I bought the Cateye Adventure to replace an old, cheap-brand wireless model that eventually gave up the ghost. I went with Cateye this time as they've got a solid reputation, and this one had some functions that were important to me.The unit looks quite big from the photos but it's not really - it's 5.5cm x 3.5cm, and about 1.2cm deep. It clips very securely into the supplied mounting bracket, yet is easy to release. The numbers on the display are easy to read when you're cycling along - you don't have to squint at the thing or move closer to it, which is a relief. The mounting design is clever: you can mount the computer "head on" or at 90°, so you can easily mount it on your handlebars ("head on")or on your stem if you prefer (with the computer still facing forwards, even though the mounting bracket is fixed at 90° to the direction of the bike)The functions are numerous - the usual ones are of course present, namely current speed, average speed, distance covered, time taken, and there are a serious of extra ones, some of which are useful, some less so. The chief selling point of this model is the altimeter. It is accurate and responsive, though it can drift a little depending on atmospheric conditions, weather etc. It's easy to set up though. I looked on Google Earth to find out the height above sea level of my home, then entered it into the Cateye as my "home" altitude. If I pick the Cateye out of the drawer, fix it to my bike, and leave the house for a ride and notice the current altitude is not quite right, I can recalibrate it to force it to my home altitude with a few button presses. The altitude reading can be useful if I'm out on a long ride, as it will tell me how much more climbing is ahead of me before I reach home again, allowing me to save a bit of energy if I know I've got a hundred feet or more yet to climb. There is a gradient readout too, but this is much less useful - to start with it seems quite good fun ("hey look! I'm currently on a 6% uphill!") but you quickly realise that it's just a gimmick. First of all, your legs, heart and lungs will very quickly tell you how steep the climb is that you're on, as well as your eyes, of course. Second, it doesn't actually matter what the gradient is - you've still got to get over that climb, ultimately. Finally, it's far too slow to react - very often you'll be off a climb and on the flat over the top, or even on a descent down the other side, and it'll still be telling you you're on a +3% slope. On downhills it's even worse, as due to your speed you can easily be 75-100m beyond the point where the descent stops and it will still be showing that you're on -2%. Very strange, since the altimeter is so quick to update. There are other useful functions though, like the second distance measurement. When you reset the Cateye before a ride, it will reset the timer, trip distance, maximum speed and average speed, but will leave this second distance measure along (you can manually reset it though if you like). This means that you can reset the second distance measure at the start of the month, say, reset the normal measures before each ride, and keep track of your total distance over the entire month, say, which can be useful if you log your miles as a measure of fitness. There's also a temperature readout which is useful if you're cycling in Britain like me - it can be a useful warning that the roads may be icy if it's below 3°C, or a way of avoiding heatstroke if it's up in the 30s, as it nearly was last weekend, but again your body should be a pretty good measure of the temperature anyway.A few other good functions round out the Cateye Adventure, like a simple pointer that tells you if you're currently above or below your overall trip average, a "total distance climbed" readout, and a clock so you'll know if you'll be home in time for tea, plus a "countdown distance" timer, which you can set at a certain distance if you're on a measured course (set it to 10 miles for instance and it will count DOWN from there, so that you know how far you've got left to go), or if you've set a target number of miles to meet for the month. The manual that comes with the unit is DREADFUL though and has clearly been designed by idiots. It makes little sense and it can be quite hard to figure out how to make it do what you want it to. You just have to tinker a bit to find out how some things work - it shouldn't be the case, but it is.Overall this is a good little unit with a few little quirks. The mounting of the bracket and the magnet/sensor on the wheels couldn't be easier, and has obviously been well designed, unlike the manual. It's not the cheapest cycle computer but it is very good and should last a good long time.

This product is essentially a fairly simple bike computer (like the much cheaper Cateye Strada) but with added barometric altitude sensing. It doesn't do cadence or heart-rate monitoring and it isn't a GPS or data recording device so if you want those sorts of features you'll be disappointed. The RRP is about 1.8 times the Strada, which represents reasonable rather than great value.ProsAltitude seems to be very accurate and responsiveGradient appears to be good to within +/- 1% (averaged over 50m or so)Batteries last a long time, there is a battery low warningEasy to operate, even in glovesSensor ID system should reduce or eliminate spurious readings on group ridesConsThere is no way to displayboth distance and time together or to flick quickly between them.Average speed is shown to only one decimal place which seems mean given that distance is shown to two.Sensor is specific to this model and hard to come by as a spare part.No back light so can't be used at nightSelecting mph for speed seems to force the unit to read altitude in feet.

Bought this as an upgrade to my trusty wired Specialized Speedzone. I must confess I have not been disappointed in the least. It has all the functions of the Speedzone and adds to them a fairly accurate altimeter, thermometer, a 2nd bike option, gradient and a lot more besides. Not really sure why there are mixed reviews here, particularly in regard to ease (or lack) of set up and a few about reliability. My advice is simple; read the instructions and follow them, and as for reliability, this thing has worked flawlessly over the past 4000+ miles in all weather without complaint.I would buy another without hesitation, simple.

A name to be trusted and the quality to endure. It mounts to the handlebars or the neck. Simple to mount, the directions are easy enough to get it going in minutes. Like I've read be ready to put fresh batteries in. ones it comes with are old and and save the time by replacing them upon setup. The features are easy to use and navigate, only the altitude is relevant to barometric pressure so it isn't reliable for that but all else is fine. Temp should be done out of sunlight and the improvement I'd make would be making this at least water resistant. Haven't gotten it wet yet but it's been close.

I'm generally pleased with the Cateye computer - it's well designed in terms of use and adjustment. However the altimeter is a little more difficult. You need to adjust the altimeter if you take your bike on a train for example to suit your new location - as the altimeter doesn't function unless "live" on the bike. Altimeter however is very sensitive to within a few metres of height change which I'm pleased about. ........................This is a later edit of my review - the setting buttons failed to work after about a year of use so I was unable to use it (except as a thermometer!)

I found it hard to set up but once it's done it gives me all of the information that I want when I'm riding. The main reason that I bought it was for the gradient feature. It's not so accurate that it gives perfect percentages, and there is a time lag between you starting a climb and the correct percentage showing, but it has given me an idea of how the climbs that I do compare to others. I find the temperature gauge useful too.

I bought this to track my biking through the allegheny mountains. I love the temperature and altitude features, which my previous Bell's didn't have.Very simple to setup, great wireless connectivity and very accurate. Also love the fact that it has a clock (which my Bell's didnt have). It doesn't come with a cadence monitor, but I didn't care about that.Definitely looking forward to logging hundreds of miles on this badboy!

After a weeks delay while I waited for my lithium batteries to be delievered i got this up and running. I'm glad I didn't pay rrp, but for £50 odd I'm not sure anyone could fault such a practical piece of kit. Yes there is a delay in registering the slope but i'm presuming that is because it calculates the altitude difference between two points, for £50 I wouldn't expect more, very happy.

A very capable, full function bike computer. Really like the Altitude function. However, the instructions are poorly written and do not cover all steps clearly to set this computer up. After several frustrating attempts in several steps, I finally either guessed or luckily got the thing all set. The pairing instructions are especially confusing. Once done, it works flawlessly.

this was a bit challenging to set up at first , but like the other fellow that purchased this said to do i downloaded the pdf file for this from the cateye website which made it much easier to set it up.it works great so far and it arrived on time , so i'm completely pleased with this and the seller.

Cateye adventure is light, easy to use and there's a good visibilty, even at the sun light. The % of inclination and the meters of climbing are extremely useful to know how hard is the track. The adust of high is lit bit complex and hard to urderstand and to set correctly.

but it does not work any more.. I replaced the batteries but it stopped working.. The screen lights up but seems like there is no connection between the sensor. I tried all tricks and tips.. even advices.. nothing helped.. :(

A very good cycling computer with a lot of features. Careful not to drop it though because it is very sensitive. Also, sometimes I have difficulty in pressing the buttons
