Having had my Canon 1000d for a year now, I feel like I've gotten really good use out of it, having taken nearly 5,000 pictures since December 2009. I bought the standard 18-55mm kit, on its own with no frills or extras added on - so I have essentially been using the camera 'vanilla' so to speak.Whilst overall I have been very impressed with the camera, I felt that when taking landscapes, my results have been very varied - I often found that the images lacked 'punch' and looked a bit washed out and dull.Since fitting this polarizer, my results have improved dramatically - it does what it says on the tin! Blue skies now look bluer than ever, (and I am told the effect will be even greater during the bright summer months!),and landscapes seem to be better saturated and more balanced. The filter feels like a quality product, with a nice weight making it feel well made and engineered. With its fine thread it screws onto the lense very nicely.I've just this week also purchased Canon's 55-250mm telephoto lense - the great thing being that this 58mm polarizer fits both the original kit lense and my new one. The 55-250 is a popular choice for amateurs looking to expand their camera kit, so it's ideal.Overall an excellent filter, and I can't really see how the other vastly more expensive filters could be that much better than this!

I was concerned about buying this filter because the price was very low compared to Hoya. The decision to purchase was eventually influenced by the fact that the price was an 'offer' from a higher price and other reviewers seemed happy about the optical performance (except one).In the end, I decided I wanted to experiment with a polariser and this seemed to offer a good starting point. So what I got?As an engineer, I think the mechanical quality is good and the thing seems to do what it says on the box. To newcomers , I would make the point that the setting of a polariser seems to be quite critical and it is easy to miss the effective part of the rotation. That brings me to my one criticismm of the design...The filter has a little handle screwed into the side. Would you believe that the weight of the little handle can cause the filter to move off setting with very little provocation. It is difficult to find when on the camera. This makes it awkward to use compared to the excellent knurl on the filter body. A previous reviewer has complained that the handle was easily broken and not much missed. My advice to users is... take the handle off!. It unscrews easily. Then you have a nice filter that stays put when you take your hand off it.

I have noticed that there are a few negative reviews for this polariser and think this is maybe down to some misunderstanding how it works.Polarisers usually work best when used at 90 degrees to the sun, so try to shoot with the "sun on your shoulder" to get the optimum effect. Also the height of the sun is going to effect its performance. A polariser won't make a big difference to your photos at midday but will have a more dramatic effect in early morning, late afternoon. Also if using a wide angle lens you are likely to experience only partial polarising effects (dark bands across the sky), this is not the fault of the filter but characteristic of lens/filter combination. When using the filter with a telephoto lens, with their narrow angle of view, you are unlikely to see this effect. Also the complaint of vignetting is also common when using any filter with a wide angle lens. I would suggest getting a low profile filter for these types of lens.My own experience of this filter on my 135mm-400mm zoom is very good. When used correctly glare is dramatically reduced and saturation is increased. The Hama filter out-performs my Cokin one and is equal to my Hoya CPL.

I have a couple of lenses for micro four thirds cameras that use 37mm filters. This appears to be quite a nice one in that it is the only one that I have that has an adjustment lever at the side. This not only allows easy adjustment but also provides a crude reference point about its alignment. In its retail pack, the filter appears to have a slight blue tint but is quite neutral. Although intended to reduce glare from certain surfaces, it can also dramatically darken skies and enhance the appearance of clouds. It can also be used as a neutral density filter, allowing use of a wider aperture for greater separation of foreground from background or a slower shutter speed giving a larger degree of movement blur and a greater impression of speed of movement.A minor property is also that it will reduce haze at least as well as a UV filter. Although it will have an impact upon exposure, with modern cameras and their in-built exposure metering, you need make no manual adjustment but just leave it to the camera to resolve. Not especially expensive in this small size, it makes a useful addition to available kit, even if it will not be a permanent attachment.

Having owned a basic DSLR (Nikon D3000) for few months this was recommended to me by somebody who read I like walking. It arrived one Saturday morning, literally as I was packing my rucksack for a very hot 11 miler in the "wilds" of Essex. Once I extracted it from it's bullet-proof box, it screwed on very easily to the standard 18-55mm lens and I was good to go.With a little practise, the results it produced that day were excellent. Fields that had been suffering in the recent hot spell came back to life. A dull corn field (see my photo) glowed against an even bluer summer sky. Simply rotate the filter with the small lever for the desired effect. Get it right and your pictures will be greatly enhanced, however get it wrong and it's unlikely to be a major disaster. I left it on all day and no pictures came out badly. The differences can at first be very subtle to see through the viewfinder, you do have to concentrate to get the best results. However I'm looking forward to more experimenting with this great value addition to my camera bag.A great buy for me though it loses a star for the nightmare to open box!

This is an excellent polarising filter from Hama. Polarisers should be used at an angle close to 90 degrees to the sun and when this is done the filter should give a very strong blue effect and any white clouds should stand out impressively against the dark blue background. The Hama polariser does this exceptionally well and is very effective at dawn and dusk. It is also very well constructed and there is also a front facing thread on it so that a lens hood can fit be fitted onto the front of the filter. I have had some excellent results from this unit and I will look forward to using it overseas this winter in sunnier climes. On the downside, the filter box is not of a good construct being fiddly to open; I managed to break mine in the first week. In addition the filter unit does have a little 1cm long handle or nipple on it so you can rotate it with one of your little 'pinkies'. This works very well but the nipple tends to catch on things and could cause some damage if you knock it due to its obtrusive nature. For these two reasons the items gets four stars instead of five.

It's a great filter. As with most technology, quality comes at a higher price, but it's a great little filter for what it's worth. If you're a professional landscape photographer that is going to be using something like this nearly all of the time, then obviously it would be better for you to invest in something a little more expensive. But if you're just starting out and learning the ropes, or want to get a bit more technical with your photographs, then it's perfect. The build quality is fine, screws off and on simply and very easy to adjust the angle. It could have done with a more padded and smaller case, as i'm not one for leaving filters attached to my camera, but other than that it's absolutely great.I used this on my Panasonic Lumix m4/3 45-200 lens, and have attached some photographs of my results with this filter (two using polariser and one without) I'm in no way a professional photographer (just aspiring to be one!) but even my amateur pictures show how easy and effective the filter is.

I used to be highly skeptical about circular polarizing filters (you can do much with photo editing software), and being on a budget, I didn't want to invest much in buying one.I came across this item by coincidence while I was browsing for ND filters, Both The price tag and the label encouraged my to try it out, as I have tried some of their products before and I do trust their quality. This item has good build and it comes with a detachable hand that comes in handy when you want to swivel to get the right effect.Needless to say, as soon as it arrived, I strapped it on my 18-55 lens to get the hang of it and it worked very well to my surprise. It's the item I didn't know I had to have!It removes those annoying reflections in glass surfaces and adds a beneficial saturation to vegetation; the greens are really green instead of a yellowish or blueish hue. Button line is, if you are on a budget and need a good filter of this sort, You will not regret getting this item.

Quite satisfied with the filter. On physical attributes, like it that a tab sticks out the side of the filter to enable easy adjusting of the filter. However, this is not shown on the displayed photo here on the site. It fits well and firmly onto the lens. No worrying of it falling off.Photo quality-wise, it does as described- filters out the additional light that causes reflections. Gives a wee bit more contrast to photos especially in well-lit places. In dim areas, photos tend to be dark but that's only naturally. Can be resolved with software editing or making a point to remember to up the exposure before snapping. All in all, a good buy and would recommend it to anyone.Have yet to try the better quality filters (Hoya etc) but for the price, this does the trick well![Bear in mind I am no professional/expert. Have been into photography for awhile but only started with a 500D early last year]

I got this filter for my Panasonic FZ18. This filter is quite thick, and using it at the widest angle with this camera produces a (in practice unnoticeable) tiny vignetting at the corners - but in practice it's not a real issue (just zoom in the smallest you can, and it will disappear). Note that this is when putting the filter directly on the camera - if you have some UV filter on top, you'll have some proper vignetting at the corners (which will still disappear if you just zoom in a little). The quality of the polarisation is very good. As any polariser, you need to know how to use it to get the most out of it, it won't just work by pointing it anywhere (like I was trying initially).Used in the right condition will give you excellent results. The sun needs to be at 90 degrees from the camera (i.e. either on your left or on your right side) to have the best effect.

I bought this for Nikon lenses. The filter is a 52mm sizing and simply screws onto the end of your lens. There is a small lever on the filter that enables you to rotate the filter to either increase or decrese the effect. It's that simple! This filter does reduce glare drastically and improve colour depth/saturation of your pictures giving great results. I've taken some test shots with and without the filter through glass windows, using a blue sky as a background on a sunny day, across a river on a very bright day and if required with a little turn of the lever all glare can be reduced and colours enhanced. Of course it's not the camera/lens/filter that make the shot a great one. It's the person taking the shot! I'm sure you've probably taken cracking pics with your mobile phone camera! I can recommend this filter and at this price you can't go wrong.

The product:I don't have much experience with photography and polarizer filters, that is why I opted for a cheap first option, which came as a recommendation from a more experienced friend who already had the same one on his canon DSLR. The filter is just fine, very good quality build and gave my summer pictures a deeper blue, as expected. I can recommend it to any begineer/intermediate photographer. Unless you have a DSLR camera with "crazy" lenses worth upwards of £1,000, you don't need anything else. The service:Arrived on time within 4-5 working days and was sealed in a bubble envelope. It was contained in a plastic flip-open box, imagine a miniature cd case. No issues there either.Overall: Excellent product, fit like a glove on my Fujifilm HS10, great service, at an excellent price.

I have nothing to compare this product with. It's the first filter I've ever used on a camera. However, when it arrived yesterday on a beautiful sunny summer day, there were ideal conditions to test it, down on the beach. I was delighted with the results. Every photo was glare free and the sky and water in particular looked fantastic. All colours were faithfully reproduced. As others have rightly pointed out, the handle attached to this particular filter is not much help; in fact it prevented me from attaching a lens hood just when it was most needed. However, the handle can be easily unscrewed and your bigger difficulty will be in removing the filter from it plastic box without breaking the box. It's worth the effort and a bargain buy.

Obviously this is not the best Cir polarizing filter as it have limited polarize level. To be honest I am not really impressed with the polarizing effect but no doubt it is a good one for any beginner. It can still give some effect on reducing the reflection on some reflective surface such as water and glass but do not expect it to penetrate everything and give you extra ordinary detail cause it certainly incapable of.Why still four star mainly because of it build quality in fact the filter itself feel very solid and well made. In addition it stated clearly on the filter itself "made in Japan" which make me very pleased. You definitely get what you pay for but as the <15quid filter, such build quality is a plus.

I bought this as a means of providing me with sunglasses for my camera. Glare off water reduced, blue skies deeper in colour and emphasising cloud formations. It also will allow me to take studies of the fish in my pond. For these purposes, this filter was ideal and at a reasonable price. It is not the top end of the market but then neither is my camera - Sony A350. It suits my needs. With regard to the peg on the side which seems to concern so many people; mine hasn't come off yet and yes, I do use it. When it does come off I will twist the filter as I do with other circular polarisers. Not difficult really, either way.
