You want a circular polarizing filter. This kind of filter removes a lot of reflections, softens the hard midday light in your photos and improves contrast. It makes colors pop especially the blue sky will suddenly look gorgeous but it will also make grass and leafes look greener and more "juicy". When shooting pictures of water, fx the ocean, the surface will suddenly be transparent instead of a shiny blank surface, and you will be able to see either whats below the surface or a beautiful deep blue color. Picture of any item with reflections from light can be magically improved, as it removes the reflections in many cases.Be advised though, it does reduce the amount of light that reaches the sensor in the camera,so you should remove the filter in low light situations and if you need to take pictures of moving objects (sports, kids). Not a great filter for street photography early or late in the daye but fabolous for holidays. This particular filter from Hoya I have mounted on a Sony NEX-5N 18-55 kit lens, it is a tiny filter that works as advertized.I you havent seen a circular polarizer in action, you should buy or borrow one. Chances are, you will keep it and love it.

I have just purchased the 67mm version of this filter and used it over the weekend. The claimed (less) light reduction of 25% is indeed correct compared to a more typical PL filter strength. In fact there were circumstances where more than 25% improvement occurred. I would keep this filter on the lens for general walkabout shooting with mixed daylight conditions (sunshine and cloud) or where water reflections come into play. For extremely bright conditions I would probably revert to a more dense (standard) PL filter and of course for low light (nighttime) situations remove the HRT altogether (or attach a standard UV filter for lens protection). So the filter behaves exactly as described but isstill primarily a PL filter which can be used all day long in mixed lighting scenarios.I only rated this as a 3 for VFM because I noted that the 67mm version costs more than the bigger versions. Obviously the pricing is tailored to the demand and I presume 67mm is currently very popular. Seems a bit unfair that we have to pay more for less though. I did not score durability because have not used it for very long.

Have been using this flter on my X100 for some weeks, have found it highly responsive in the graduation from full to minimal polarisation. The filter is not so dense as a standard CP filter giving at least a 1/3 rd of a stop of additional exposure, this also helps when viewing the scene. Not found any significant colour bias with this filter, if anything shots are slightly warm although this may be the effect of combining the CP element with a UV glass. Some say that a UV filter is unnecessary with digital cameras, but living by the sea where UV tends to be quite high I find that a UV filter does warm the print slightly when contrasted with one taken without which can have a distinct blue/hazy tinge.Filter was good price too, less than half what I've paid for a standard CP filter in the past, think I will now be looking to buy one for my SLR.

I enjoy photography and looking at my efforts but by no means do i actually know what I'm doing to any depth. However since using this filter I have noticed a more "professional" look to my outdoor photos which can't be a bad thing and if nothing else its protecting a rather expensive 18-200mm Nikkor lens from scratches etc.Its a solid lens with a metal ring that feels like it would last for years, so I'm happy with my purchase and would certainly buy another Hoya filter if I was to purchase another lens.

Great quality as I have always had from Hoya. I've been buying their filters for almost 30 years, since I got my first SLR camera, Minolta's ground breaking 7000. I now use a SONY A77, so still use my old Minolta lenses which still have those Hoya filters fitted.I've recently added a Sigma EX 10-20mm lens and this 82mm Circ. Polarizing filter is for that. At £33 it isn't cheap but the quality is superb, just as I have always had from Hoya.

As my first polarizing / UV filter it to me a little while to get used to however the difference is night and day over large areas of landscape and the effect on a sunny day to the blue sky / clouds makes the colour really come out. Not yet tested with reflections etc but assume it will work as intended. No issues with taking it off as I was careful not to screw on too tightly. Great price also

I bought this Hoya 55mm Filter to add to my Sony HX400V Bridge Camera. Fitting was easy as is removal. My impression is that this filter has really helped to improve contrast and reduce overexposure in some circumstances, particularly with landscape shots. As a result of the improved colour balance, many shots actually look more detailed and natural making this filter a worthwhile addition.

unobtrusive and effective ..negligable impact on light transmission.... remember tho that as its circularly polarised ..you can rotate the outer ring to change the effect when taking pictures ..point it at a led TV and twist the ring and you will get the idea

I have fitted this in place of a conventional UV and because of the higher light transmission of this filter I sometimes forget that I am using a polarizer and to adjust it for best effect.

I Find that Hoya filters offer good quality at a reasonable price. The Hoya 62mm Circular Polarizing and UV HRT Screw-in Filter is no exception!

Good build and rotates easily. Works fine in all respects. I would recommend this item to other users on a budget.
