These leads are useful under certain circumstances, but I have to admit I wouldn't use one normally. We bought one recently as we'd just taken on a new rescue dog, and while she hasn't been recall trained yet, we wanted to give her a bit more freedom but keep her safe on a recent holiday walking the coastal paths in Pembrokeshire. The other big advantage of course, is that while you're scrambling up or down hills, the dog isn't going to pull you over, as they're not on a rigid length of lead (they can do some exploring too, and you won't be jerked all around the place). These leads can take a while to get used to, and the danger is you could actually injure your dog if you're not sensible how you use them, but it worked for us on this occasion. I'll admit I was glad to return to using a Halti Training lead though, while the new pooch is being trained.A massive, massive word of warning...please don't let your dog take off, thinking it will stop when it runs to the end of the lead, as you could either injure your dog, or injure your wrist. So 4 stars for a well-built, efficient piece of kit, if you really do need it. But take care!

This brand is the easiest extendable lead brand available on the market and we have tried most of them! It's also one of the most competively priced. We would never ever use a cord extendable lead, and this tape one is perfect. It's long enough for our dog to feel she is still free - if she needs to be on the lead, but short enough that she can't get into too much trouble! It is easy to lock at a certain length if you wanted to and it doesn't jerk on the lock like many of the other brands do - which jerks the dog as well. It's lightweight but extremely sturdy, and the onyl reason our old one was replaced with this one is because the dog wrapped the other one round a rose bush which frayed a section of the tape - and although it was still strong, for safety and just in case - we replaced it with the same again. This size is easily strong and sturdy enough for our 10kg dog, despite it being very lightweight to hold and carry

Our previous retractable lead broke one walk, much to the dismay of our energetic hound! Did some research and found this one, was a little skeptical at first as it was half the price of the others I had been looking at, but I went with the reviews, and glad I did. It's incredible sturdy, and the mechanism is so much easier to use than her previous one. also the part were the tape comes out is angled to make it easier on the handler when the dog goes off to the side. She's much easier to control with this one.The only down side is hold it is not as comfortable as her previous one, as that had a rubber grip. But that's the only downside!

I use these leads with my standard sized Yorkie when she is wearing her harness. She loves to be able to go at her own pace when on the streets and is then off lead in open areas. I was once advised against these type of leads because if the dog suddenly runs and the handle gets pulled from your hand it could end up hurting the dog. With that in mind I always keep a firm grip and have had no problems. The lead needs to be replaced fairly regularly because it has a tendency to fray where it connects to the attachment, but at the price this is not too much of a problem, although I do try to keep one in reserve.

So having previously bought a cheaper extending lead for my dog that broke, leaving it fully extended and not reeling in I decided to upgrade to a flexi. The price of this lead was pretty good and I got an amazon warehouse second hand one but I wouldn't have known that it had been opened by anyone else as it looked like new. The lead is very pink but it was cheaper in pink so I got it anyway. But it's small and so comfortable to hold, my previous one was so much heavier and the braking system much clunkier to use. This one is so easy to use one handed and so light and easy to hold. I'm really happy.

These style of dog leads I have had on previous occasions. I prefer to have a lead that as got the tape and NOT the cord as the cord can cause burn to the skin. You can have these leads as long or short as you like. You need to buy the appropriate size lead for your dog. They are quite strong and easy to use. If you do have a dog that is only walked on a lead, then these leads can give your dog extra exercise which always a good thing.I ordered it and it arrived the following day with Amazon Prime, which is brilliant as I needed the lead quickly. The seller gave excellent service.

I purchased this for my puppy who has done well on a regular lead and I wanted to give him more freedom on walks. The handle is comfortable, no sharp plastic edges as I have found on other brands, enough space on the handle for a poo bag dispenser and the button to stop the dog is really easy to use.It doesn't allow the dog to go too far so they are still well controlled.Only downside is the weight and size of the clip. I use a harness on my pup and the clip ends up resting on his back.I would still recommend this product as it is good quality for the price.

Bought this for my German shepherd to stop him pulling he's a big 40k and it works great so far very sturdy he is actually walking better with this as I can reel him in and out and the lock button wortks great would recommend this as I have went through so many of these same items and some have lasted for mins or days then bang something snaps this can hold my German shepherd 4year old even when he has a quick pull or lunge at ball if he drops it it holds superb can't find any weaknesses in this this should be up with the more expensive brands top quality

This is the first retractable lead we've bought for our border terrier and we've had it for about two months. Our dog is small (< 7kg) but very active so I was pleased to find that not only is the lead well-built but responds quickly when retracting the tape. I've not had any problems so far with tangles and the dog's attempts to chew through the tape have, although half-hearted, proved futile so far! It's nice to see that the clip is nice and chunky and hasn't shown any signs of sticking etc. Very happy to recommend.

Bought this to replace a previous flexi. The old one used cord, the new one features a tape that extends from the handle. This works really well and is very smooth, but I did notice that the tape catches the wind much more than the cord of the old one. So when at full extension you can get the tape vibrating and sawing about but only in a stiff breeze. The unit is very comfy in the hand and the trigger / lock mechanism is excellent. Recommended for all dog walks under force 5 wind conditions!

I bought this lead as a replacement for a previous broken lead when the strap broke very quickly. This lead feels very sturdy to use and the clasp on it is easy to attach to your dogs collar. The thing i really like about this lead is how easy it is to get it to lock as we often meet other dogs and i want to pull mine back and lock it with ease. many leads are alot harder to do this with. the handle itself is easy to hold and not heavy which for me is another plus point

We have a dog that is mostly Staffordshire Bull Terrier and he is enthusiastic to say the least! He also has a very low centre of gravity and is more than capable of pulling you over! I bought this lead with a little scepticism, especially when it arrived, as the tape (lead) itself doesn't seem up to the job on first inspection. On his forst trip out all doubts quickly evaporated. The lead is brilliant and is exactly what it says on the tin and more!

Excellent quality German made retractable lead. No fancy braking mechanism, just the basic thumb control and lock. Tape is definitely superior to cord as it is much less likely to result in rope burns, and not as easily chewed through. However if your dog shows a preference for chewing the tape I'd suggest a short length of chain between the lead and collar. You can't expect the tape to survive a sustained bout of chewing!

Great lead, clasp is very strong - can't see what the other reviewer was complaining of,maybe they've changed it.It's nice and light, the locking mechanism is easy to use and control with your thumb, very positive action.I bought and 2 regularly use them with my two lively 25Kg dogs, one in each hand - it's like trying to control a stunt kite on a windy day....Only time will tell if they last longer than the cheap ones.

Love these Flexi leads but cockapoo pup chews through them very easily. Like the tape rather than cord as easier to pull in - doesn’t burn hand. Have now bought Ancol chain which fixes between harness and lead to stop him getting to the tape. Great leads. Would definitely recommend them.Have now bought Ancol chain extension to stop him chewing through tape and encourage better heel walking - which is working now.
