect condition minus some minimal scuffs from the dishwasher or being inside a backpack. The ones on Amazon are much cheaper and the quality still looks the same. We're glad we made the switch to BPA free years ago. They also make some Nalgene water bottles with different caps and necks, and they have all been wonderful. My favorite for everyday use at work and school are the newer ones that have a screw on top, but the top has a hinge with an arched topper-thing. The top opens up to reveal a hole about the circumference of a nickel, which gives you plenty of water without a lot of spills, makes refilling from a sink or fountain easier, and makes cleaning a breeze compared to the old style water bottles with pull tops w/ dinky holes to drink from, or straws. These are really important since most non-stainless steel water bottles do have BPA, which can cause all kinds of issues, especially with the hormones of children. We stopped storing our food in plastic containers (using glass ones instead), chose these Nalgene and some ,stainless steel water bottles, etc, and have felt much more relaxed for years now. The bonus over stainless steel is that there is no metal taste from the Nalgene bottle. Finally: My favorite about this particular 32 oz size is that you can practically get your hand in there to scrub it out. I can fit it in the top rack of my dishwasher, though I usually hand wash, and I know it will get clean. If there were visible particles inside it, I would be able to see them better than with stainless steel. The con is for those who need a stainless steel bottle while bugging out or something, as a way to boil and therefore purify their water over a fire or stove. These are lighter...and GSI and Oli sell metal camp cups of high quality (with folding handles) that will fit perfectly onto the bottom of this bottle. Those are about $10 and you'd be a lot less likely to burn yourself. With that method, you aren't adding a whole lot of weight if any compared to having a stainless steel bottle of this size...and you have a way to avoid burning yourself.

The Nalgene Trident wise mouth bottle is a staple in the outdoors. The bottle pretty much speaks for itself, so I’m using this review as a testimony for its quality after years of use. Here’s my story:After 20 years, my first Nalgene Trident bottle broke. It took a fall at 18mph onto pavement to cause a small crack to form a few years ago, and another accidental drop onto concrete to cause that crack become a fracture rendering the bottle useless. Being stored in a car, having hot liquids in it, and age may have caused the plastic to become brittle over time. No worries, I got plenty of use out of it! Over those TWO DECADES of heavy use, I’ve gone through a couple lids as they tend to break from my carabiner or just get nasty.Replacement lids and other accessories are readily available in outdoor/sporting goods stores and even some big box retailers, and of course here on amazon. If you need something to fit your bottle for your adventure, you’ll be able to find it not far away from your trail/camp/home etc. I love the quality of these products so much that every one of our five children took some of their first sips out of a nalgene trident style sippy bottle (yes, they make them, and they are of the highest quality). My son’s scout bottle is a glow in the dark nalgene trident that doubles as a lantern and helps him find it in the dark when camping with the troop. The basic minimalist design is perfect; no extras that are unnecessary for basic hydration and water carrying needs. I also have appreciated the range of accessories made to fit the Trident bottle. My minimalist carry setup is a molle pouch on a belt (also has a sling). The bottle fits inside a glacier cup with folding handles. While I have not personally used my bottle over a stove to heat water, I’ve been told that it is possible. I use my nested glacier cup for that. The markings wore off my bottle years ago, but when they were there I used the bottle for measuring ingredients for camp cooking.Hope this anecdote of two decades of use provides some insight into the long-term durability of these products.

I got two of these and they are clearly of good solid quality. The mouths are wide enough to drop full size ice cubes in with your beverage. Then cleanup is a breeze. If you have a bottle brush or a glasses sponge you can very easily get in everywhere to clean them. Otherwise you can just use a stick or long utensil to move a dishcloth around inside. These are not made to keep drinks hot or cold. Any ice will pretty much melt at the same temp they would have in a pitcher. Hot drinks should be avoided. These are plastic and so high heat insn't going to work with these.I ordered the Nalgene inserts for them too. The problem with wide mouth jugs or pitchers is they will spill all over you, especially if you add ice. They can give you a shockingly cold shower of whatever beverage you put in. With the Nalene inserts, you push them down into the wide mouth of the bottle. Now you have to drink from the lower part of the opening. There's no other place for an air vent and so you don't want to cover the insert's opening completely with your mouth or it won't flow. It takes a bit of getting used to sipping from it instead of quickly pouring. Some people poke or drill a small hole in the solid side to serve as an air vent. But the great thing is you can tip it way up without getting a face full of ice or liquid. You should get the inserts with each bottle you get because then you have the advantage of easily dropping in ice or even fruit slices. Then when the insert is installed, you have the advange that small mouthed tops provide as in less spills. Also the cap is held on by a well affixed plastic strip that can be easily pushed out of the way or held down by the hand while you drink. This plastic strap is pretty solid and you can use it as a handle for carrying it or hanging the bottle up.I'm quite happy with the quality of the bottles I got. Some reviewers talked of an odor till washed a few times. I didn't notice any such odor before or after their initially cleaning, including the inserts.I highly recommend these bottles.

Great bottle. Contains water within its walls, if you are on the go a lot and normally carry water in your hands, in your mouth, or on a table, this is a much better solution. The bottle has no fingers for the water to slip through, unlike hands, and contains the water on all sides, rather than just one side of a table. I am very happy with my purchase.I have removed one star because the Eastman Tritan co-polyester plastic used in its production does not have a publicly available formula. It is BPA free, but the co-polyester is a brand name that covers a small range of varied plastics. There is a potential risk of other endocrine altering hormones that could be in the plastic, and leech out when the bottle is subjected to high thermal stress that is within the advertised range of the bottle. I have found a couple studies that examine this exact bottle, when boiling water (100C) is in it for 2 hours the plastic can begin to break down. There are also indications of high thermal stress in the production of the bottle. The bottle is advertised as safe for 100C temperatures, while I am 99.99% sure that is the case, there is no way to be sure, at least for the causal consumer, of exact plastic used in its production. The plastic does not have any safety issues when exposed to UV sunlight, which the same can not be said for many of nalgene's lesser competitors. Sunlight is probably my biggest worry when drinking from plastics, this is probably the safest bet save for a metal container. That said I plan on drinking many gallons of water from this in the future, and I honestly won't be worrying about the plastic it is made from. I probably wouldn't even worry if it was still made of the old polycarbonate. However at least I can look up exactly what the polycarbonate is, that is really my main gripe with this proprietary stuff.

Where do I even begin? One upon a time, in a land rot with hipsters, tree-huggers, Uggs, NorthFace jackets, and Starbucks, there was a parched young woman. It just so happened that this young woman was struggling to find her way in the world and so badly wanted to fit in with her peers. She noticed that all of the "cool kids" had many things in common including their NorthFace jackets and these weird, hard, water bottles that they all adhered photos and stickers to the outside of, using Mod Podge. Every day she watched the "cool kids" go through volleyball practice, throwing these bottles around when they were done drinking water from them. One day, she noticed a small logo that said,"Nalgene" and thought to herself, "Hmm, perhaps I should get one of those too? Maybe it'll make those kids like me more!"After much begging and pleading, her mother took her to the nearest REI and allowed her to use the money she'd been saving to purchase a pink Nalgene bottle and that's when the love affair began. The young woman and her bottle were never far from each other. She beat the h--- out of that thing (unintentionally, of course) and it embraced her treatment with undying love. Not once did it crack, falter or show any signs of weakness and stayed true to the young woman until one day she lost it.The EndBottom Line:This thing is amazing.Rough, tough and the baddest b---h on the blockI appreciate the wide-mouth so I can add ice to it (nothing annoys me more than a drinking hole being too small for ice)Easy to cleanI had one all through high school and it took a beating.I recently purchased this orange one for my 9-year-old in hopes that he carries on the legacy and passes it down to his children too.

When I first ordered this I thought $10 for a water bottle? I know there are many much more expensive, but I guess I'm a little cheap. That being said, I wanted something large as I tend to guzzle water at the gym and a 16oz or 20oz bottle just doesn't cut it. After using this for the last week, I am completely in love with this bottle. While I know that sounds crazy, it was exactly what I needed and more. First it fits 32oz which is awesome, it doesn't leak even if you turn it upside down and any which way; and to make it even better, it has measurements on the side of the bottle. I like to use water enhancers a lot, so this is perfect. They normally are more for 8 or 16.9oz bottles,so I can figure out exactly how much I need. If you're looking for a quality water bottle to use at the home and the gym or wherever, consider getting one of these. It's great!Positives:-No leakage-Holds 32oz of water-Has measurements on the side-Top does not get lost or in the way and when closed serves as a handle-Extremely sturdy-No BPA according to the companyNegatives:-It's really fat (measures 11.5" around) so it might not fit in a normal cupholder. That being said, pretty much any bottle that holds this much would be without being extremely tall (and who wants a water bottle as tall as you?).-You have to hold the bottle upwards quite a bit to get the last few sips out due to the way the mouth is made. Once again, this helps prevent spillage though so it can be viewed as a positive as well.

I kept buying glass water bottles and then breaking them by mistake. This time around I decided to suck it up and go with plastic. Another thing that had been a priority had been fitting in a cup holder but I also wanted more capacity and I couldn't see to find both, so I went with the larger size. Imagine my delight when I realized this DOES fit in my cupholder! It will fit into the larger size cupholders ONLY, not the standard sized one. So, it doesn't fit in any of the ones in my Prius but does fit in the Mercury Mariner cupholder when you remove the cupholder insert allowing yourself a bit more space. I love the wide mouth on this bottle, too. I didn't want a straw and I always spill on myself so the wide mouth was a must. The other thing that I'm thrilled about is that the bottle seals itself really well so you don't spill water whenever you open it. My prevous bottle dribbled water from the lid everytime I opened it and I just thought I was the reason. Now, I realize that it was never me and it was the bottle all along. As silly as it sounds, this is like a whole new world! I am thrilled by this bottle and would definitely buy it again. It is sturdy, drop-able without being breakable, has a wide opening and BONUS: fits in my large sized cup holders. Tip: the price varies based on the color, so if you don't care about the color but do care about the price click on all of the options before adding to the cart and purchasing.

This is the standard bottle that made Nalgene a household name some years ago. This particular model has been updated to be BPA free, removing one of the biggest downsides of using a plastic bottle. These bottles are great for almost everything. Keep one in your house for tap water. Keep one at your desk for the water cooler. Keep a couple around to take backpacking and camping. The bottle has a wide mouth that makes it easy to fill and easy to clean. It has measurement markings on the outside (and is clear) which lets you measure out amounts of water for, say, cooking at camp. Nalgenes are notoriously hard to break. I've taken them hiking in -20 degree weather and had them freeze, but they still didn't burst on me. I've dropped them down cliffs while full of water and found them again later, still intact. When camping I do like to bring a mix of plastic Nalgene bottles and stainless steel bottles. Stainless bottles are nice because you can boil water right inside of them in a pinch. Plastic bottles are lighter weight, and every oz counts on a long trip. Both can hold boiling water if necessary (for a winter night, put hot water in this bottle, wrap it in a wool sock, and put it in your sleeping bag, it will keep you nice and toasty).Overall there isn't too much more I can say, these bottles are the standard by which all others are measured. They're inexpensive and durable. You can't go wrong with a Nalgene.

I love these things I have three I fill up all the time and keep two of them frozen (Not sure if it's recommended) but I've frozen all the way the bottom of neck (Making sure to remove the lid during freezing also) and I've never had a problem. I have one 32 ounce in particular that was my first... This one fell off the tailgate of my truck at 60 mph when frozen solid and only had a couple of scratches where it first contacted the pavement. A couple of months later my son left the same one on top of the cab of my F-350 and the same thing happened. This time it was almost full but completely melted. External scratches only but has not cracked or damaged the integrity of the bottle itself.I did damage this same bottle in one way I didn't expect. I had tied a piece of para-cord to the loop that holds the lid tethered to the bottle tied the other end to a tree limb beside my hammock. I grabbed it, took a drink and dropped the nearly-full bottle and the force broke the small disk on top of the lid off... I simply mixed up some JB Weld and pasted a thin layer on and let it set overnight. It's as good as new now. These things are nearly bulletproof. My first one is coming up on 6 years old and still like new on the inside (Only water in mine for most part, in one I've filled with boiling hot ramen many times and works as good with hot as it does cold). I stand behind these bottles. Try one, you won't regret it.

I've been using Nalgene water bottles for camping, hiking, and everyday use for close to twenty years, and I can attest that Nalgene water bottles are durable, and will serve you well for a long time. I'm unsure what is recommended by the manufacturer, but I've washed mine in the dishwasher (top rack) for years with no problems. I recently ordered the Nalgene “Silo” bottle which holds a whopping 48 ounces! This is the first time that I have had one this large, but it seems to be made just as sturdy as all the others I've owned over the years. I purchased it to use at work, because I recently decided that I wasn't drinking enough water throughout the day – this bottle will certainly help with that!Since it holds 48 ounces, only have to fill it twice per day to have all the water I want. It was labeled “BPA Free” and I have no reason to doubt it. The “Silo” will not fit in most cup holders, so I also have one that fits in the car cup holder – it's a Nalgene OTF (On the Fly). The OTF holds 20 ounces, and has a different style cap that pops open with a button. Nalgene sells many various sizes, styles, and colors so you should be able to find one to suit you. I've always been a big fan of Nalgene water bottles, and I would not hesitate to recommend them to anyone who needs a good water bottle. The picture on Amazon was of a Blue bottle, but the heading said Grey - which is what I wanted and received,

I carry this every day. This is the best water bottle that I have ever used. It has never leaked and I recommend this to everyone that asks about it for that reason. I am considering purchasing another as a back up. My Fiancee even bought one since I liked mine so much. She bought a smaller one that she can throw in her purse (it also has never leaked in her purse).Function: It serves its intended purpose. It holds water, and it holds it very well. It has never leaked on me. It does sweat, but I expected that. Due to my heavy use of it some of the lettering is coming off, although it is still legible. The stripped texture on the lid is very conductive to grip for tightening or removal. It is easier to wash than many bottles I have. I do have trouble fitting it into some cup holders, but I knew it was a larger bottle.Quality: It feels sturdy and looks sturdy. I have dropped it a few times in the house and on tile with no resulting cracks or marks. I have never dropped it on concrete though. I carry this bottle by the strap that holds the cap on. A few people have mentioned that it broke on them. I have not experienced this. I have clipped it up in my range bag before and it has held up well. The only thing that I want to get to complete this is some sort of insulated carrier for it. Nalgene has some proprietary ones and there are a few universal ones that I am looking into.

Nalgene durability makes this a great bottle, as well as the mouth, which is more than wide enough to provide a large flow of water (but not as wide as wide mouth bottles which make drinking difficult). I use two nalgene bottles on a frequent basis for going to the gym. I use this for water, and a wide mouth nalgene for protein shakes, as the wide mouth makes it easy to dump scoops of protein into it. Both have very large capacities, which is great for holding a large amount of liquid. This holds a bit more than a quarter of a gallon, which is a lot of fluid. The measuring lines are also great.I've used this, a wide mouth nalgene, a klean kanteen, and a nissan intak. The nissan intak is made of the same plastic, but it tends to shatter easier because of the less durable design (nalgene tritan's are cylindrical which is more sturdy and durable). Nissan intak had a better spout, but this is more than comfortable enough, its also more durable. The klean kanteen was great, but smells and tastes would permanently stick to the metal and no amount of cleaning would get them out. It also would get innumerable dings and dents in it that couldn't be fixed. My nalgene took the same beatings or worse and emerged with just a few cosmetic scratches. Nalgene bottles are in my opinion, hands down the best bottles you can get. They'll last you forever.

This obviously has all the problems and benefits of a wide mouth bottle (hard to drink from, but easy to pour in stuff, etc). But aside from that, it's also a Nalgene. I've used Klean Kanteens, cheap lined aluminum bottles , cheap knockoff plastic bottles from target, the nissan intak water bottle (which uses the same type of plastic as this), and I've gotta say, Nalgene is the best hands down. The nissan intak is a close second and it uses the same plastic, however, its form factor with the sharper edges make it more prone to breaking, and mine did indeed break when I dropped it from about 3 feet up onto stone floor. I've done that multiple times to this and I've had it for over a year now,and it's none the worse for the wear. Also, the nissan had a silicone gasket, which tends to dry out and crack over time, causing the bottle to leak. The klean kanteen tends to retain the smells and tastes from whateve was previously in the bottle, and dents easily. The cheap bottles are just that, cheap, and poor quality. In the end, nalgene is the best choice. It's extremely durable, the top secures tightly without the need for a gasket, and its on a loop so you can't mispace it and lose it. I use this every day for my protein shakes and I've had 4 nalgene bottles so far and probably never will use another brands. Definitely recommend this.
