A lovely quality toy. Lovely large colourful beads for little fingers to get a good grip on and good sized hole for the laces to thread through. The hole for the lace to go through is a bit rough on the inside and snaggs the laces a little. However it is easy enough to buy colourful laces from a sports shop, so not really a problem. My just 2 year old grandaughter loves playing with these, not only enjoying the skill of the threading, but playing with the "snakes" or knotting up one end and running about with it trailing behind, counting how many of each colour as well as how many there are alltogether,or just arranging in groups of colours Improves dexterity, teaches basic colours, counting and fitness with all the running around! She even likes to stack them. A really good toy. Just make sure if they want to wear the made 'necklace' you secure it in a way that will easily come undone under pressure in case of strangulation.

This threading activity has assorted animals and thick string so the chid can weave around the object and is amazing for developing fine motor skills, hand and eye co-ordination in early years. This was for my little nephew's birthday and he needed some guidance but enjoyed it! During lockdown I encourage activities like this for children aged 3 years plus as I have taught in early years and this activity helps with hands and fingers development (fine motor skills) and is 100% better than watching youtube or cartoons. This helps children to hold the pencil correctly and start forming simple phonetic letters. I apologise for the long review however young children aged 3 years plus need lots of activities that develop language and fine motor skills and an adult to guide him/her.This is perfect during the lockdown days and during holidays or the weekend.

(5p/Xbox controller to give an idea of size. Couldn’t think of something universal for a size reference )Was concerned these may be too small but they are really big and chunky and much better than expected. Perfect for tiny hands and much less of a choking hazard than I thought. Little one really enjoys just taking them on and off the string as well as playing around looking through the holes and generally inspecting them. Very bright and colourful as shownPaints sturdy and doesn’t wipe or chop off easily like cheaper ones and the laces seem well sealed so doubt they’ll fray too easily.Arrived really fast even though out of stock when I ordered and in the middle of the covid 19 pandemic when everything’s taking understandably ages to arrive.I think this was ordered and arrived in less than 4 days ? ( bank holiday weekend too )

Got these for my 23 month old for Christmas & he loves them. The blocks are a perfect size for his little hands & the holes & laces are big enough that it's not too much of a struggle to thread them. Bright colours, different shapes, patterns & numbers make the blocks look lovely as well as fun. My only problem with this product isn't the beads themselves but with the packaging/storage. They come in a nice light wooden box but since it's not got a lid the box becomes redundant. Thankfully they fit perfectly inside his wooden activity cube so we do have somewhere for them but would be handier to have a lid for the box they come in.Great product, would recommend to any parent of a 2 year old who likes doing fiddly things with their hands. Will come in handy when they're older too, counting & making patterns.

Bright images and coloured threading cords to encourage hand and eye coordination in young children. The task also helps children learn that not all activities lead to quick results. It takes patience to thread the cords all the way around the outline of the various creatures but the look of satisfaction on our two year olds face when she's achieved it is lovely. As time goes on we will show her different ways to thread the cords to keep her interest and develop dexterity. These aren't something a child plays with for very long at a time but they are well worth persevering with. I dithered over the star rating and settled on a 4 because I so wish the little wooden boxes Melissa and Doug toyscome in had lids!

Purchased this as an Xmas gift for my three year old niece. I saw a similar gift in Mothercare, same make but, the blocks and colour were no where near as vivid as these. These are a lovely assortment of colours and shapes. Some with numbers. Two thick laces which makes it great as a sharing game. Melissa and doug gifts never dissapoint. This product would have received a 5***** rating if it wasn't for the fact that one of the blocks is damaged. It has been damaged through its packaging. I'm sure this was done prior to packing as the only other item in my delivery was a childs plastic boat. Very dissapointing as it's a Xmas gift so can't return or replace in time.

I absolutely love these! Bought these for my daughter to learn how to thread and develop fine manipulative skills and to also introduce colours into our play. The shapes are really well made and it’s great that it already comes with laces to use for threading. Vibrant colours keeps my daughter attracted to them and they are the perfect size for her to hold herself. They come in a little tray where all the pieces can be stored, unfortunately it doesn’t have a lid so sometimes can be a bit of a pain if little one gets them again. Overall though I would 100% recommend and they make a lovely present for a slightly older child.

Great colourful lacing beads, matching shapes, colours and incorporating numbers too. Bit annoying that there are 5 squares whereas there are 4 of each other shape but I guess it's a bonus one to fill the box.Typically of Melissa and Doug products though, this has NO LID!! One day someone I'm sure will read the many reviews on this issue and do something about this. However this is over come by the order of play, if you arrange shapes and colours etc, and build with them first you can make lacing them the final exercise, thus clearing them up and storing them away on the strings so they don't get lost!

2 year old daughter loves these beads. Great size so no risk of choking, but also great for little fingers. Her coordination is improving so well since using this. She doesn’t just thread the beads, sometimes she stack them into a tower, or puts them into piles according to colours or shapes, lots of fun to be had. Also love that it comes with 2 strings, because her 6 year old brother likes to join in too! The ONE complaint I have is why is there no lid for this wooden box!!! Would of made a great storage box if they had added a lid.

COST: Very ReasonableGOOD BITS:My son was struggling to learn how to tie his shoes for starting school last year. And we had tried using other methods to teach him but the shoe lace on this shoe is great. It's thick enough for her small hands to manage and within the first day of trying, he learned how to tie a shoe. A friend recommened this shoe to me and I recommend it to everybody I know.BAD BITS: I wish it had come with around the tree" directions but it didn't come with either.WOULD I RECOMMEND: 100%

Absolutely lovely. My two year old son loves threading with the well crafted, colourful beads and threads. It comes with two so we can do it together so he can match my patterns. It's a great activity for quiet time. It is fabulous for his hand eye coordination and he enjoys telling me the colours and shapes. The variety held his attention for a long time. He tends to play with it till I take it away or it's time to do some other things.

Gorgeous toy. Brilliant for perfecting fine motor skills, bought for my just turned 2 year olds and they've shown mild interest in it, but I think they'll really enjoying it more ove the next few months as they develop. They do enjoy using them to call the animal names which is brill. Would definitely recommend buying the wooden ones incase you have heavy handed toddlers like me (cardboard ones would not have lasted).

This wooden set is lovely toy. Great for hand eye co-ordination and also number recognition. Bought for my 2 and half year old daughter. She loves it. It is lovely and colourful which help child recognise colours also. However I find that blocks chip a bit when they hit the floor. I know toys are not made to last forever but was amazed how easily the paint came off. I would purchase again though as I like its concept.

The box contains five boards with five laces. Each board is wooden with a paper design stuck to it - cat, dog, rabbit, fish and tortoise. The laces are each long enough to reach the whole way round the board. Good quality product. The box is a bit of a waste though now the shrink-wrap is off as it has no lid so you can't really use it to store the boards. I would rather have had a useful cardboard box to store it in!

My little one and I love this lacing toy.Pros- vibrant colours and a beautiful wooded toy- numbers to 10- Good for fine motor skills- 2 laces provided so can be played with more than one childCons-sometimes it felt like a lot was going on with the design, I tried using it to teach colour but confused my toddler. If each piece was a block colour it would have been great.Overall, a lovely learning toy
