Restarted my piano playing after a gap of decades. I wasn't sure what level to dive into, and thought this seemed a reasonable midrange sort of instrument. Interestingly a friend has slightly cheaper Casio which was recommended to her and after playing my piano once decided to sell hers and trade up as the fell and action plus the tone of mine was so much better. In terms of bells and whistles this is restricted although there are a total of 30 voices. The basic piano is very much the strong point of these, with some harsher 'jazz' instruments and some Fender type sounds being decent. The organs sound generally OK except in some versions the bass gets oddly lost and the higher harmonics take over loosing the root. There is a bit more power in the on-instrument amp than in many competitors which makes it a nicer use alone instrument. There are two headphone sockets allowing teaching, and the ability to transpose if you want, plus a metronome. There are midi in and out sockets but no on instruments recording options. You can use two voices simultaneosuly but not by splitting the keyboard; each note uses a blend of the two voices (i.e. you can't play one voice with the left hand and another with the right) and there's no auto harmony type of thing. So.... This is a keyboard with a good action and feel, nice sounding basic piano, a few other voices if you want, decent amplication and connections, but no frills. Great if you simply want to sit and play, I love it!

Following on from it’s predecessor the SP-250, Korg’s engineers worked to reduce the weight of the unit, resulting in the RH-3 key action not being carries across to the SP-280. Instead the SP-280 uses Korg’s lessor NH key action. This may be a deal breaker for some players, But personally I quite like the feel of Korg’s Natural Hammer Key Action. This digital pianos speakers really shine, and could easily be used to perform in a large room. The tones sound even better when paired with an amplifier that can pull out more of the bass from the SP-280’s voices. The 30 supplied tones are very usable, but it is the mellow piano one that keeps drawing back to play. The SP-280 comes with a stand in the form of screw in legs, that offer a very stable platform, as well as a half damper pedal that can be upgraded to a 3 pedal unit (PU-2). It is also worth mentioning Korg offer a 5 year warranty of this instrument when you register it on their website. There is plenty of competition in this mid-range digital piano playing field from the likes of Casio, Roland, Yamaha and Kawai, I think the Korg stands it ground well offering a solid, loud, good sounding very playable package.
