We needed a 'loovent' style extractor fan to replace a discontinued model which was 13cm square. This one has a width of about 17cm and a height of 13.75cm. Due to proximity to the ceiling, some adjustment to the wall was needed for it to fit. The unit is well built and near silent in operation. The backflow vane is a little flimsy, but as the previous fan did not have one at all this should do a better job. As with all mains electrical equipment a qualified electrician should be employed to do the work. The instructions are very clear and the online details are easily available. Before doing any work the electrician will isolate the connection by switching off the circuit at the consumer unitor removing the fuse and testing for no live wires. We noticed from the image attached the wiring sequence is Live Permanent, Live timer, and Neutral. The connector block shows a wire colour sequence of Black, Red and White from top to bottom. This was a little concerning as we would not have expected the live feed (from the connector block) to be black. However, it is fairly obvious the mains connection should be LIve (Red), Live switched (Yellow or grey) and Neutral (Black) from top to bottom. Not sure if there are regulations about wiring colours but as these are within the unit and an electrician is required, not a problem. Pleased with the build quality, quietness and price.

Decent fan for a good price. The back-draft vent is so flimsy I didn’t even fit it and the internals are a bit rough & ready, but it works without any problems and was easy to fit. Would buy again.Edit: Reading the reviews here, I have to say I must be lucky. My humidity sensor works perfectly - it's tricky to set up because of how it works, as explained in the manual, once the humidity is below the set level, the fan continues to run for the duration of the timer (the left hand adjuster). So to set it up, wind the timer to minimum (anti-clockwise), now with the room at the humidity you want, turn the humidity sensor fully clockwise (effectively disabling it). Start the fan, then turn off the fan letting it run on the over-run. When it stops after a couple of minutes, wind the humidity screw anti-clockwise slowly until the fan kicks in again. Now tweak it a little bit clockwise, the fan won't stop immediately but give it a couple of minutes and it should stop. If not, tweak a tiny bit more and wait etc... The motor will stop when it gets to the end of the over-run period. That's it really. Yes, it's fiddly to set. No I don't imagine removing the front cover after installation is going to be very easy, but it works, is quiet and time will tell how long it lasts.

I was pleasantly surprised at how good these low cost fans are, having installed two around 3 months ago. Though not silent, they are very quiet as fans go. I live on top of a hill with serious north winds- the backdraft stopper is very effective against these. Although it looks flimsy the thin film works better than two other backdraft fans I have with motorised shutters both of which are much louder. As the thin film only has to keep back air, it should last a long time, I guess the thin plastic film in a toilet sump lasts many years whilst holding back much heavier water. A tip is to use duct tape to secure the optional backdraft attachment so it holds in place well during installation (making sure it's the right way round!),and to use sealant around the gaps between the walls (or ceiling) and vent tube so no stray drafts get through. Hook the cord around the small plastic lever for the pull cord to work properly (not in instructions).

Nice, pretty quiet fan (about as quiet as you're ever likely to get). I have ours set to only come on with humidity, for which it does well. I have the timer set low, so it does sometimes go off before the job is done, and then comes on again later (presumably as the air moves around). For those people for whom it doesn't seem to turn off - I can sympathise. During fitting, I tried it with the cover off, and it turned on as soon as power was applied but turned off after the timer had expired (so worked as you'd expect). With the cover on, it takes a lot longer to 'notice' the humidity and longer to decide that it's done enough work. It's got a little grille at the bottom (by the light),which is a long way from the sensor (which is under the top edge). Airflow around the case seems to matter a lot - once I'd got it sorted, it started to work exactly as I'd like it to.

Bought this to replace a failed unit after 9 years of use in a busy household. Main reason I chose this model was because the footprint and the screw fixings were exactly the same as my previous "airvent" model so required no extra drilling etc. Just making sure the wires obviously correspond etc. Took me about 40 mins and iam definitely no qualified electrician just made sure the lighting circuit was isolated and off when fitting. In operation it to my ears runs pretty silent and no bother, I didn't bother to adjust the run on timer just left it at the factory preset which I reckon is about 10 mins. Recommended product!

Compared with this my previous Vent-Axia bathroom fan was a helicopter! Really pleased with this. Can not be heard at all in the next bedroom and barely audible through the bathroom door. Very easy for me to fit as the screw holes were exactly the same as the previous fan. You do need the 2nd 'LT' live for the timer to work - which luckily my previous fan had. This will usually be a black or blue wire with a brown sheath on it to show that it's 'live' too. There is no earth required. Separate it and sheath it with a yellow/green sheath to show it's an earth. Obviously no idea on longevity as it only arrived yesterday.

It's-a not-a silenta by any means but you can't really hear it outside the bathroom so it's OK.I got this to replace an old noisy fan connected to the bathroom light, I'm not a sparky but it was simple enough to copy the installation from the old one - it would have been more of a challenge if I was working from scratch.Timer and humidity work OK, it just took a day or so to tune it in to my particular requirements but now it goes on and off satisfactorily. My tip: Don't snap the cover on until you've fully sussed out the timer and humidity settings as it is a blighter to get back off without chewing up the edges.

Very pleased with it. Followed low carbon's settings and all is well, humidity sensor comes on only when humid, not in middle of night. Back draft vent flap is a membrane disc whch is nice and silent. Yes it takes a while to clear the room but leave, the door shut and it will get there.Update 22 March 16.With the frosty nights have been getting fan turning itself on and continuing to run during the day when temperature OK. Have drilled two 3mm holes above and to the side of the humidity sensor on the cover. Seems to have sorted it. Suspect sensor was getting damp.

I'm a qualified electrician and regular installer of all brands of extractor fans - from the cheapest right up to the most expensive, including several of this and other Vents fan products. This particular Vents Silenta MTHLK is currently my fan of choice where excessive humidity is causing condensation and mould problems, yet both quality and low operating noise are needed (in en-suite bath and shower rooms especially). The European made Vents Silenta MTHLK variant is a "quiet" version of the standard 100mm/4" Vents MTHK, of which I wrote an extensive

Does exactly what it says it will do. Not too difficult to fit and very quiet in operation. Took a day or two to get the humidity setting right. I set it to 90%, had a shower and kept an eye on it. If I came back and found it off but the shower room still humid I turned the humidistat back until the fan started again and came back later. When I came back and found the room dry I left the setting as it was and clipped the front on properly. Up to then I only rested the front in place. It has worked fine since then.

These fans are brilliant. I have not wired the ones I have bought to the switched live as once setup they automatically activate. We have one in bathroom and one in kitchen. When cooking or taking a shower the fans automatically start and remain on until humidity drops. Not just a timer. You honestly don't notice them switching on and running, at present I am actively looking to ensure they are on and every time they are when required. Brilliant devices delivered by a brilliant company in a really short time.

This fan was simple to install and connect, however the pull cord drove me crazy as it kept slipping of the plastic guide after a couple of pulls. I decided to modify it by using a small cable clip, I took the nail out of the clip and used a tiny screw to secure it fan casing. I used a small drill bit and secured the clip to the casing via the hole in the cable clip. (I screwed from behind the casing so the screw is not visible). Since then it has worked flawlessly, the fan is not silent but is very quiet.

Easy to install in place of my old fan. Silent is a bit of an exaggeration but not by much, it is a very quiet fan.Be aware that due to the lower power fan (for noise reduction) this will take longer to clear a room, even more so if you use the butterfly valve. I just increased the timer for how long it stay on once the light goes off and problem solved, I can't hear the fan anyway so not an issue for me.This model does not have a humidity sensor so the on time is the only control you have.

3.11.2016

This fan is much quieter than the one it replaced, so I'm very pleased about that. However the timer is a bit hit and miss. I think I'm not the only one to have found that. I turned it right down to cut out within a couple of minutes, but it runs on for more like 30 minutes. This is not too much of a worry though as it runs quietly. I wouldn't say it was 'silent'. The appearance is smart and it has a friendly orange light to let you know that it's working!

Old one removed and this new one fitted in less than 15 mins. If your doing it yourself just be mindful that the fans internal wireing looks back to front. the BLACK wire goes into the LIVE terminal and the RED wire goes into the LIVE TIMER terminal. Obviously RED is LIVE and BLACK is NEAUTRAL from your house wireing. I bridged the live and live timer terminals to make the timer function work. Really pleased with it, it's very quite.
