For several years I had a Bell wired computer on my bike it was accurate and reliable. What I hated about it is if one held down one side of the bar button you lost all of your imputed info and you had to reprogram it. Don't know how many hours I have spent re-entering the info and it always seemed to happen at the most inconvenient times...like on a ride with friends. When it crapped out on me a few weeks ago bought a wireless computer which right out of the box did not work. Sent it back got another ..different brand. Same-o right out of the box did not work.Had about decided to go back to the wired Bell but it had low reviews and the I saw this Cat's Eye that had great reviews. So ordered it.Have been riding with it for a couple of weeks and the accuracy is right close to what my GPS reads. It gives me the important info like speed, time, distance, avg. speed, and max speed. Calories burned is not even close to what my GPS reads but then again there is not an option on the Cat's Eye to input age and weight. As for the Co2 thing don't know what that is.The best thing about this computer is it is dummy proof. By pushing the bar on the front you can scroll through the different parameters. If you hold the button down for a couple seconds you only delete all the info from that ride unlike the Bell.. You can't accidentally delete all the info you had to input manually. To delete the info you imputed you have to take the computer out of the holder and use the tip of a pen to mash the reset button on the back side of the computer.. I should never have to worry about loosing all my settings again. FYI. the set button is also on the back side of the computer. That took me a while to figure out as the instructions are a set of drawings. Easy enough to install if you have done a wired one before.,

It has all the basic functions most people want. I have several of the Velo7 for our family. This Velo9 I bought was the same price recently and had two more features. The carbon foot print and calories are just an automatic equation the unit computes and is likely not very accurate in real life, but who can tell. The two main attributes of this bike computer over many others (and I have had several over the years) is that it is easy to understand/read/reset and it does not lose your data easily by accident. The last bike computer I bought prior to this CatEye had a bigger display and had a night glow back light and more functions to keep me amused. But, I had trouble reading the small icon to see what function I was reading.I did not often use it in the dark and if I was in the wrong mode to resent my trip mileage I lost my YTD data. The Cateye with one long press of the one function button sets all your trip data back to zero. However, in order to erase your YTD mileage you must take the unit off its mount and press a reset button with a tooth pick to do that. Now I really appreciate the Cateye over other since I was losing my YTD data several times a season.I commute by bike all year long in the Chicago area. The computer will be covered in snow or ice at times or sitting out in the hot sun and it has not had a failure in two years. You can calibrate your unit by tire size or measure your wheel and enter that size for a more accurate speed and distance measures. It can be set for metric or English readouts. The only downside is you cannot reset individual functions. The reset button resets all ride functions at once, but that is a tradeoff for its simplicity. The only feature I would like to see is a back light for night, since I am often on the bike after dark.

Install was straight forward but can't turn it on! Why? Because the battery came with ZERO voltage. Yup a 3 year Panasonic battery deader than dead. Checked it with my fluke 789 process meter I use for work every day. I will have to update this review after I get a chance to go out to the store and buy a new battery for a shiny new bike computer.that currently does... Nothing!***UPDATE!!So took it on 25 mile ride today and it did great! After I had to go to a store and spend 5 bucks on a new battery. (This 2032 battery type is supposed to last 10 years on the shelf so don't know what how old it was in shelf years before I got it.)I had got this just so I could track speed, total miles, and trip miles and because the unit is small enough to go in my pack and large enough to read easily. I could see the display great even under shady trees with my polarized shades ;-)Moving thru the menu and setup was a breeze you will just need something small to hit the reset button and set button on the back.I have 29"X 2.2 Tires on my mountain bike which are not in the Auto setup selection but when you measure it out it comes to 230 CM it takes whole numbers so truncate the decimal for those who like to be exact.I had 3 other bikers on the trip out of the 9 who had different bike computers and GPS biking apps and after 25 miles we were all within a 10th of a mile.I like the wired unit because it also does the Auto on and off it "should" save the battery this time. The mount on the handle bars is a little cheap but for under 20 why should I expect something bullet proof? I am going to get some handle grip wrap and put that under the mount.⇦another reviewer idea.SO 4 out of 5 stars in my book for the handlebar mount and the battery issue.

I'm no Stravaneer, don't want to know how fast my feet are flailing nor how fast my heart is revving, I basically just want to know how far places are and how far/long I've ridden. I've got two of these Cat Eye Velo 9 computers, and a Velo 7 on my bikes, and they all work very well for my needs. Large and clear display is easy to read, and setting it up is straightforward. This latest purchase was for a fat bike, and the included tyre settings chart didn't include such an oddball wheel and tyre combo. But, it's easy enough to measure one rotation of the wheel along the ground and manually input that figure. Battery life seems good so far,the Velo 7 is still on its original battery after about two years. This Velo 9 computer also records calories burned (how accurate that figure will be is anyone's guess but still...) and how many carbon thingies or Penguins have been saved, by not taking a car presumably, so you can feel all smug.A simple and straightforward computer for those of us who don't want to hook our bikes up to satellites or spend hours examining data every time we go for a ride,

Does what it says.I have found this a very useful piece of equipment. Set up took less than 10 mins and if you make a mistake inputting data (as I did first time) just reset and start again.Fixing the sensor is a little tricky but only so far as you could do with one extra hand to hold the item in place while fixing the cable ties. The cable ties are very thin so have some spares as you might (again like me) fix it in one place only to find it would be best in another. This gives me all the info I need, speed, distance, time, max and min speeds plus average speed. I have used this on a number of trips and the readings seem consistent only fluctuating slightly on distance even though I completed the same circuit, but only by point something of a mile so I ain't going to quibble on that. Not quite sure how accurate the calories burnt info is as no info about yourself (height, weight etc is asked for) but this feature is neither here nor there for me.All in all very pleased with purchase

Having tried a number of bike odometer apps, all of which were rubbish and didn't work at all well, I looked at something less hi-tech that was physically mounted to the bike. This fits the bill nicely. The Velo 9 offers a good range of useful readouts without GPS and maps and is reasonably easy to fit. The only slight annoyance was the ties to secure the clip- in unit, but overall it was easy to fit and doesn't trail wires too much over the front of the bike. Careful placing of the sensor and tightening the magnet on the spoke is essential. Tested out over some pretty rough, bumpy terrain, the unit produced sensible readings across miles per hour and distance, so I am pretty confident that the information is accurate.Resetting the unit after a ride retains the odometer mileage, so it tracks your complete distances unless you do a full reset. After the irritation and annoyance of Android bike apps that simply don't work, the CatEye Velo is a much better solution.

Whilst I am a keen cyclist who rides both for leiasure and the occasional time trial I don't get too hung up on needing to know about my heart rate, number of calories burned or what the time is in Singapore. This easy to use device fills all the other requirements and I have equipped all my bikes with them. In short the clearly displayed read out shows my speed in either K's or miles an hour; my average speed and also the time of day. There are are other functions but these are the basics and work very well indeed. With only three parts, batteries and supplied cable ties the product is compact, easy to fit and durable. Calibrating it is childs play. From an aesthetic viewpoint it is unobtrusive,a point worth considering if like me you are fitting one to a vintage racer. So to sum up I think it is a good brand and a great deal. Highly recommended.Read full review...

After doing some research, this looked like the best highly-weather-resistant wired magnetic pickup bike speedometer out there. I didn't want an expensive GPS-based device that you have to remember to recharge. So far it has not disappointed, but I haven't ridden in the rain yet so I can't comment on the weather resistance. It is simple to read, simple to program, and simple to operate. It takes a CR2032 battery which lasts a long time and is readily available. It is missing a few functions that I liked that I had on my old one (which did not hold up in the rain!), including a thermometer, a backlight, and a maintenance warning that would tell you if you were getting close to a preset mileage where you should be performing periodic maintenance/cleaning on the bike. But it has all the basic functions necessary. So far, it's living up to its ratings.

Got fed up with a wireless computer I was using dropping the speed sensor signal at times - if you are 30 miles into a ride and you look down to see zero speed you instantly know your averages, time etc etc are all messed up - how annoying is that? This unit (as with all past wired Cateyes I've used - and there have been several...) seems fit and forget reliable. The sensor is the one they have used for years and is not too fussy about position. It doesn't need to be 'touching' the magnet to get a constant reading like some others do - a 3 or 4 mm gap works perfectly.Yes its wired so you do need to run that wire neatly to the sensor - hardly difficult. The sensor itself is much smaller than wireless units as a result though - so for me its actually much less 'visible' overall.Good price, accurate and works reliably - 5 stars then.

This will be my third cateye cycle computer purchase. I really like the quality of Cateye products. I like the basic wired no-nonsense models like this. I do have to agree with other reviewers that the base is not an improvement over the older type. The older type clicked in, and you had to push a little tab to remove it. I had one of these for years, and it never gave me any problems. This on just goes on with gravity, and it is a little tight. I can easily see it flying out of my hands while trying to pull it off. I bought this for an E-bike which has quite a long reach from the handlebar to the fork. I had just enough wire to make it work. If it were an inch shorter, I would have had to send this back. Most people would not encounter this problem, but I figured I would mention it.

I installed this bike computer on a Motobecane gravel bike. I had a Cateye Strada wireless on it, but it would not work when I used my Niterider headlight for pre dawn rides. The headlight would jam the wireless signal, so the speedometer would stay locked on zero. I'm giving 4 stars to the Velo 9 instead of 5 because of the tire circumference setting. Circumference setting is in centimeters instead of millimeters... which causes it to be slightly off from GPS stats. I use bike computers to keep track of odometer stats and as a backup to my smart phone with MapMyRide app. I've been using the Velo 9 on my road bike for about a year and it's about a 1/10th of mile off after finishing ride...which is not terrible, but not precise. Easy to setup and simple to install mount and sensor.

Having tried a cheap wireless alternative(which I regret), this is just the job. It's easy to fit, and more importantly it yields a constant signal from the wheel, regardless of how fast the bike is going (nor how far your sender is from the computer). The instructions come with easily understood instructions, in English(!!) that hasn't had the misfortune of mistranslation or badly formed grammar (well at least as far as I'm concerned). Once fitted, the operational mode is very easy to 'cycle' round, forgive pun, and I think you'd be pretty hard pressed, as I've seen in earlier reviews, to wipe your temporary dataset out by keeping the mode button down for 2s or more. Had a cateye set many years ago, don't know why I bothered with the other alternatives..

Attached this on my mountain bike which I use for mostly cross country but has seen some pretty rough ground traversed as well and used in a bike park. Was worried about it falling off or coming loose but hasn't been a problem.I believe it to be accurate and you can set it to the correct tyre diameter fairly easily. Took a while to set it up as it's not the clearest instructions but once installed has worked flawlessly. The zip ties to hold it on the handlebars are not ideal but for the 12 quid I paid i can't really complain. Bought the white/grey one as was much cheaper than the same one in black.Useful for tracking how far you've cycled in areas where GPS may not work such as in the hills in the Snowdonia National Park where I ride.

I bought this to replace the Cat Eye 7 I lost awhile back. If anyone is wondering you CAN plug this into the same "saddle" as the 7 and it will work. No rewiring required. The instructions are a LITTLE vague, but not terrible to figure out. My one complaint so far is that, if you mess something up in the programming, say the time, you have to go back through the whole process from scratch to fix it. Not a terrible thing, but I definitely won't be making any adjustments for daylight savings time.My favorite part, outside of finally being able to know my speed again, is how nice it looks on my bike :)Okay, my favorite part may actually be the fact that it fit with old Cat Eye 7 "cradle" I had already installed.Made it simple.

It's functional and does the basic stuff you need - odometer, average speed of journeys, at-a-glance current speed and clock, etc. It also doesn't seem to suffer from any design flaws, something that pushed me away from the absolute cheapest options. The CO2 and calories burned options are useless to me - the calories in particular as calorie calculations for cycling are far more complicated than anything the inputs would allow it to calculate - but the price between this and the Velo 7 were close enough that I decided to get this in case it was worthwhile. In retrospect, having to click through those options is niggling enough that I'd reccomend the Velo 7 instead but they are incredibly similarand both worth getting.
