If you have a bike that you truly love, and if like me you've been shopping around reading reviews and considering every penny's worth of potential lock, then trust me, stop now and buy this piece of kit.Yes, it's heavy. Yes, it's not 'cheap'. Yes, it takes up space in your bag or on your frame, and yes you have to spend half an afternoon figuring out how to mount it best. But when you take your beloved cycle to the centre of dodgy district with Larry Lightfingers moseying about you know that your lovely bike isn't going anywhere unless he fancies sawing the whole frame into two separate pieces. The key is smooth. The finish is great. The double deadlocks are quality. The weight is... what it is.It isn't as heavy as you'd expect. The LED lit key is a nice touch. And wait for it... the EazyKF bracket is SUPERB. Fits about three places on your bike and once you work out the best place to suit you it clips in with a heavy snap and doesn't budge. The ONLY negative point I can think of is that I mount my lock vertically on the downtube, and since the bracket holds part of the lock's U bracket the silver locking bar section rattles when I go over bumps. This isn't even worth giving one star less because it's a given of the design.. What more can you do except stick a piece of tape over it every ride and nuts to that.Note: Measure the width of the part(s) of the bike you're locking it around. If like me you plan to slide the U either side of the downtube and back wheel, then unless you have a racer you can't do it straight on, perpendicular to the post you're locking it to. This surprised me but in use it makes no difference, you can just angle the lock laterally and it's all good.11/10 buy it

How does one review a bike lock? A large factor to consider in any security equipment is the reassurance it gives.I regularly lock my bike in central London, and I can say that from the specs, the hefty feel of the thing and its high security rating, the Abus is probably is better than 80% of locks I see used to secure other bikes. The main rival to this lock is the Kryptonite 'New York', and if you read reviews, there is little to choose between the two in terms of strength. I was tempted by the 'New York', having always had Kryptonite locks in the past and never having lost any bikes while using them. However, I chose the Abus because of these factors--Comes with two keys, one with an in-built light. Also a unique key-card meaning replacement keys can be ordered. Being a European (rather than American) company, the chances of decent customer support seem higher.-The easy-fit bracket works really well and is far superior to the poor quality brackets supplied by Kryptonite.-The general dimensions of the Abus are designed for European/UK use(rather than American).-Reviews of the Kryptonite lock carry stories of the keys breaking in the mechanism. The Abus feels satisfyingly solid when inserting the key.Overall, I am satisfied with the Abus lock and would recommend it to others. Downsides? Perhaps the weight, but this is the price of security and I actually find it reassuring. Also worth noting, I had thought the dimension of 30cm referred to the entire lock whereas it actually seems to mean the length of the 'U' section. This makes it quite a long lock, potentially giving extra leverage room to thieves.

I have recently paid £700 on a new road bike and I am quite keen to keep hold of it! I bought this lock after a friend recommended Abus and I have to say that I am not disappointed. It has the maximum level security rating 15 overall. Thieves have many different methods of sabotaging bike security such as bolt cutting, sawing, drilling, lock picking, ice spray etc. This lock will prevent all of these as well as having anti-corrosion properties. I also have my bike insured and this lock meets the criteria for 99.9% of insurance companies. I use this lock together with the Kryptonite Kryptoflex 7 ft Cable Lock (10 mm x 213 cm) and this also deters thieves and keeps my quick release wheels secure. The lock comes with 2 keys - one with a light and the other spare. The keys have their own uniques code card. The lock is very simple to use - simply attach the U bracket to the main body and turn the key to secure. It doesn't "snap shut" but it is not difficult to lock and this feature gives it that extra security. The lock is heavy yes but if you want excellent security then you need to compromise. I prefer to carry my locks in my rucksack whilst riding to work but this is just my preference. It comes with a bracket to attach to the frame but I have not fitted mine.To conclude I recommend this lock highly. For the price you will not find any better locks out there. Buy it.

Well I did my research on this one as it was an expensive purchase for me. Its equivalent is the Kryptonite which has a strong tendency for seizing up according to the reviews on Amazon. So I plumped for the Abus and Im very pleased. I'm quite a butter fingers with anything vaguely engineered and Ive found the opening and closing of this lock to be very straightforward. It comes with two keys. I decided on the longer one because it can be awkward to find the right railings to attach the bike to and I wanted a bit more leverage. The downside to this is that it probably wont fit as an attachment on my smallish womens bike frame. However as I always have a rucksack with me, hey ho on my back it goes. Also it may potentially offer the cunning bike thief slightly more leverage but as its so strong... well its all checks and balances isnt it? To counter attacks from the bike thieves I also bought the Kryptonite Kryptoflex 7ft Cable Lock to interlock round the frame and front wheel. I will probably order a Squires combination lock to as they have a waterproof one that I know works. One of the reviews I read mentioned how bike thieves usually could get through every defence but its using a combination of branded locks that puts them off your bike. Anyhow its early days. I will report back after a year and let you know if its still working.

Has been tested by thieves in front of my house one day: they managed to cut the plastic wrapping of the U-section and then apparently spent some time trying to saw or cut through the metal. I write 'apparently' because you need good eyes and good light to spot the numerous but minuscule little scratches on the metal. In other words, the lock totally shrugged off that attempt.Another thing to notice is that the lock still works well although I have left it outside exposed to the weather for more than a year now. The one drawback of the current design is the plastic casing of the locking bar: when my lock falls to the ground the black part of the casing separates from the silver part.Sometimes even the metal bits that form the keyhole cover fall out. This does not affect the security aspect of the lock but is very annoying. My advice is to tape some duct tape around that part of the lock. Exactly this flawed plastic casing, by the way, has been re-designed in the successor version, the Granit-540. The Granit-540 is already available in Germany in some places and should come to the UK soon I would assume.

I've just given one of these, together with a 7ft Kryptonite kryptoflex, my 19 year old son, who is off to university, telling him that one of the most important life lessons he'll learn is how to secure a bike. I sense that he thinks I've gone over the top: the D lock is too heavy, he complains, and the flex too long. 'It's too much hassle'. So I've tried to convey what a hassle it is to have your bike nicked, to find yourself transportless, to have to rearrange all your plans, to find out about public transport in a city you're not too familiar with, and, most of all, to make an insurance claim, (contact the police, give descriptions, wait and phone and phone again, and wait and argue etc etc).I still don't think it has sunk in. But I'm confident that I've done my best as a mum getting him this gear. Where did I first hear about it? I think it might have been via the Guardian cycle blog then London Cyclist. It's what I use and I wouldn't want any less for him.

One star taken off on account of the weight (it's a "beast"). Perhaps unfair, because you should know what you buy before you do. I certainly did, I have an old one (about 15 years old, and that one's still going strong, minus some bits of plastic which have fallen off the bottom part). I bought the new one, reviewed here, about 3 years ago and it's gonna last me probably another 15 years, or more, as these things appear to just work and don't "expire". I do NOT expect to have it cut, by the way. Sure, it's probably doable, but given the value of my bike (500 quid new), against the effort and time needed to cut this beast of a lock, I don't expect anyone would bother. So yes, it's a very heavy lock, and make it TWICE the weight as you really need two (unless you want to walk home with your bike minus one wheel), and yes, it's awfully expensive at the moment, but there's nothing better, lighter, and cheaper, that would offer equivalent protection. I think.

I had my bike stolen a couple of weeks ago and as anyone will tell you who's experienced this, it's not nice. It's left me feeling really down to be honest. Shocked even. Like a lot of people I'd put my faith in a ten quid supermarket lock, as I rather innocently thought that no one would nick my bike. I've now paid the price for this naievity. Please don't buy a cheap lock, it's just not worth it. After reading all the reviews I opted for this Abus lock and it looks very impressive I must say. Of course, I suppose the proof will be if I don't get my next bike nicked. Nothing's completely secure as we all know, but I'll certainly feel more confident with this lock and just wish I'd bought it before.I don't think it's that heavy and it looks very neat. I've bought the slightly longer one to give me that little extra reach around posts etc. I've also invested in some cycle insurance, only 4 quid a month and wish I'd done that before as well!

This is a serious lock and I consider this one of my all time most worthwhile purchases. They say you should spend about 10% of the value of your bike on a lock. I disagree. You need to consider your personal needs, if you only use your bike at the weekends or for nipping to the shops that's fine but if you cycle in the city, commute to work or (heaven forbid) lock your bike out overnight then you need this lock.As a deterrent, and a seriously hardcore piece of kit, this could well last you through several bikes, making it a very worthwhile investment.Of course no lock is impervious and if your bike is locked down a dark alleyway out of sight they'll have time to do their evil. After losing a bike locked with a cable lock I bought one of these and used it all over central London for years. The worst theft attempt bent the bike frame and back wheel but didn't damage the lock in the slightest.Highly recommended!

The bracket I bought was the smaller one, I some times wished I'd gone for the larger one but I can still get this lock easily around my bike frame and front wheel on most bike posts. The lock itself is heavy and feels secure. It all clicks into place with a reassuring sound. I've used it for over 5 months and haven't seen any attempt to break it, so it's working even if it's just a deterrent. The light on the key is handy. The bracket that clips to your bike is great. I always have my lock with me and it is easy to get on and off in seconds. It feels secure and has never fallen off despite riding the bike fast and over uneven road. It's also great if motorists cut you off and kick off.Simply dismount, unclip the lock from your bike and you've got an effective weapon if any idiot comes at you. This thing would probably kill if you connected well enough with their head. Glad I bought this!

My insurance company demanded that I get this lock for my bike before providing cover.Having searched the Internet for the best price Amazon were of course the cheapest by a long shot. What needs to be said about the lock?! It's impressively strong and sturdy and has obviously passed lots of quality control tests to earn its 'Gold' standard award. It is fairly heavy though so you may want to think about that if you're travelling any distance.i opted for the 30cm version to give me that extra reach when chaining my bike to posts etc.The lock fits back together no matter which way round you hold it (my other Abus lock doesn't) so I'm very happy about that.No more fiddling about trying to figure out which end fits in which.A nice touch is the keys which have a little blue L.E.D light built in to the fob. Very handy for seeing what you're doing when opening the lock in dark places.

Nearly half the price cheaper than anywhere else, this is a serious lock and it would make more sense for a thief to try and cut what your bike was tethered to than the actual lock. Bought after reading numerous professional reviews online about how secure this thing is, I'm especially happy with the length (23cm, a bit longer than my existing OnGuard shackle) and the weight (which isn't as heavy as I thought). The one downside is that it only comes with 2 keys, whereas 4-5 seems like the standard nowadays. I nearly gave it a 4 star rating because of this but in all fairness I think that would be slightly unfair.Remember to clean and lube the mechanism occasionally to protect it from seizing up.This is the main reason why people have problems with sticking keys and it is easily avoidable with a monthly blast of WD-40 and a half-yearly clean with degreaser and a re-lube.

I wanted to replace my previous, 12 year old bicycle lock. The ABUS lock mechanism seems very strong indeed, solidly locking the "D" (or "U") shackle into place. Security keys with specific key card (that can be used to order a spare). The lock is heavy, which - to me - is good (!). A cheap lock tends to be light, so the weight suggests strong metal, indeed capable of withstanding most attempts to break it.The "Eazykf" bracket enables you to click the lock into place on the frame and can be released with one hand (thumb depresses release mechanism). It is a nice touch that the fitting comes with two (!) sets of bolts: one longer and one shorter to accommodate frames of various thicknesses.Even at the regular price of £100,this lock seems to make a good investment; having got it for less, makes it more worthwhile.

I purchased this lock because I saw a review on the internet from my local police force recommending this bike lock because the only way you can remove it when it is locked to your bike is with an angle grinder and to angle grind both sides of the long sections of the lock which means it is difficult to steal your bike. The only problem I have had with the lock is the mounting bracket on the lock was loose when I first used the lock. When I tried to place the lock on the locking bracket on the bike the lock would just slide around but I just used a screw driver to tighten it up and it is alright now. I also recomend buying a 7ft long Kryptonite cable (also available on Amazon)with this lock so you can lock both wheels to the lock for extra security.

Fantastic lock, Level 15 & Gold rated by the insurance companies.I bought this, together with an Abus Steel-O-Chain, and I feel extremely secure with my expensive bike locked with these two products.I also found that, as it's Gold rated, the insurance is a little cheaper too - worth bearing in mind. The product is excellent, as you'd expect from Abus - there's a good reason that they're one of the leading security product manufacturers, and without meaning to generalise, you do know that when when you buy a German product, it's most likely going to be well made & exceptionally high quality, which this is.Delivery was quick & the product arrived precisely as it should.I'd highly recommend theproduct & the seller. Many thanks
