If you are seriously trying to learn Shona then this cannot be the sole product you will need. There are many inconsistencies with the basic word section. Coffee, taxi, times etc are pronounced in English with a generic African accent but then you do get the correct translations for the numbers in another section. As this is the first of a series of CDROMs there is opportunities to develop your skills talking in sentences and adding slang etc. All in all this is a product that is good for young children, my daughter uses it as a game and is very amused by the accents, its a good opportunity to learn through play and you have the opportunity to review your learning in short tests etc.I would advise anyone to obtain a Shona to English dictionary to check some words prior to using them.

I bought this language CD hoping to learn to some Shona. What got for my £20 was a cd that teaches you to say english words in a shona accent. Most of the words are english and here a few for illustration;Hotel (english) = hotera (shona)two = twofive = fivihsix = sikisi11:40 = twenty to twelveiron = ironiI can't tell you how cheated I feel when an english word in a shona accent comes up on random play on my ipod. Then when you load this CD on your computer be prepared to be there all day learning your simple english words. The interactive learning program is cumbersome, slow and makes for dull learning.I do not recommend this product, ask a friend who speaks the language to teach you, you'll at least learn some real Shona that way!

My Shona speaking wife laughed and laughed at the translations of words which have been anglicised. She said I would be better equipped learning Shone from a 3 year old Zimbabwean child. Secondly, the CD only works for the first two attempts and then catastrophically fails.

I prefer the app for this language but the book has been useful for somethings.
