The panniers arrived today and I have to say that I'm really impressed at the quality. They are made from thick tarpaulin, with welded seams and heavy duty polyester fabric panels at the side, with an inner membrane. Although it doesn't look it from the pictures, the design features a roll-top closure mechanism, but with an additional cover for extra rain protection. I haven't tested it yet, but it all looks as though it should be completely waterproof. What I really like is that they have proper Kaul and Rixen fittings, which is the main difference between this and the slightly cheaper Montreal panniers and I would say that it is worth paying the extra few pounds for the additional security that these bring. They were certainly easy to fix to my rack, which is a Racktime Tour-it - I just needed to remove the inserts inside the hooks first. The only minor quibble is that these panniers don't come with integral shoulder straps, although there are rings on the sides if you want to buy straps, which seem to be available separately from the supplier. There is a rubber handle attached to the K&R top rail, which makes them pretty easy to carry even without the strap.Other nice little features are the reflective arrows and the loops on the sides to which lights can be attached. There is also a zipped inner pocket, which can be detached from its Velcro fixing, which is handy for stowing your wallet, keys and other items that you need to be able to find quickly.Further information on these panniers is available here: [...]

The picture does not do them justice. After checking out the quality of good bags in some shops, I can safely say that these are made from the waterproof material of good quality bags. I was disheartened to discover they did not fit on my pannier rack and tried to remove the inner part of the fixing only to discover that it was detachable. See the pictures with the blue clips. You can also see the reflective material in the photos. It is more than deep and enough to fit 2 A4 lever arch folders and leave room for some other things. I'm glad I bought the pair. One is enough for commuting and two will work well for touring.I also bought two straps to attach to the hoops on the sides although thehandle at the top seems to be sturdy enough if that's how you prefer to carry them.
