Introduction:I bought this bottle to use while traveling (primarily airline travel). Note: Just remember to empty it before hitting the security line. The 16oz Klean Kanteen is a great bottle with a solid build, and most importantly, a really great lid. I wanted something with a trustworthy lid, because it travels inches away from my laptop/tablet/whatever else in my briefcase. I also love that it allows me to glare at all of the $4 water bottle drinking travelers with a bit more disdain. (I kid...)Build and Materials (brushed stainless variant):The majority of the bottle is finished in brushed stainless steel. The bottom inch of the bottle has a polished finish. The bottle features "kleen kanteen INSULATED" logos on each side. The cap is made from a matte finished black plastic that feels quite durable. There is a visible mold line in the plastic cap, but it is very thin and smooth. The inside of the lid has a stainless steel liner for insulation. The lid has subtle Kleen Kanteen logos embossed on each side.Insulation:The bottle does do a fine job of keeping my drink cool. I typically fill the bottle at drinking fountains, which are refrigerated to some extent. The water stays cool for long enough for me to drink it (I typically drink a bottle in about an hour or two. I've not done extensive testing with ice and timers, but I think this bottle will do a good job of keeping your drink cool for a reasonable amount of time.Weight:The bottle and lid together weigh 10.6 oz empty. Filled with water to the top of the bottle section (where the bottle begins to narrow for the lid), the bottle and lid weigh 1 lb 10 oz. It can hold a bit more water, but I'd consider this to be the average fill level for those not interested in risking a spill.Germ Alert:NEVER DRINK OUT OF HOTEL ROOM GLASSES. They are notoriously filthy, bring your own bottle and fill it in the lobby. Many hotel maids will actually wipe the used glasses out with their Windex'd rag when resetting a room. This certainly isn't the case in all hotels, but it isn't worth the risk in my opinion. The modern alternative - plastic wrapped plastic cups are just wasteful. Using your own refillable bottle provides you with peace of mind when it comes to both germs and staying green. Conclusion:This bottle will truly pay for itself in no time. The build quality is top-notch, and aside from the lid's threads losing a little of their grip after years of use, I can't imagine how one could wear it out.

First things first: I bought this item, it's not a 'honest review' type review.General: Wow! This is a wonderful piece of simple but elegant engineering. Entirely stainless (food grade) with that brushed finish which I personally prefer to the shiny. I don't know for sure but I believe brushed is easily to grip (this bottle is pretty big and wide) and I won't be as obsessive with fingermarks as I would be with a mirror finish item. The mouth is very wide so I don't advise drinking while walking. Ice cubes go in super easy if you want to keep your drink colder for longer.Lid: The lid is (non-BPA) plastic, very strong and rigid, with stainless inside so that when the bottle is closed there is no plastic touching the contents. The lid also houses a silicon seal ring which has a pull-tab to help remove it (nice touch!) for easy cleaning - no more poking a knife point into a gaps to get the seal out for cleaning! Technically because the silicon ring seals the lid tight a tiny bit of it may contact your drink inside - I don't know how to test this but it will be tiny and this is no different to any other leak-proof bottle as far as I know. There are currently 2 other lids that fit this - the cafe lid (may be easier to drink out of on-the-move) and a flat lid with a flip D-cup ring. The website says the bottle is compatible with backcountry water filters.Safety: Obviously this is not designed for hot drinks/soup as it's not a vacuum flask but you could put cold soup (or whatever) in to heat up at your destination. Klean Kanteen say you can boil water ("at a pinch" AKA survival) in this particular bottle (wide mouth, brushed finish, non-vac) over a camp stove so long as the lid is off but that will effect the finish - that would be a shame, this bottle is sexy! This bottle has no BPA, no aluminium, no liners, no paint. You can use it for acidic fruit juices, milk and alcohol. It is dishwasher safe but not freezer or microwave safe. Check out the FAQ on Klean Kanteen's website.Notes: I'd prefer chunky ridges on the lid for opening/closing but having said that I have not struggled and you do not need to screw it on super tight. Also the large hoop on the lid could be utilised if you struggled. But that's a really minor point. The Tatonka Stainless Steel mug fits over this very nicely indeed

My boyfriend has had a 20 oz bottle for ~a year and he talks about how wonderful it is all the time and he's always telling me I need one. I decided to finally buy my own (mainly so he would shut up about it). I do like it and I'm mostly happy with the purchase.Pros:-It keeps my water pretty cold. Last weekend I left it in my car in direct sunlight (on a warm day in Texas) for a few hours and there was still ice in it when I got back. Also, I have a black canteen so it's most likely to absorb heat of all the canteen color options. The insulation is obviously pretty robust if it kept my ice water icy in those conditions.-I like the rounded inside of the container. It's much easier to clean than other canteens I've owned. Also the stainless steel gets less gross than plastic if you keep some liquid in it for too long.Cons:-I told myself that I wouldn't buy products from companies that have stupid misspelled names. I hate that they've changed the Cs in clean and canteen to Ks for no reason. I know this might seem like a silly complaint, but I have a hard time trusting the quality of a product from a company that names itself with misspelled words. This is why I won't get my car fixed at Key Auto Werks and why I won't take my children to a daycare called The Kids Klub (and why I told myself I wouldn't buy a canteen from Klean Kanteen...).-After filling the canteen up and screwing the top on, water will often get caught in the ridges at the top and then it will leak out. A surprisingly large amount usually leaks out. I've found that leaving a bit of space at the top when filling it up fixes this problem for the most part.-I have a hard time screwing the top on correctly. It usually takes a few tries for the thread to catch. It helps to set the canteen down on some surface when screwing the top on rather than holding it. Even though this is only a few seconds wasted, it's still pretty annoying.-It's a little heavier than I'd like it to be; however, I'd rather it be slightly heavy stainless steel than lighter plastic.I gave this product 4 stars because I like it and would recommend it to others, but I'm not nearly as obsessed with it as my boyfriend is and I think the cap could be improved. It's unfortunately too late to improve the name of the company...

I tested the insulation on this bottle as soon as I received it and had the following results, which I'm pretty satisfied with:COLD: Half filled with ice, half with tap water at room temperature. Left the bottle outdoors in my balcony, being hit by direct sunlight in the middle of the Texas summer. The bottle was piping-hot to the touch on the outside and kept the water nice and cool for several hours. The thermometer registered the following temperatures:- Water temperature at start time: 40F; room temperature: 77F- Water temperature after 1 hr: 35F; outdoor temperature: 100F- Water temperature after 2 hrs: 40F; outdoor temperature: 102F- Water temperature after 3 hrs: 40F; outdoor temperature: 95F- Water temperature after 4 hrs: 40F; outdoor temperature: 95F,the last of the ice was melting down by now.- Water temperature after 6 hrs: 45F; outdoor temperature: 90F- Water temperature after 7 hrs: 48F; outdoor temperature: 77F.HOT: I boiled 16oz of water, poured them into the bottle and closed it after taking the temperature. Left the bottle indoors at 77F all day with the following results:- Water temperature at start time: 200F- Water temperature after 1 hr: 181F- Water temperature after 2 hrs: 165F- Water temperature after 3 hrs: 155F- Water temperature after 4 hrs: 145F- Water temperature after 5 hrs: 139F- Water temperature after 6 hrs: 132F- Water temperature after 7 hrs: 128F- Water temperature after 8 hrs: 122F- Water temperature after 9 hrs: 115FI'm very satisfied with this. For most practical purposes these temperatures were exactly what I was hoping for when I got this bottle, maybe even a little more than I was expecting! I could still drink ice-cold water after 4 hours, and chilled water after 7 hours even with the sun hitting the bottle directly all day on a day with an average temperature of 97F.I could also drink a hot beverage up to 5 hrs later, and even enjoy a warm-ish drink about 8 hours after having poured it at boiling temperature. Remember the hot test was done indoors with room temperature of 77F. Results might be different in colder climates, but we don't get many snow days in Texas :)

I used to go through so many plastic water bottles. I tried to refill them as often as possible but still I used plenty. Not only did I want to stop the waste, but I wanted to switch to filtered water. I made the switch to filtered first and found that keeping a glass of ice water on my desk was really annoying; the condensation left little puddles of water everywhere. I started using a coaster and after a week it got moldy!Enter the Klean Kanteen.Made of food grade stainless steel, it's totally safe and I can stop worrying about the leeching of plastic. There are small amount of plastic in the cap that come in contact with the insides - as well as the gasket which is made of food grade silicon.I tend to keep the kanteen upright so no liquid is coming in contact with the plastic/silicone anyways. If it does, it's not for long. Here's the direct quote from customer service:"The caps for our insulated and wide mouth kanteens are made of bpa and phthalates free polypropylene #5, high quality, 18/8 food grade stainless steel, and the gasket is made of food grade silicone."I now carry my kanteen with me everywhere. I keep it at my desk, by my bed, take it to the gym, work, shopping, leave it in the car when I go somewhere, etc. The insulation is amazing - if you fill it with ice water, the ice won't melt for about 24 hours. Even then, it's still ice cold. There is almost no condensation whatsoever - zero when inside - just a little if I'm out in the hot sun and there's a big time temperature gradient. At my desk it is 100% free of sweat/condensation.I find it's durable - though a little prone to dings and dents - but that's hardly a problem for me. I've really grown to like the little loop on the lid - it's so easy to just scoop it up with a finger or two and be completely sure of my hold on it.I like it so much I actually bought a second one. I now use one for 24 hours then clean it and leave it to dry.

I juice fruits and vegetables, and my existing Kleen Kanteen 40oz stainless steel bottles with 3.0 sport caps weren't ideal for carrying the juice as the cap fouled up easily.I'll break this review into several parts:Construction: Like my two Kleen Kanteen 40oz bottles, this 64oz is made with food grade stainless steel, and it shows. It looks and feels solidly built. It has a wide mouth for easy pouring, which is a huge plus. I'm fairly confident the bottle can survive being bounced around on hiking trips without puncturing. My 40ozs have a few dents and chips, but thats about it. The fact that it's stainless steel means it won't leech into any liquids it carries, which plastic bottles will do,and its extremely durable and easy to clean. The loop cap is easy to screw on and off, even if its mucked up with juice matter. One note: This is NOT a Thermos. It cannot keep hot beverages hot. Kleen Kanteen makes special insulated bottles for that.Cleaning: Cleaning the 64oz is not hard, the wide mouth makes it easy to get a brush in to clean it. The cap and bottle are both dishwasher safe, though I would put it in the top rack to be safe.Capacity: Its 64 ounces, or roughly 1.89 liters. Its more than enough to hold a day's worth of juice or any other liquids I care to put in it. It's the largest Kleen Kanteen by far (that I know of), though height wise, its actually smaller than the 40oz Kleen Kanteen. It does however have a greater circumference.Shipping: Shipping was fast and prompt (Ordered it on Friday, got it that Sunday). It was wrapped with care in bubble wrap. The seller ThinkFast did an excellent job overall shipping it out. Would definitely buy from again.Overall: I give this bottle 5 stars. I love Kleen Kanteen, both for the quality of their bottles and their environmental friendliness. I have saved a lot of money not buying new plastic bottles, and I am very happy with my 64oz bottle.

This is a review of the 40oz / 1182ml Wide Klean KanteenThese bottles are great. Lightweight, compact, excellent quality and materials. The interior of the supplied cap is 18/8 steel (meaning the full interior of the bottle is 100% stainless steel). Easy to clean and very very tough. These bottles, in various sizes, accompanied me through Mexico from the Pacific coast to the Atlantic and also while touring round Europe on my bicycle! Lovely piece of kit. When I'm not cycling around like a nutcase, I use them to store used cooking oil in the fridge!!! The standard cap is fully leak-proof, although one of the optional caps is not (the Café Cap).Incidentally,a couple of other reviews/comments have suggested that using this bottle on a fire or stove may breach the warranty. This is incorrect. This is what Klean Kanteen says:"...single-walled Kanteen® Classic and Wide bottles with the Brushed Stainless finish can be placed on a fire or a stove as long as you take the cap off. Do not do this with a colored bottle, as it will damage the paint."Just don't leave the cap on or do this with one of the insulated bottles, as you could create something quite explosive and dangerous due to pressure build-up, as well as voiding your warranty. So, just to reiterate, it is fine to use the single-walled stainless bottle over an open fire as long as you remove the cap first.Specification for 40oz (1182ml) capacity bottle:Height without cap - 220mmHeight with cap - 255mmDiameter - 89mmWeight without cap - 209gWeight of supplied cap (optional caps vary) - 46gJust in case the penny has not yet dropped, I absolutely love these bottles. Thoroughly recommended and great value in my opinion.

I have to admit, I'm on my second one of these. I finally abused the first one I had enough that it formed a stress fracture in the stainless steel and sprang a small leak. This, I must stress, is my fault, and the result of over a year of extremely hard use and abuse. I've boiled water in this over the campfire, used it as a makeshift hammer, carried in in my backpack on many hiking trips where it's been dropped while full of water on jagged granite rocks and after all that it was fine. What finally made it give out was pouring boiling water into it, pouring it out, and immediately pouring ice water into it. If you have one of these, I would recommend not doing this. However, this thing is awesome, and I would always recommend a stainless steel water container over a plastic one because of the ability it gives you to purify water by boiling, or withstanding infinitely more pasteurizations of water than a plastic bottle could dream of.*UPDATE*I had never thrown away my first Kleen Kanteen, largely for sentimental reasons since it was a gift to me. One afternoon on a whim I decided to try to fix it. I put a TON of solder flux paste around the stress fracture and placed the whole Bottle in a large vice and heated it up from the inside with a blowtorch until it was hot enough to melt (lead-free) plumbing solder. I filled up the stress fracture with solder, brushed off the excess, let it cool, and now it's as good as new. So, I now have two Kleen Kanteens. You could never try that kind of repair with most other bottles, whether they be plastic, or even plastic lined metal bottles. I'd give this an extra star if I could just because it can be repaired so easily.

I've found this bottle perfect for my needs over the last 3 months. I needed a metal bottle that could take a moderate beating, and was easy to clean and inspect inside (since I find smaller necked bottles harder to look into and clean).Cleaning: The water inside tastes fresh and to my knowledge is only every in contact with the stainless steel of the bottle, with even the cap having a steel top inside of the rubber waterproofing ring so that no plastic touches your water. The bottle is very well designed for cleanliness, with a continuous steel wall all the way around except for a seam at the bottom of the screw on portion, which is very positioned for easy cleaning and away from the water. The rubber sealing ring has a large tab allowing easy pulling out for cleaning.Hardwearing: The steel bottle, being steel, is also quite hardwearing and I am happy with its structural integrity even after a few knocks, though the bottle is purely one thin layer of steel so your mileage may vary.Points to consider: while this bottle is perfect for my needs, the following may be concerns for those who are more 50/50:1. The wide mouth means that there is always room in the mouthpiece for water to slosh out of the bottle when drinking - not great for drinking while running or driving2. The steel nature of the bottle means it is not insulated - hot drinks will make the bottle very hot and can burn you through the steel, and cold drinks can cause condensation if they are very cold3. Check the dimensions of the bottle - it is quite big!

Let the health gurus continue to debate how much water we 'need.' No matter what they say, I like having plenty of water with me, but I hate when it tastes like chlorine (from the tap at my job) or toxic plastic (from plastic water bottles). So stainless steel or glass are the ways to go. Glass is cheap - I used recycled 1-gallon apple cider jugs for years, but I also broke a few of them in dramatic and potentially dangerous events. So, steel from now on.Now I carry two sixty-four ounce Klean Kanteen Wide Mouth Bottle with Stainless Loop Caps. Have had them for a few weeks. They seem durable enough and don't leak through the cap, even when laying down. The one big thing I DON'T like about them is the new lip design. If you have used the older Klean Kanteen bottles, you know that the lip of the mouth on these older bottles is rolled steel, creating a rounded, friendly edge. These large bottles have a sharper edge of folded steel at their opening. This would be uncomfortable to drink out of. However, I am using the 64 oz. Klean Kanteen Wide Mouth Bottles mostly for water transport, and drinking out of a smaller 22 oz stainless water bottle that has the older rolled steel mouth lip design. The smaller bottle is easier to grip, so I wind up just refilling it from the large bottles. The large Klean Kanteen Wide Mouth Bottles are easy to pour from, so the sharper edge of folded steel is not a deal-breaker for me.

I only review the items that rank as best in their class and/or those that need just a couple of minor tweaks to become one of the best. This is one of those products. I guess my hope is that this feedback will find its way to the manufacture through their lurkers and help us all get a better product, as they update their lines.I was truly amazed to find that I could pour myself a cup of coffee on a cold day and leave the last 1/2 in your vehicle when I went into work and come out 8 hours later to a hot cup of fresh tasting coffee. Albeit, not boiling hot on the coldest of days. But, still amazing for such a compact, lightweight, and affordable solution for enjoying your favorite hot beverage on the go.The only things that they need to work on are:1.They need to include the cafe' lid with the cup at a price less than the $6-8 that they get for it separately. These cups aren't cheap and they are useless without the lid to drink from.2. They need to make the aforementioned cafe' lid a "spill proof" lid. Especially with the larger versions of this cup, they do get tipped from time to time and it wouldn't be that hard to make a better seal for them. After all, they spin shut and then leak like a sieve when tipped? I guess I could live with a $6-8 lid that sealed tightly... If they can't do both affordably.Fix those two issues and you will have the best insulated travel cup out there Klean Kanteen!

Klean Kanteen is really the name brand of insulated bottles. Personally, I don't really like their spelling of "Klean" as I generally hate it when companies butcher the English language but aside from that these bottles are really fantastic. As others have pointed out, you can leave this bottle filled with ice in your car in the summer and after an entire day the bottle with still have ice in it. It's really great. I put hot coffee in mine when I leave for work and then drink my coffee about 2 hours later and it's hot as it was out of the carafe. These bottles (I have 3 of them) will get scratched and possibly dinged up if you drop them but other than the cosmetic wear they will still function like a boss for years and years.I have a black one that looks horrible but it keeps my ice cold so I don't care. These are also easy to clean and easy to pour liquids into thanks to the wide mouth. I like to clean them by putting water and a bit of soap and then putting the lid on and shaking it like a Polaroid picture then rinsing but you could probably get a sponge in there too if you wanted. Also, I paid the full (expensive) price for this thing. In other words, this isn't one of THOSE 5-star reviews where I got a discount or got it for free... nope, I paid big bucks so this is a real, unbiased, I didn't even get a T-shirt for this review, Review.

This is a great bottle. I see all the bad reviews about the smell. Look folks, you should wash anything you buy too eat or drink from before using it. This does smell like machine oil when you get it. I simply washed it a few times with some dawn soap, and then used it. After about a week the smell is completely gone.By the way, after I washed it the first few times before using it...i still could smell the oil, but I couldn't taste it. Now after a few weeks the smell is completely gone.Lets talk about the lid. It is a easy to open lid, and it does not leak at all... At least on mine. I screw it on, and it stays leak free. I see a lot of complaints here about that, but I haven't seen the leaking on mine.Lets us touch on build quality...i also see people denting theirs. Well, sure... It is stainless steel... They didn't make it to be dent proof... If they did, it would weigh 10 pounds empty. I am a truck driver, and I dropped mine from my cab... Maybe 5 feet onto a gravel lot. It did not dent at all, not even a scratch. Though mind you, it was almost empty, so it was a lot lighter than a full one. Overall... Seems like a tough build, and I am not too worried about denting it from a fall, though just in case, I do try to not do it, as I am sure it is possible.Overall, I would buy again for sure. Tough, leak free, and holds 64oz!

After hearing horror stories about plastic water bottles leaking plastic chemicals into the water I wanted to get a steel water bottle. Unfortunately the bottle I got had a plastic top and was too small, so after some deliberation I decided to get this. The first thing I noticed about this thing is that's it's big, the dimensions are 9.125" H x 4.5" W. Even with my little girly hands I can still hold this one handed but due to its weight can be a strain when full holding one handed for a long time. The top is plastic but the part of the top that comes in contact with the water is metal. If you don't like the top there are replacement tops which I know nothing about. For some reason I thought the wide mouth would cause the bottle's contents to splash into my face when taking a sip,but this has not happened and in fact makes it easier to clean and put ice cubes inside. There is no insulation so the contents warm/cool to room temperature quickly but Klean Kanteen do make insulated bottles as well.Despite its large size, it still just about fits in the water bottle holder on my rucksack but only if the rucksack is not stuffed to the max. There seems to be a slight strange smell when opening the bottle, I am not sure what is going on here.It is durable, well made, does not leak water and I am happy with it but be warned it's big.

There is just NOTHING better than a Klean Kanteen. For real. I have been buying them for a couple of years, and my only regret is that I am just now getting around to reviewing the product. I always buy this model....haven't "ventured out" to try any of the other models yet. But here's what happened. Every year, the first week in September, I attend a festival in Joshua Tree, California for 5 days. The temperature, as you can imagine, is beyond stifling hot. It is the desert, and the temps reach up to the mid 100s. After the first couple of years of attending that festival, I realized I needed to find a REALLY well insulated water bottle. I was getting sick and tired of drinking lukewarm (sometimes even hot)water out of my water bottle in the 105 degree heat. I researched bottles online and read reviews, and decided to try the Klean Kanteen Wide Insulated Bottle. What a Godsend! (My friends now use them thanks to my recommendations!). I bring it everywhere with me, but when I go to my festival in the desert every year and the temps reach 105 degrees, I get to drink ICE COLD WATER all day. There have been many times when I've left water in the bottle and it was still ice cold WITH ice cubes the next day. Nothing better out there than Klean Kanteen. My gradeschool kids and my husband each have their own, too.
