Premium quality and designed cases for the Xperia Z5 are hard to come by, mainly due to the lack of people buying Sony in the first place, therefore not that many manufacturers make cases. Having bought the official Sony SCR42 cover case, which is a great case in itself, the only thing I disliked about it was the exposure of the right hand side of the Z5. I wanted a second case, a little more rugged for daily use.The Case-Mate Tough Case was my second choice and seeing it was now greatly reduced to under £12 from its previous price of £25, I took the opportunity to try it. At a £2 premium compared to some of the overpriced and awful glossy TPU cases out there, the Case-Mate was a no brainer.Couple this case with a glass screen protector (which I have) and the phone is fully protected. The case is well designed, with a rubber membrane for the inner layer and an external hard case, with a dotted texture to provide extra grip. It does make the Z5 slightly bulkier, but as its marketed to be a rugged, this is to be expected. The case protects all sides of the phone with it's dual layers which I can imagine will take some impact whilst keeping the phone inside safe. The headphone jack and micro usb connector is easily accessible, whilst the volume rocker and camera button are catered for by button extenders on the case.A few of the cheaper cases I come across, had cut outs for the fingerprint sensor which made it unusable or harder to use. The Case-Mate doesn't get it fully right, as you can not unlock when holding the phone from the front, but the cut out to access in a normal holding position (i.e with your palm behind the back of the phone) is unobtrusive, making it easy to unlock with both fingers and thumb.Theres a knack to fitting the exterior shell to the inner rubber membrane, which is not obvious as the packing did not provide any instructions and it was a case of trial and error for me. At first, the 2 layers did not fit rigidly, and there was a clear gap at the top of the case between the 2 parts. However, the trick is to fit from top to bottom, ensuring the external shell slides under the headphone jack rectangle, which provides a click, and then clicking the rest of the case in place, providing the clean lines one would want. This is a great case and worth the extra money over cheaper TPU cases, especially if you want the rugged protection.

Please note this review is for the case designed for the Sony Z5 Compact.Firstly there are two parts to this case - a soft rubbery frame and a hard plastic back. The case snaps on pretty easily, it's a good fit. Plus there is a slight lip which means your phone's screen shouldn't get scratched if you place it face down. The cutouts are in all the right places e.g. for the charging port and headphone jack. The micro SD/SIM card flap of the phone however is covered by the case, but to be fair most people won't be opening theirs on a regular basis. There are no cutouts for the volume/camera buttons but the case goes over them with some plastic silver buttons which do the job well - good tactile feedback. There is a fairly large gap for the power button so the fingerprint scanner should still work fine. The camera hole is also reasonably sized, so your photos shouldn't be affected. In addition the LED flash is also unaffected. Now perhaps the most important part - the toughness of the case. The plastic is thicker than your typical snap-on case and the rubber frame should allow the corners in particular to absorb more impact which does make it seem pretty tough. I haven't done a fully comprehensive drop test yet but did try dropping it from about 1m - 1.5m on a wooden floor and each time the case (and phone!) survived. The plastic did chip very slightly on the inside corner but my phone was in perfect condition. So on the whole I would say it does a pretty good job.As a side note, I've installed a tempered glass protector on my phone and the case doesn't affect it at all; it doesn't lift it up at all.Unfortunately though I have found the case picks up fingerprints and scratches quite easily. At the moment after owning the case for 2 days, the phone has collected a few minor scratches which are noticeable up close - however this does indicate it will scratch more, and perhaps more heavily in the future. I will update my review in time if necessary.

Please note that this review is for the Samsung Galaxy S5 version of the case. Amazon have different versions of the case on the same page, therefore reviews will be mixed together. This is a very easy case to fit. Just drop the phone into the silicone section and pop the hard shell on top of that. Job done.I recently had a Griffin type military case with chunky silicone buffers on the corners and an inner frame that snapped onto the back late to hold the case in place should it hit the floor. This worked well and a few drops were survived. However, the trade off is the additional bulk. This case tries to reach a compromise between protection and size. It carries it off well and it looks and feels sturdy enough. However,I have my reservations. The phone sits in snugly, but there is no lip running around to keep the phone in place. I just have this feeling that if the phone hits the floor it will dislodge and spill out. I guess by then most of the energy from the fall will have been dissipated on impact, but I have visions of the phone sliding across the floor. I can't say for sure if this will be the case (no pun intended) and only an accident will confirm or put to bed my fears.I can't mark the case down for my unfounded fears, but I am taking a star off for grip in the hand. The case has a nice textured finish, but it is smooth to hold. If you don't have a tight grip on the phone it could just slip right out of your hand. The military type cases were quite rubbery for impact absorption and grip in hand. You can hold the phone in the flat of your hand at an angle and it will stay put, with this one it stars to slide off your hand at just a few degrees of angle. It is a nice case with all necessary cut outs lining up perfectly. It doesn't interfere with the camera lens, charging port or earphones. At the current price of 17 GBP it is a bit pricey, but does look good and is in keeping with the styling of the S5

The HTC One M8 is a beautiful phone - probably one of the most beautiful on the market right now, and I say that as a convert from iPhone. However the cases available for it did a lousy job of showing off its' form. I've had two already within a month of having the phone (including the HTC official plastic sleeve) and they made the phone look ugly and discoloured, or were slippery causing the phone to be dropped, and in all cases were brittle and felt like they'd break or crack at any point (and one did). This case on the other hand is none of those things. It is hard and secure but feels less brittle and very pleasant to the touch, it clings to your skin reassuringly, yet without marking or fingerprints - and that's the real revelation of this case: it looks bloody beautiful. It is crystal clear and does not mark, so it basically looks like the M8 is encased in a layer of glass. Quite how they have combined all these properties in one product I don't know as I would have thought being clear, being grippy, and being non-marking were three things that need trade-off among one another! Evidently and brilliantly not in this particular case.It absolutely shows off the single sheet metal form of the M8 in a way that deserves to be seen. Since I've had this case people have reverted to wanting to see the phone or have had their eye caught by it, in a way that noticeably disappeared when the two prior cases were on. It's great value and a great purchase to go with the phone. My only annoyance is the subtle Case Mate logo at the bottom of the case which sits over some tiny small print on the bottom of the M8. It's not very obvious but if you have OCD it's a small blemish on what could have been perfection. Nonetheless, the best phone case I ever bought.

I received this case and I have to say I'm really happy with it.First of all I found the packaging very pleasing and stylish, it would make a great gift. The case itself is really robust, it comes in two parts. The first section is a soft rubbery case that covers the phone like a second skin. Once in place the hard outer shell fits on seamlessly. It has an attractive texture which looks very stylish and gives good grip.Top feature for me has to be the silver buttons. Old cases I've had in the past have had openings where dirt gets trapped easily and was sometimes a pain in trying to access volume controls etc. With the case-mate case however, there is no problem. It’s almost as like the phone came straight from the manufacturer with this awesome case built on!I would give this case a 5 star rating however I will have to deduct a star as the only thing that is a bit of a pain is the headphones socket. With the case being so robust it adds a little height where you normally plug in your headphones. If you are using the official headphones there isn't a problem, however if like me, you use an aux cable in your car, the headphone jack doesn't go all the way down to make the connection. Were the socket opening a little larger this case would be perfection! That being said I can't fault this case, I have in fact dropped my phone on concrete (thankfully in the case) and was relieved to see there wasn't even a scratch in sight!Awesome case, well worth it’s retail price.

This fantastic case for the Galaxy S5 offers an excellent level of protection against everyday knocks and scratches and looks really smart (particularly with a black finish handset). The clever dual-layered design fits the handset very snugly without masking any of the controls, the camera or the microphone, and it's manufactured to a very high standard. It feels nice in the hand and the rubberised finish actually makes your phone easier to grip (especially out in the rain). It is very quick and easy to fit and seems to stay in place without coming apart. I've used mine intensively for several weeks and it doesn't seem to have picked up any marks or look any different from new.On the downside, this case does inevitably add some weight and bulk to your phone. This is clearly not the most slimline case available - if it was it couldn't offer this much protection anyway. If you already find the S5 a bit on the large side, this may not be the case for you. I also find this case makes it very slightly more tricky to get your nail under the S5's USB port cover when you want to connect the charger, but you soon get used to this. The S5 is a very expensive investment, so if you want decent protection for it that looks good and doesn't interfere with the usability, this is a great option. As a tough case, I can't really fault it so it gets the full 5 stars from me! Highly recommended.

When i purchased my z3 compact, i bought it outright, so after spending the cash to do that, i knew i wanted a decent case. I wasnt going to buy a cheap case for a phone that cost me hundreds. I did ALOT of research and the case-mate case was the best reviewed by ?which alongside many other review pages.I chose the clear case as i bought my phone in sony's trade mark orange colour, and i felt it would be a shame to hide that, but also, i could place paper reminders or photos behind the case too if i wanted. The case itself comes in two sections. A shock absorbing outer rim, and the solid shell.I have witnessed people drop their phones unprotected or in cheap cases and they just smash, the screen cracking, the cameras stop working, it becomes completely unusable.Im clumsy. I have dropped my phone insanely. It has slipped out of my hands, dropped off of tables, Fallen onto tiles, concrete and wooden floors and not even a scratch on it. It still is perfect. The case takes it all in its strike without wincing.I will never buy another brand of case for my own personal use, and will use this brand for my childrens phones too. It is a brand worth using if you dont want to be paying for screen repairs, espicially when most companies will invalidate your warrenty if the screen breaks.

When I first saw this case, I thought it was a bit on the pricey side; once I got it, I could see why.I've had cheaper cases before which are usually just plastic shells or gel-type covers and whilst they protect from damage within your pocket, they're not great at protecting against drops or five year old children (just ask my phone insurance company!).This case has a double layer - an inner silicone-type material which holds the phone snugly inside a tough plastic exterior. This seems to provide a lot more protection firstly against the impact itself and secondly against the resulting shock damage. The phone seems to have survived a couple of drops by my five year old daughter (or at least that's the story I'm sticking to!Ok, must admit one of them was me...)The case also has buttons instead of cut-outs where your phone buttons are - when you push them they press against the phone buttons. It actually feels like you're holding your phone as they are so responsive. My only (minor) criticism would be that the case doesn't have much grip so could slide easily on most smooth surfaces. However given how secure it is otherwise I can overlook this. All in all I'm quite impressed with the case and would now spend the extra money as I'm sure it's saved me a fortune in excess costs.

This is brilliant. I really like the two layer method of protection and it fits like a glove and keeps the phone nice and snug. The inner layer is soft, floppy rubber and works to absorb the shock a bit should the worst happen and the phone is dropped. The outer shell is more robust and encases everything. The second layer is a harder rubber but not rigid and has just enough texture to make it feel nice in the hand. It does add a little bit of dimension and weight but the payoff is that my phone is less likely to get damaged or even scratched in the event of an accident. The lip of the case curls over the screen a bit which I love as even if I put my phone down the wrong way up the screen is held up and away from the surface a bit so there's no danger of scratching it either. The buttons and speaker etc are still all easy to get at and I haven't had a trace of echo that other have been unlucky enough to experience. With other phones that I've put cases on, I take the cases off every few weeks to check for crumbs and such that sometimes find their way under the cover from when it's been in my bag's sidepocket. Haven't found any under this one yet as it seems a nice tight fit which is another plus for me.Very nice case which looks great and feels nice in the hand. Can't fault it.

The HTC One M8 is my third consecutive HTC handset, but the Case-Mate Barely There Case is the first non-HTC accessory case I've bought. The HTC silicone case that comes as standard with the M8 is not great (mine started to fray quite noticeably after fairly minimal use) and it also doesn't show off what is a beautiful-looking phone to maximum effect. This Case-Mate case does exactly that and more - it looks simply stuning in my view - I just wish I'd bought it sooner. I can't quite understand why anyone would say 'Don't buy this case' as someone has in a previous review - it looks superb, fits very easily and securely, leaves no scratches to the phone casing whatsoever and all the handset controls, volume etc are easily accessible. My only minor criticism is that the case is quite slippery to hold compared to a silicone case as one or two other reviews have mentioned - for example it does tend to roll around a bit if left on or around a car seat or dashboard, but no huge issues. Buy it and I pretty much guarantee you won't regret it.Special kudos to Amazon too for a remarkably quick delivery service - I ordered the case on Tuesday 5th August via their free Super Saver Delivery service and it was delivered on the 7th - around two to three days early. Very impressive!

Very well made, clear phone case. It's hard plastic and all the key parts of the phone are still accessible through the case except for the sd/sim card holder. The buttons on the case are actual plastic buttons unlike some cases I've had that use cutouts for all of them. The only button cutout here is the power button which is for the fingerprint sensor.I don't think this case would protect the phone very much from hard impact from dropping since its just hard plastic, it is ridged on the screen though so if you do drop it on the front, the case takes the impact not the screen.I do think it's better used as a scratch protector though which is fine for me.If you are looking for drop resistance you would be better with a hard outer case with a rubber insert since these are designed for that purpose but they are bulkier as a result.Overall, this case does not feel cheap and nasty at all, it has a very nice feel when in use since it's all rounded off nicely. Would definitely buy this again over other cases.UPDATE: This case has a fairly large flaw, if you use the flash on your phone, it reflects back into the final image, leaving white around the bottom two corners. For this I have deducted a star.

Where to being with Casemate..I originally had my first case from them about 3 years ago, with my Sony Xperia Z3C - and what a case. 3 years of bouncing, knocking, dropping, soaking wear and tear and it never let me down. Friends were so impressed that all 3 of them with Z3Cs got a Casemate case. The only issue I had was the button for the camera fell off. So I was in no doubt it would be the case for my new Z5C.On first impressions the Z5C case seems to be of even better quality than my Z3C case. This covers all of the phones edges (Z3C couldn't on the left side because of the charger), and seems to be very sturdy. I've been using this now for about 5 months, and there are literally no signs of wear still.Seems to be made of the same stern stuff as the other case. The only qualms I have of this case, and they are VERY minor, is that the charger port has a bit of plastic from the case above it - making getting some chargers (with large USB connectors) a little trickier to get in (as you have to bend the plastic very slightly). Other than that - that's it.Casemate, you shall forever be my phones silent guardian. A watchful protector. A dark knight.

Got this for my daughters new Galaxy S5 fits perfect and is as a lovely feel to it. The hard plastic inner is tough and the phone fits nice and snug, the outer more softer case is like a rubbery silicone, so soft to hold and better for the grip. Perfect for bouncing for when she drops it, which she tends to do a lot of.I like that it makes it harder to press the buttons on the side, so no more turning the volume up & down because you are holding the phone in the wrong place while chatting. The holes are all in the correct place, which a previous we had bought was not. This is a little more expensive than what I paid for another one, but this one seems, feels & looks better quality so worth it in the end. This is a big phone so had to smile when my daughter said it made her phone seem bigger, she said it felt a little heavier but not by much. For under £14 I think it is good value for money and the colours of some are just lovely and should keep any teen happy that they can change their covers to suit their moods. Good value for a quality product that my teen is very happy with.

This is the one.I've tried a couple of cheaper cases for my Z5 and while they were decent, none of them were right. Issues ranged from poor fitting, poor quality, poor ergonomics and poor grip. While this case costs a little bit more than most cases, the price is absolutely worth it. Packaging is very nice and reflects that you've bought a premium product. The case comes in 2 parts. The inner protective piece is a soft, but fairly rigid, silicone rubber. I have no doubt that this will effectively absorb any shocks if the phone was dropped. The outer piece is a harder plastic. It has light corrugated dimples which look good and provide great grip. The cutouts for camera, headphone jack, and fingerprint scanner are all perfectly sized and centred, and provide ample space for all functions. The camera and volume buttons are a pleasing chrome metal which both look great and feel tactile. Overall the case looks, feels, and fits great. Furthermore it provides great protection without being too bulky. If you want a premium, good looking, protective case, look no further.

The case is made up of two parts - an internal, more rubbery casing, followed by a rigid, stylish plastic casing, so you get double the protection. Both the front and back of the phone are equally well protected due to an overlap/raised edge, which protects both the screen and the cameras. None of the ports on the phone are obstructed. It may look a little bit bulky, but in comparison to the case I had for my S3, this is a massive improvement in terms of looks and size, and considering the price of the phone, I'd rather it look a little bulky than have it smashed to pieces because I opted for a cheaper, more 'stylish' case. Speaking of price, I think that this is a bargain. The build quality is very good, the protection seems great (though obviously I'm not going to throw my phone at a brick wall), and it actually looks pretty good. A worthwhile investment. One thing I would advise, however, is to invest in a screen protector. To be fair, I'd say that about ANY case that isn't a flip-case, so nothing unusual/to worry about there.
