As a photographer who started off in the stone age (film , cameras which required diails turned to select shutter speed, lenses that needed aperture setting and - gasp - even focussing .... ) I still have a collection of filters, hardly even used these days when photoshop can do most of the corrections needed. But , my polariser was an old linear one, and messed up the metering in both my SLR and bridge cameras.Eventually I capitulated and decided to buy a circular polariser which would be OK with the digital camera meters. but which one ? Well, not one that cost more than my second hand Nikon D40 did, that would be silly ! But then the raft of sub £10 unknown name filters didn't inspire me with confidence, screwing a possibly poor quality lump of glass on the front of a lens that cost a couple of hundred pounds would be equally silly. So, somewhere in the middle , not too cheap, not too expensive . Like Goldilocks' porridge, the Hoya one was just right: a very reputable specialist maker , a slim black metal ring, glass with coated (but not multi-coated, that costs much more ) surfaces. When at the correct angle to the sun ( not just by rotating the filter, but also by where you are facing ) blue skies are bluer, clouds are fluffier ( because they show up better against the sky) water is darker, just like my old linear pol. See my two photos, same scene taken within moments of each other. The darker blue sky shot is with the polariser.Be aware that the sky darkening effect caused by a polarising filter may not be uniform over the whole of an image if you use a very wide angle lens, it's not a fault of the filter, but to do with the angle of the light from the sun and the enormous angle of light that a very wide lens collects. That's physics, you can't get round it with a different make of polarising filter. Vignetting (darker corners in an image due to the metal ring protruding into the field of the lens) is a different problem, but this filter is quite slim, I saw no vignetting with an 18mm (crop sensor, so full sensor 27mm ) lens. In fact the metal ring is so slim that if, like me, you leave a protective filter on all your lenses (and leave the lens cap at home) you may find it difficult to take the pol. filter off without removing the protecting one by accident ... in which case either get a pair of something like these iGadgitz Xtra Camera Filter Lens Wrench Kit [ 49, 52, 55, 58mm ] 2 Pack of a size suitable for your filters, or pick up a couple of those nice red rubber bands the postie drops on the pavement to give you a better grip !My only negative is that filters these days seem to be suppied in boxes suitable for hanging display in shops, rather than the good old tough faceted two piece screw together round boxes which you could slip nicely in your pocket and which protect the filter beautifully. Happily I have a few old ones spare !

Ok so I paid just a few pounds more for the slim profile version of this Hoya PL-CIR filter as opposed to the usual frame unit. These filters are enthusiast grade rather than the silly money professional filters but I have used this grade of filter since starting out with transparency film 35 years ago. Always a great filter to have in your kit bag for colour and monochrome work to make skies more blue and clouds with contrast. An essential item for the landscaper and perhaps for wildlife shots as well. The only downside with using these on todays MFT cameras is that the lens hoods rarely have a filter window access to rotate the filter when in situ and they can be a bit of fiddle to rotate when you have the hood in place but once you get used to this, you will get a lot of creative joy. I was using my 52mm filter with s step down ring to 46mm but I thought that now was the time to have the correct size for my front element so I could still have my bayonet fitting hood on to control lens glare. Worth every penny, well made and with a silky rotation.

Seems fine to me. No obvious problems such as grading differences or interference patterns that you might expect when looking at the pixel level on a 25MB TIFF image. A firm smooth control of rotation between the outer and inner ring. Not 4 stars as I can feel a slight 'gratiness' when putting the filter on the lens, in spite of being very careful to remove any dust on the lens screw fitting and this filter. This could make it hard to remove as I found when I must have tightened it just that bit too much. However, it still unscrewed and is the correct size as stated. Not unimportant. All in all, it does what I need at a fraction of the price of a top end professional filter.I feel a bit mean about only giving 4 stars, but I do not have a top end PL - circular filter of this size to compare it with, which might give better results, also the gratiness issue led to me slightly over tightening when first attaching the filter. My excuse is, I didn't want the inner layer to revolve while adjusting the outer revolving layer.

Good polarizer filters make a lot of difference and add an extra dimension to your photography. I use to use a lot with film cameras many years ago and wanted one for a mirrorless digital. I tried a cheaper alternative from a company I hadn't heard of before and the results were pointless. Hoya have been making filters for many years and I use to use them and I should of ordered one from them first time. Having it on my camera has made photography fun again and when shooting landscapes with big skys or coastal shots with ocean in the circular polarizer gives so much control and extra depth to my images. Highly recommend and would say always use 'proper'companies for anything going in front of your sensor.

Like Hoya, like photographic filter. some are delighted, others will complain. It's not bad, well, it's minimal, works nicely with light, good sharpness, minimal or zero image softening. Big, correct glare reduction. Not just for landscape. For the survey writer: do you know that cpl filters are used for product photography - thanks to it you can see the interior of the car when you take a photo through the car window, such an example. Or you can reduce glare from the surface you are photographing - for example taps.wrong question in the survey, it gives wrong product classification.

I bought this product in both the 52mm and 58mm sizes, at first I wasn't the most happy as the 58 was struggling to screw onto my lens and it felt as though the threads were going to snap so the durability may not be perfect but other than that I haven't had a single issue. After finally getting to grips with the filters they work amazingly and I couldn't be happier. Although I was apprehensive about the price, especially with their being cheaper options available, I wouldn't swap them for anything else now they go everywhere with me. They're Definately worth a buy.

It does what it's supposed to do. Nothing spectacular, but it's a good value for money and I enjoy using it for both landscape and product photography with my 50 mm lens. You can't go wrong with Hoya.I must say the first lens I got was faulty, with some sort of crack or scratch runing through the core of the glass even though it was a new, packed product. Utterly weird and clearly a manufacturing error. Return and exchange was no hassle and I had a new filter in my hands the next day - exactly what I like about Amazon.

Great filter, works well on water to remove the glare. Have tested it a couple of times. You have to ensure (for best results) that the camera is pointing to a 90 degree angle to the sun for maximum effect. Nice packaging and comes in a protective case. Can be a little fiddly to remove as it rotates but if you dont over tighten it or (like me) have a lens wrench it makes it a lot easier. Also has a front thread for adding nd filters etc.

I have used this filter for over one hundred or so shots and it delivers good results as one would expect form this make. There is no evidence of vignetting at corners but this might be difficult for me to evaluate as it is being used only on a CANON 100-400 L series telephoto zoom: is it possible that vignetting is likely with shorter lens? I cannot comment on this as I have not tried it on any other lens.

Lovely filter from Hoya, great price considering what other manufacturers are charging. Crystal clear with great effect on colours especially for the sky. Can be a bit tight and tough trying to get the filter off the lens so maybe try running a pencil around the thread of the filter before using. The graphite of the pencil makes it a little bit easier to loosen the filter after using.

Not a lot to say about Hoya that hasn't been said before. I've always used them. The polaroid filter works well with sky \ landscape or seascape shots to give skies deep blues and avoid the washed out look on bright sunny days. I've used the filter when "rock-pooling" to take photos of the various critters that lurk in them and again the filter gives good clarity.

Filter seems to be of a high quality. Screws on and off my 62 mm lens thread with no issues. This is my first PL filter and it took a little getting used to. However I am now finding that it can make a significant difference in the right circumstances.I have also found it useful as a basic ND filter as it appears to drop the light by roughly a Stop I'd guess.

Lay the camera on its back when you attach the filter. This makes it much easier to locate it properly. As soon as the filter starts to tighten I stop! this makes it easier to unscrew. Make sure when adjusting the filter you rotate it in a clockwise direction so that there is no chance of it coming off. This filter works very well and is a quality piece of kit

I have had better CPLs but this was good value for money, reasonably effective and fairly slim for use with shorter focal length lenses (works fine with my 16mm). Not much to grip as a result so you may need a little help to take it off and haven’t had it long enough to add much about it’s durability thou it feels reasonably well made.

Excellent polariser filter. I am using it with my 25mm Olympus Mft lense and GH5s and the images and videos I am getting since I have been using it are awesome. Hoya are a trusted and excellent brand and for the price this is excellent value. The only negative, is like some other reviewers have said, don’t put it on too tight ??⛩
