Well as an economy UV Filter there's not much to expect, I usually buy Hoya filters but as these are just to add some protection I did not see the point in spending twice the price. Well that is until I unpacked the filter first things first the filter does come in a hard shell filter flip top plastic box. Secondly the filter is as far as I can tell is very secure in side it's bezel ( the metal ring, it's frame ) there's no rattle of the lens when it's shaken. So as far as that I'm happy this means that once fitted, No dust should get past the filter on to my lens glass. The down side I have noticed, and this is on two different size filters I have bought from the same range and maker,Is that the threads are not smooth at all, By this I mean when you come to screw the filter on to the lens the action is very rough. Which also means that removing the filter is also tough, as when you come to unscrew the filter it's just like unscrewing a dry nut on a dry bolt, And don't forget there is no lubrication on these very fine threads, So to remove the filter can take a bit of effort. Unlike the more expensive filters I have which have very smooth silky fine threads, and are very easy to add to and remove from the lens. But don't let this put you off if all you want is a bit of protection for you're expensive lens, then really this filter does the job and for the price it does it very well. But if you're going to be adding and removing filters a lot, Then I suggest you pay the extra and buy a more expensive filter as it will save you time and frustration.Last but not lest the UV aspect of the filter, I noticed no difference with or with out the filter.

I will be using this for my Canon SX50 HS for the same reason most will be; to protect the lens.It does the trick and the shots come out near identical. For the price it's good. There are some added reflections in some cases but because its mounted into an adaptor and not the camera; I can easily take it off if I need to in one motion. If you want less reflections I guess you have to pay more! From the comments:iZian says:I took 50 photos in 4 light conditions to compare the use of a UV filter to no filter and found almost no difference in the resulting image. The Canon sensor doesn't appear to be succeptable to UV.For a more professional shot get a more expensive version of this; less lens flare.Iprefer no filter at all if I don't need protection.Dim says:It's a difficult one in term of digital cameras these days.iZian says:Indeed. I was looking for protection and, at the same price as the protection filters, this made sense.Since you have the same camera as me I can tell you that you might notice a difference in situations where there is bright sunlight and heavy shadows; but with a filter this cheap you'll notice lens flare before that difference.Make sure you have an adaptor though! I forgot when I got mine; I thought this 67mm wasn't going to fit and was correct. Official ones are metal and you can get plastic one for much cheaper and it does the job.I'll update my review with this info so maybe more people will find it helpful.Oh and also; if you do end up using this for protection; it will obscure a very small but noticeable part if the flash at the bottom of the image if you are shooting at full wide angle.

I bought this Hama 77mm UV filter primarily to protect an extremely expensive lens. I read the reviews about this filter and there were a number that didn't like it to say the least. In any event, the filter cost under a tenner so I thought I would give it a try. I took some shots of the type of objects that other reviewers said resulted in poor image quality with the filter fitted. I must admit, that as far as I was concened, I found no problems whatsoever with the filter either mechanically or photographically: I was unable to reproduce those faults / complaints mentioned in other reviews using my Canon camera. However, I should add that one thing that would not be the same is the lighting conditions.(I would have to take a photo at the same place / time as other reviewers for that to happen)Regarding The UV filtering effect: I think the experts in photography generally agree that the UV effect for improving photo's is negligible. For those thinking of dealing with refelection problems, I think you need to be thinking about buying a polarising filter but do your own research and check.

First, the filter. It fitted perfectly, and does what it says on the box, so no complaints about that.Next, the delivery.Despite being in a rigid plastic case, placed inside stiff plastic packaging, this item was then placed in a 23 x 16 x 23 cm box, with lots of crumpled paper as padding, for delivery. I was expecting it to be in a padded envelope which would have fitted through my letterbox. On top of this it arrived 2 days after it's expected delivery date (which was already 2 days after the arrival of the lens ordered at the same time). We were lucky that someone was in when the item was delivered, half an hour later and the item would have been returned to the Royal Mail delivery office for me to collect. This item was sent by Royal Mail 24,which Royal Mail claim to aim for next day delivery, but without a tracking facility. The item was shown as 'Dispatched' two days before it's expected delivery date, so I'm not sure what went wrong here.

I brought this bearing in mind the maker's name was known to me since my early photo taking days - Cliff Richard was about then and was still singing... - and its been brilliant, okay a short of matt finish is you wanner be picky about it! - no, it does what its says is does on the box and regardless of if you own a 'status symbol' camera or something you REALLY use and not bore folks with of how you have more money than sense which made you buy it to impress the demented or have to read the manual to find out how to switch the current trend setting device/bauble (as in camera..), this could help you.I brought it to bung on the front of my lens to protect the actual glass element as well as perform the task its made for - if you have to ask what it does, you don't need it.Here endeth my review and if its inspired you, you don't get out much!Bottom line, it works and is reasonable priced!

This filter came as a surprise as it was less expensive than several others in considerably smaller sizes also recently purchased. Valuable as physical protection for larger diameter lenses, which also tend to be relatively expensive, considerably more so that the cost of this. The filter also serves to reduce the effects of excess UV radiation, to which camera sensors are very sensitive. It can improve colour rendition and eliminate the blue overall haze seen especially in summer months.A worthwhile purchase.

I purchased this UV Filter as a lens protector and I have given it a 4 star because it was a good one. The only trouble was that it did not fit my lens! I bought it because I had just purchased a Canon PowerShot SX50 HS camera and the blurb said "people who bought this camera also bought" etc, etc. But it was too large. The blurb still says this. I had to return it and was charged about £4.00 for postage. Not the end of the world but it's the principle that counts.

Received well on time and nicely packaged in the same box as the DouTop Memory Card Case. The filter is how happily on permanant attachment to my camera lens to help protect it's front element from any nasty scratches. There are no adverse colour casts from this filter, it is completely clear and I am happy with the results. It also accepts my filter holder on the front of it, so I can use other filters as necessary. A great product for a sensible price.

I own several Hama UV filters for various sized lenses. Provides valuable protection to your camera lens from dust, scratches and knocks. Also prevents my mucky finger prints from dirtying the lens! Also removes some stray light from entering the lens, but use with a lens hood. The only time I remove the UV filter is to attach a Polariser or ND filter.Id rather damage the filter than a lens valued at £300 plus.5star value for money.

What more can I say? It arrived on time, safe and well and fits the lens for which it was bought. I've not detected an improvement in my photos, but I wasn't expecting to - the purpose of buying this was to get a good value protector for my new fish-eye lens. This is the third Hama I've bought and I cannot see how paying up to four times as much for 'better' makes can in any way be justified (just my uneducated opinion there).

Unless you are a hard nosed pro photographer and can afford to spend ten times the cost of this product then it will fit your needs perfectly as a standard UV filter. It also protects my 75-300mm zoom lens against unforeseen knocks.I found that the minutest application of Vaseline to the thread facilitated the smooth application of filter to lens without risking damage to the very fine threads.

I received this product on schedule and in a really sturdy plastic case!It fits well on both my 18-55mm canon and my 55-250mm canon lenses. and the lense cap fits well on top.very pleased with the product, as for the UV filter....im still a amateur when it comes to stuff like this there is a slight improvement when used outdoors! Will be buying another to fit to my other lense!

Does exactly what it doesn't say on the tin - it protects your very valuable lens front end! You might want to check with the photo websites but I believe that UV effects were a wet film problem and not a problem on modern electronic sensors. Either way it is a great sacrificial lens protector and I would always use one!

The filter fitted perfectly on my 18-135mm lens and does a great job. I just got my camera and this is my first dslr so I am really not a specialist, but this item meets perfectly my expectations. Arrived from the US to UK much quicker than what the delivery estimate was saying. Totally happy with this purchase.
