Bought this for my Planet X road bike, and have clocked up 1200 miles (according to the computer) since I got it this year so I now feel well qualified to comment on this.First, Cateye products are generally superb. This is no exception. The people looking at this will fall into two camps- those who are after a replacement computer and those thinking- do I really need this? As to the second camp, the answer is a definitive yes. This is not a gimmick - if you intend to get semi serious about getting fit and enjoying your bike, you need to know how far you are going, the time taken and your average speed. In other words you need a cycle computer. Now for both camps- this is a superb cycle computer and in fact is so popular it has become very common but for good reason. It is rock solid, and extremely accurate. There are three parts to the computer. The first is a little magnet which attaches to the spokes of the wheel by means of a small hand turned screw. It fits both standard and flat spokes (I have it currently on my Fulcrum Racing 3 wheels). You then have a sensor which is approximately 2 inches by 2 inches in size. This fits to the REAR of your fork. It has a rubber side which you place against your fork at the same height as the magnet on the spokes, so that when the wheel goes around the magnet passes by the sensor and records a revolution in the wheel. The sensor is affixed by means of some cable ties. If there is a fault, it is that you only get two cable ties (?- they cost nothing!). Luckily if you need more, you can get them from Amazon (you need 2.5mm width by 200mm long standard cable ties).Next is the computer bit. This has a bracket which on a road bike would normally be affixed to the stem, although it turns 90 degrees so it can be fixed to the handle bar where necessary or on a bike without a long stem. The computer clicks into the bracket and that is it- it is up and running. You will need to input your wheel size (chart in instructions) if you do not have a standard road bike wheel. The computer has no buttons on the front and works by depressing the entire computer to switch between modes. It shows various combinations of trip, speed, total mileage, top speed on last trip and time since set off and current time. It will also show average speed, and usefully at all times has a little arrow pointing up or down indicating whether you are travelling faster or slower than your average- gives you a kick up the backside if you are taking it too easy! When you stop, i.e. at traffic lights, the time of that current trip stops. So unless you want candence ( speed pedals are turning) this basically has everything you need in a reliable and highly rated package. A few people I know have one of these and no one has a bad word to say about them so you cannot go wrong.

I have to say that I like this device a lot. Boys and toys maybe!?! I've only recently taken up cycling again and it is a giant leap from the days of the manual odometer on the front fork and the little peg on your spoke - now you get a small magnet on your spoke instead! In those days, you had to buy one based on your wheel size of course but one of the first things you do with this is to tell it the circumference of the wheel based on a very extensive look-up chart. It has to be extensive because it even had an entry for my 26 x 1.25 wheels and these are way obsolete! Fitting it on the bike took a bit longer than I thought - not because it was that difficult particularly but just because I wanted to get it right first time.Having done it once, if I did it again, it would probably only take me 10 mins but I guess it actually took me closer to 30 mins by the time I had it fully working and tested. I've had it on the bike a few weeks now and not encountered any problems: no hitches with the wireless at all. As a computer, it does what I want. I'm sure you can get more complicated ones but for me, this is perfect. The display unit is quite small (more a 1st class large stamp than a PDA, as you might think based on the photo!) but it is easily readable on the move. One nice feature on it I like is that it has arrows that tell you if your current speed is above or below your average, even if you are not showing your average in the lower display section (in the picture the arrow is up, suggesting 21.5 is above the journey average). Overall, a nice bit of kit that arrived quickly.

Being new to biking ('new' meaning revisiting after a break of about 30 years) I bought a nice tourer (Moda 'Nocturne' - very nice) and reminded of the little odometer I used to have on all previous bikes, thought a hi-tech device would be beneficial to show me distances travelled. Since nearly all electronic odometers now have at least 8 functions I took recommendation from a friend who cycles in Scotland and got this Strada Cateye. It's easy to affix, easy to set up (clock, tyre diameter etc.) and then mount on the handlebar stem with the strap and soft protector provided. The spoke magnet mount allows for both flat spoke and round - the wheels on mine have flat spokes but the ends are round so the magnet goes right on the outermost edge. The sender unit (this is wireless) is a bit more tricky on my particular bike as the forks are more oval and not a consistent shape and CF too. A pair of cable-ties are supplied, so I fitted that in the correct orientation and within the specified 70cm of the display and spun the front wheel - bingo - 8 mph! You can set it for km/h or mph so it logs distance in km or miles. The unit itself in the top mount serves as a press-to-change via a micro switch underneath so it only requires a press on the lower edge to alter the display to what you want to read when travelling.Highly recommended for an uncomplicated device that does pretty much all you need. Higher spec units do GPS but you know where you went as you were there!CPF

This bike computer does exactly what it says on the tin, and once you have one you don't know what you did before... that was before the clip on the bracket broke and I had to carry the computer in my bag.Don't get me wrong, the clip insert for the bracket can be replaced via various on-line websites, but when you have paid upto £50 in the first instance, you don't consider you will be spending £5 after 4 months of using it for a new holder (lets hope the replacement is a little more durable or its going to get expensive). Admittedly I have to take the computer off 3 times per week when I leave my bike locked up at work, but surely the clip should be fit for purpose!?!Beside the clip within the bracket (2 parts to its construction)the computer is easy to fit, following the instructions helps (just make sure you fit the sensor on the correct side of your front forks as you don't get an extra pair of mini-black cable ties) and I have become addicted to pushing myself harder and faster to beat best times and speeds on my commute, and knowing just what distances I have covered; which is probably why the broken clip bugged me as it did.Overall, I would recommend the computer - it's just a shame about the clip!

The Strada Cat Eye is an award winner for good reason, it simply is hte best value cycling computer around. The computer itself is small and easy to operate. You simply press the entire unit to swithc beteween the various displays and press and hold to reset the counters. The display will show you your current speed in the main area of the screen and underneath that it will show whatever additional selection you have currently chosen. These additional displays cover highest speed, average speed, distance since last 'reset', total distance since you started using the device and time. Additionally there is a little arrow in the top left corner which points up or down based on if you;re going fasteror slower than your current average.Fitting it is simple enough with some very good quality fixings for the computer, a small magnet which screws onto your spokes and a sensor which you cabe tie to your front fork. The sensor is a little on the large side but that really is a minor complaint. If you're serious about cycling then this really is the entry level computer of choice and nothing really compares to it unless you're willing to spend big bucks on a £200 device.

I bought this online elsewhere as I couldn't get European delivery for this item.I read the instructions fully before fitting it, which was very simple and not as difficult as some reviews have made it out to be. Of course you have to be careful and decide the position before you tighten the clips etc, but that is a no-brainer really! The only difficulty I had was in setting the clock and not being trigger happy when pressing the buttons, but this is an issue with me, and not the product.I was very supprised to see actually how small it was. I had a look on the cateye site as I was undecided about this one or the micro version. I decided on this is for some strange reason is weighs less, only 22g.The computer itself is about 1.5 ins x 1 ins and the screen is clear and leggible. There is no light for night time or a thermometer, but there are no claims otherwise in the product description. It comes off easily when needed to, otherwise sits fast and does not come loose when going over tough terrain on my mountain bike.so far I am very happy with this, but I am not so happy with my now PROVEN slow cycling - lets hope that will improve ... :)

Instead of giving a proper review, I will keep this brief and focus on the negatives of this product.1) This product comes with only 2 zip ties which is used to attach your sensor to the fork of your bike. A few spares wouldn't hurt.2) Using another mechanism to attach the sensor to the fork would be more appreciated to allow easy removal.3) The lack of additional features including backlight display, stopwatch and monitoring temperature, especially at this price point.I personally have had no bad experiences with the mounting bracket for the display as mentioned by other reviewers, with that said, I have only had it for just a few days,so it's obvious that I can't make a clear judgement on that until more time is spent using this product. In terms of how weather proof this product is, that's something I don't know and don't intend to know as I only ride in dry weather.I have however cycled in 5 degrees celcius, and it still seems to operate fine from what I can tell.It earns 4 stars for not having the stated features as mentioned above.

Bought this to replace an ageing cheapo computer that I got from Aldi some years ago. The Aldi unit had become unreliable with the function buttons sticking and refusing to cycle through the functions.Cateye Strada arrived quickly. Fitting instructions were straightforward and initial set up was easy. This computer has all the functions you really need if you are a hobby cyclist like me. No heart rate monitor or cadence function but in my opinion these are really only of benefit to the serious racing or time trialing fraternity. I just ride for fitness and enjoyment plus the odd spotrive thrown in - so the Cateye Strada does everything that I need.Another plus point is the absence of fiddly buttons to access the various functions.Just press the base of the Cateye body downwards and the rear mounted function button is actuated against the support bracket to access the function you need -Simples!!Thorough recommended.

This unit was fairly easy to fit, looks good and works very well (even though I was only just able to meet the 'line of sight' requirement between the sender and receiver). It has all the menu options I need and can be set for any wheel size.My only criticisms are that:1. Even when fully tightend the metal disc that clamps on the spoke is easy to rotate. If it got a slight knock it could rotate and then foul the sender which might do some damage (this hasn't happened so far)2. It is too easy to zero the trip settings by accident. My wife and I both have one of these on our bikes and both of us have zeroed the trip settings several times by accident (and we've only done about 50 miles each so far!).You have to be careful not to inadvertantly lean on the unit or hold it down just a bit too long when going through the menus whilst riding.Overall though this is an excellent piece of kit and I would recommend it.

Enjoying Cateye Products, especially their lights, when my Polar packed up I thought I would give the Strada Wireless a go. Why-Oh-Why Cateye such a fragile bracket??? If you commute/tour, and need to remove the computer from its bracket often, be prepared to fork out five pounds every now and then to replace the bracket, or spend time removing the whole mounting instead! The bracket has a small catch, that "clips" the computer into the bracket. This eventually will break, so try your best and don't be rough, or the price of replacement brackets will probably reach the price of a more expensive "Do more" computer with a more solid mounting option. Computer bounces superbly well off concrete, and goes on and on, so why such a shoddy bracket to compliment this reliable little fellow?

A very neat and nicely made cycle computer. It fits very well on the bike and can be fitted in a few different positions. No tools are required to fit it. The sensor on the forks is also able to be fitted without tools and is dead easy to fit. The read out is nice and clear but the lower set of readings (ie not the speedo but the other display showing distance, avarage speed etc ) could do with being a little bigger. Being ever so slightly " bat eyed " I do struggle to see the lower display without my glasses on. I ride wearing safety sun glasses usually. Its only a small point and anyone with good vision would not have a problem reading the display. Its a lovely little piece of kit and works well.Good value and recommended.

This is an excellent cycle computer, but I wish they would make these easier to fit onto fatter suspension forks. You need a maximum clearance of 5mm between the sensor and the spoke magnet, which on my wide and fat suspension forks is very hard to do. I had to mount this at a funny angle in order for the magnet to register against the sensor. It works well for now though, so I am pleased. Easy to operate and flick between modes. The other down side is that it is difficualt to take the computer off the mount (so no-one will nick it), but I guess if they made it too easy it would fall off.All in all, pleased with it, but would help greatly if they included a separate mounting guide for fatter forks.it wouldn't cost much.

Brilliant piece of equipment. Skipping between the functions is easy and it fit nicely onto the stem of my Claud Butler racing bike. Only downside is that the screen doesn't have a backlight so can be difficult to see when it starts to get dark. Not a major issue though as quite a few top brand speedometers don't have lit screens. The wireless function is perfect and I've had no problems whatsoever with regards to getting signal. Fitting was straightforward and required know additional tools (just a pair of scissors to trim the cable ties down to size).Make sure you have a look at the dimensions as it was a bit smaller than I was expecting.

Bought this after reading lots of other reviews, some mixed but most positive. Got to say I love it, it was easy to set up, (once I worked out the actual distance of the sensor) and its easy to use. I wanted something simple to measure distance, time and speed but after looking at cheaper ones I decided to pay a bit more as there seemed to be an issue of accuracy and being secure. I am pleased I went with this. I haven't used it off-roading yet as I've just been on local cycle tracks which are mostly tarmacked so I don't know if there will be an issue with it 'moving' around but it appears pretty secure and I've had no problems so far.

Having previously purchased a cheaper make which I have had numerous problems with + display poor, I looked thru' the reviews and the make/model which seemed to be the one that was rated the best. I must say I am not disappointed with the Cateye Strada, setup was straight forward and it is working great. My main concern was fitting it on my electric bike - am over 70 - but again not a problem. Perhaps it's because of my age the only small minus is the removal of the computer from the bracket which is slightly awkward. Would I recommend it - certainly - having bought cheaper makes it well worth the extra in the long run.
