I first started riding 3 years ago and my first (and probably most beloved) bike was a Honda PCX scooter. As soon as I bought it I was quite worried about it getting nicked so went about doing my research for security. After reading loads of reviews, I ended up deciding on this chain and an oxford ground anchor. The chain is a nice heavy, chunky, solid bit of kit which seems to do its job well. As there is parking at work I dont need to take the chain with me so it stays on the ground anchor at home even when I am out on the bike. At just over a meter it is a bit tight to work with which means having to keep the rear tyre very close to the ground anchor. But that is also a plus as there not too much slack for a potential nefarious individual to play with. The lock is solid and opens/closes with a turn of the key. The key cannot be removed from the lock if it is open which is a positive so there is no chance of inadvertently leaving the bike unchained. The chain has been in service for three years in which time has kept 4 bikes of increasing rear tyre sizes secure. The fabric on the chain is still intact with no noticeable rips or tears. Bear in mind I am an all weather rider and use my bike as a daily commuter so the chain and lock gets used twice a day. The ground anchor is on the driveway so chain is exposed to the elements all year long but still does what it supposed to without fuss. I believe I may have used WD40 on the lock once in the 3 years I have owned the chain but cannot be certain and it certainly wasnt because the lock was sticking etc, was possibly more of a precautionary measure. The chain possibly helps with insurance quotes (although I dont know how the dark arts of insurance work so may be wrong there) but it has never let me down. Am quite happy with the chain and hope it will continue to do its job for a long time.

I've had two very nice, very expensive bikes stolen from my garage in the last year. It's a downside of living in a large city. The first time the bike wasn't locked up at all; the second time, it was locked up using a cheaper Abus lock. The security cameras in the garage recorded the thief snapping through the cheaper lock in about 30 seconds. This lock hasn't been put to the test yet. But it has a lot of features that should prevent anyone from breaking through this thing. Unlike cheaper locks, there's no way to pull back the canvas covering to get to the metal underneath. The part where the key goes is angled and tricky, so no one is going to be popping this off with a pen cap. And the metal is heavy, really heavy, so if anyone tries to cut it, they are going to be busy for a long time.On the other hand, it's REALLY heavy, so this isn't a cable you're going to want to carry with you on a bike ride. It's best left in a car or garage. And the lock is tricky even with the key. It takes a few minutes to get it in there right and wiggle it around to open the lock.Overall, though, am looking forward to testing it against the next thief that comes around!!

Positives - great price for what feels like a very sturdy and weighty lock. It does look like a quality item. Hopefully it will never be "used in anger" with some scum bag trying to steal my bike! I've had mates spend £100's on securing their bikes and they've still had them taken. It looks / feels the part so obviously a good deterrent.Negatives - may be a bit too short if you intend parking on street and attaching to a lamp post etc. But it's also a bit too long to fit under the average seat and way too heavy to carry on long trips. I attach mine to my bikes rack which isn't ideal especially if you intend touring. If you're looking for a decent lock to use in your garage or secure area and not one that your going to use for everyday riding /commuting I'd recommend this.

Well, it could be one star if my bike is nicked. However this weighty, hexagonal chain appears to be the bee's knees according to the other reviews I have seen and I can believe it. The locking mechanism and chain are as solid as hell and the lock has a proper key. Yes, it weighs a lot (2.7 kilos or 6 pounds) but sling it in your rucksack and it isn't that noticeable. Probably on a long ride it might be more of a problem but if you are not going to let your bike out of your sight then you wouldn't be taking it anyway. For those like me who have to leave their bike at the station each day it gives one belief that the bike will still be there when getting back.By the way 110 cm may seem quite long but the length includes the locking mechanism so there isn't a lot of spare.

Bought this lock as it is gold rated and therefore one of the tougher ones to crack. Built very solidly and I bought it for a full sized Montague Boston folding bike as I thought it made perfect sense. That is fold the bike in half and put the chain through both wheels and frames, but this is not possible. Alternatively remove front wheel and put the chain on.Knocked off a star despite how excellently it is constructed and even though it feels bomb proof because of the sheer weight of the thing. In retrospect I would have gone for one of their D locks with a cable for the front wheel because less weight makes it that bit more practical. However,if you're in the market for a tough chain lock then it really doesn't get much better than this.

Solid and durable padlock. Sits on our side gate and gets hammered by all weather conditions and doesn't notice it. Gets rinsed and dried out every 4 months or so, and it's doing fine. Even in wet conditions, the notches on the dials for each number are easy to rotate. Once unlocked, you can change the number before re-locking (So you can open it, hide the opening number, and leave it for the next person to lock for example on their way through if needed). This one's doing better than cheaper versions before it, and hope it stays that way- the extra cash seems to have worked

Expensive, but bloody thick and heavy. Seeing how portable bikes are, you really need to spend a fair % of what your bike is worth on the lock.If someone chops this off they're welcome to my bike. It'll require very very large cutters or a hell of a lot of force so will put off the broad daylight bike thieves. Satisfies all insurance companies requirements if you use this to lock your bike to a permanent object and all that.It is weighty, so you wouldn't reallllly want this in your backpack for long touring rides if you could avoid it.

Heavy chain, but seems to be the perfect length for my needs. The fabric sleeve was starting to come away from the end, exposing the chain, but I was able to push it back inside. I drape it around the seat post and then it lays on my rear rack and is secured by my axle mounted rubber bungee straps. It does rattle loudly while you ride. I can see no major flaws with this lock. The shackle section is encased in metal and seems extremely strong. I truly believe that no one will mess with my bike with this lock.

THIS IS A FANTASTIC LOCK, APART FROM THE WEIGHT THIS IS VERY PRACTICAL TO CARRY WITH YOU UNLESS YOUR OUT ON A TRAIL, BUT MY DAILY COMMUTE EACH DAY IS NO PROBLEM, AS LONG AS YOU HAVE THE LOCK IN THE BACKPACK, I NORMALLY WRAP IT UP IN MY SPARE LAYER OF CLOTHING JUST SO THE LOCK DOES NOT DIG INTO MY BACK. NO PROBLEMS TO REPORT AT THIS TIME AND ITS GREAT QUALITY PRODUCT. BOUGHT IT TO SECURE MY £1800 MTB ALONG WITH ABUS GRANIT X-PLUS SHACKLE. WOULD RECOMMEND BOTH IF YOU HAVE A EXPENSIVE MTB

Heavy build quality, long shackle, very good price but best of all - no keys. This means the lock stays on the front gate permanently and you don't have to go and find its keys, leave them back afterwards, kids cant lose them etc. Also friends who know the code can enter from the outside without a key. You do need light to enter the code but this is easily sorted. This keyless lock has made life much easier.

I have 3 on outside storage. I did add a drop of oil to each, but after a year and plenty of rain, these are all working perfectly with no sign of rust, unlike the ones they replaced.I like the feature where they will not latch unless you unset the correct combination - avoids putting them back and forgetting that you did not spin the wheels, leaving it insecure. Small thing, but very clever.

solid lock. long story, but i managed to leave my bike in a city centre and then wasnt able to get back to collect if for about 5 weeks. When i went back the bike was gone, but the lock was still there fully intact. I'm guessing the council took the bike by cutting through it having failed to get through the lock. Easy to carry - i just wrap it round the bar below the seat.

Great lock would recommend for peace of mind and key replacement is available. Looking at this lock you can see why insurance companies rate them. I had to have a lock to this high standard to insure my cycle. I bought this from Zietech Elsenfeld in Germany as it was cheaper for the longer chain model. Can recommend them too as it was soon delivered via air freight.

Wow this is heavy. It feels like it will protect my bike. At least make it real hard to steal it. It would be nice to annoy a thief. As they are thick n stupid, Numpties that deserve nothing I feel they will get nothing from me. I feel happy with this lock. I really hope it does the job.Great quick Amazon delivery. Fast and free as I am a prime member. Cheers.

Solid with smooth operation and although winter is the real test, it looks promising. The way that you cant accidentally change the combination is a redeeming feature. Also, when you put in the correct combination, you must push it together (as if closing it) and allow it to spring open - another good feature.Good purchase with prompt delivery.
