Very nice design I do believe the Gerber Vital Folding Knife has a superior design to the Havalon Piranta Folding Knives. I have used both and do not like how dangerouse it is to change the blades on the Havalon not to metion you need to carry a Leatherman to help with the blade changing. The Gerber Vital design allows for an efortless blade exchange without the need for another tool to do the process. Just push one little button and the blade slides out effortlessly. No more risky blade changes when your hands are dirty and wet. It will take any of the blades that the Havalon uses even the fillet knife blades you just can't fold the knife shut with the longer blades.I just use the longer blades when needed the put he regular blade back on after cleaning the knife. Very functional and a breeze to use feels good in the hand and it is so light and slices so smoothly that I can use it without the usual hand pain from my authritus. Been working on converting all my friends from the Havalon to the Gerber Vital I do believe I am making a believer out of most of them.

I must have over a thousand dollars in top-end hunting/skinning knives. The importance of a good, sharp, quality knife is not lost on me. But after skinning out antelope, deer and elk; I find myself now carrying just this knife...and replacement blades. For all the obvious reasons of constantly sharp blade, easy grip, light weight; this works. And when the day is done, dispose of the used blade (safely), and run the handle through the dish washer. I am no professional guide, but when in company of professional guides, this knife is their dirty little secret. I've seen them used in Alaska (fish and deer), Washington and Oregon (elk, deer, bear, coyote, raccoon, antelope), California (hogs),Costa Rica (fish) Panama (fish and fowl).

The blade locking/ retaining mechanism eats about 1/2 the blade, however it’s the lower 1/2. This part isn’t typical used during my caping/dressing deer process. Much safer than the Havalon for blade exchange when it’s freezing out and you are covered in blood. Rubber grip inlays in handle offer superior grip. Blaze orange so if you set it down, you can find it. I bought replacement 60XT blades from Havalon and they work fine. Can someone let me know if the bigger version of this knife, Big Game Folder, will take Havalon Baracuta blades?Overall for my use, this is an awesome knife that I won’t hunt without in my pocket. It weighs next to nothing.

This is great, as are all replaceable blade knives. What sets this apart is that it uses SCALPEL blades, not a proprietary blade system (Outdoor Edge). Scalpel blades can be found on amazon for less than 8¢ per blade VS over $1 each for other similar knives. I have used this Gerber Exchangeable blade knife to skin hundreds of fur bearers. The Outdoor Edge Razor knives are great for a single Elk or deer, but if you dull the blades quickly with taxidermy or skinning fur bearers, the cost can add up.

I've been carrying another brand of exchangeable blade knife for a couple of years, but I though this one had a more substantial handle (since I have big hands). I also prefer the easier blade exchange on this knife, which makes it much safer. It also has a detent that stops the blade in the half closed position so that it doesn't flip all the way closed on your fingers. The only issue that I've had with it is that I'm left handed and it's a little tough to open one handed.

Don't get me wrong with the four stars. I do love this knife, just wish the handle had more heft. It's a bit small in the hand. Love the small blades though. And the blade release mechanism is smooth and easy. Much easier than the Havalons. I also have the Outdoor edge. Love the bigger handle on it. The blade is also bigger which comes in handy in some cuts when skinning. I would recommend this though over the other two. Just my opinion.

Bought this after watching the legend Randy Newberg hunt and gut with this. This knife is no joke. The guys were making fun of my knife I brought out when I got my bull last year. By the end of gutting it they all wanted one and could'nt believe how well it worked and felt in their hands. They all bought one after that trip. Can't beat the changable blades that ensure a sharpe edge no matter how many elk you have gutted.

Took this light weight little knife hunting this past fall, mule deer, and it's a keeper. We had 3 tags and harvested 3 bucks. We used this amazing little knife to skin, quarter and debone all 3. I used 2 blades per buck. My buddy used his havalon on his deer, both work just as good. Each has a different blade mounting style with their own small drawbacks but nothing significant enough to mention.

I've been using a Havalon Piranta for many years but last year it broke while breaking down a bull elk in the dark. With the Havalon I never liked changing blades when my hands were slick and bloody because it's dangerous without using pliers. The Gerber is much easier and safer to change blades in the field. I'm still using Havalon blades with the Gerber Vital.

This is a phenomenal knife. I gifted one to each of my employees this year for Christmas. The blades are razor sharp and are easily exchanged. This design is a huge improvement over my other razor blade knife (name not mentioned). The blades are sharp and thin so if you do any type of prying with it you can snap a blade. I highly recommend this product

These are great bec you can buy a few packs of replacement blades and use it all the time as a pocket knife. It beats having to hold onto a utility razor blade with bloody hands in the cold weather. This is basically a surgical (actually shaving sharp) tool you can keep in your pocket. I disassembled and spray painted mine bec I hate orange.

Once excellent knife that has many uses but I use it mainly for cleaning game. Makes short work of skinning or cleaning an animal. Great feel in my hands and very easy to hold in hands even while wearing gloves, etc. The blades are extremely sharp but very easy to replace. Great knife and I am happy that I purchased

My taxidermist told me about this before my Caribou hunting trip in Alaska, I'm sure glad I was able to receive it in time. I ordered it from here because it was twice as expensive here in AK. I'm very glad I bought it and will use it for many more hunting trips to come. I recommend it to other hunters all the time.

I love this knife. It’s always sharp and you never have to worry about sharpening it. I used it to cut cardboard boxes for about an hour the first night I had it and it cut through that cardboard like it was butter. I didn’t even notice the blade going dull until I was done and took a look at it.

one blade will do 90% of field dress then do 75% of work to take meat from one deer. it is little too flimsy for some work, so it makes a great companion to a good quality medium size blade. It does help with skinning away the hide and not rupturing abdomen when field dressing.
