I now own too many bike locks, but I got a good deal on this one. Comparing it to my Abus U-mini, it's a much more convenient size and it actually comes with an excellent bike mount. unfolding it and getting it around my wheel and frame can be a bit of a hassle, but no more than if I used a long D-lock to do the same thing. Not sure if I'd use it as my main lock, but I generally use the U-mini to lock the back wheel (and frame) to a post and then secure the front wheel to the frame using this, and the bright colours (the u-mini is bright yellow) certainly make it obvious that the bike is well secured, though whether you'd want to draw attention I'm not sure. I'm happy with the combination. This lock is a little short,I couldn't do much more with it than get my frame and wheel together, perhaps the longer models would be more adaptable. The way it folds also makes it a little awkward to get it around stuff and to get the final section back into the lock. It's not like a cable lock, each joint only rotates on one plane, so you can't just grab the end and put it through your wheel like a cable, you have to unfold, slot it through your wheel, then rotate the ends so that the lock is facing the right way and then get the final section in and lock it. The key also feels poor in comparison to the u-mini. The u-mini is unbelievably smooth and feels strong and well-engineered. This one feels like it's a little off, needs jiggling a bit and wants some encouragement to sort itself out, which is a shame.I paid about £20 for this. If you're looking for a primary lock, I'd probably recommend the Abus U-mini over this for an extra fiver or so, less moving parts to deal with and it just feels nicer to use. But as a secondary lock I can't imagine anything better really. Beats cables and definitely better than a second D-lock in terms of portability.

We all know you need a d-lock to secure your bike properly (you did know that right?) and we all know that ideally you should have two types of lock. Thieves either come with snips for a cable lock or a jack for a d-lock. There are lots of sites that will advise you how to lock your bike securely. (google for it, as links are not permitted in reviews) However most of those sites are aimed at commuters who are leaving their bikes on the street for some time. This is more of a shopping, or hair-cut type lock, but for a more expensive bike.First things first. No lock stands up against a petrol angle grinder, so think about that when you park your bike down a dark alley, so no one can see it.Well no one can see the guy with the petrol angle grinder cutting your locks off either. However assuming you're up against an opprtunist thief, this provides a great alternative. It is not possible to cut like a cable lock, but it's not easy to jack off like a d-lock either, but it's much much lighter than a good d-lock.So I'd not use this as one of my main 2 locks for commuting (I'd have a big chain and a big d-lock, both of which I'd leave in my office draw. However for a I'm enjoying my cycle and want to stop for a pint, it's great.

Having recently had my bike stolen and purchased a replacement a good lock was high on my agenda to secure my new purchase.I heard many good things about the Kryptonite Mini 7 lock so purchase one of them but while it is a good, strong lock. I found it a bit of a pain to carry as it was too big to mount on my frame.I doscovered the bordo line of Abus locks and they sounded like just the ticket. As flexible (ish) as chain locks but as tough as D Locks. The lock is a good size, easy enough to get it round the frame, rear wheel and a fixed mount. Folds up in to a nice compact size which you can mount on the frame in its rubber holder. The bars are covered in hard rubber to protect your frame aswell. When reading up on this lock I discovered that ABUS had released a sold secure silver rated version of the lock which I thought this one was. Sadly this lock is rated at bronze, as confirmed by the packaging.Overall, really like the lock but ended up swapping it for the silver rated lock from my local store which was at the same price.

A great little lock, sturdy, fairly heavy for its size, and fits neatly out of the way within the frame on my Tern folding bike thanks to the included holster.I have been using the lock for over a year now, and the rubber coating is one thing that is not terribly resilient, it has quite a few dings in it where little bits have been "chipped" away. That said, it is still nicely protected to make sure it doesn't damage my bike frame, it just looks "well used". The mechanism of the lock itself and the pivotting of the bars is pretty much as smooth as when it was new.The lock itself is sometimes slightly more of a challenge to get around things than a normal chain/cable, simply because of it's bars.It will go round pretty much anywhere that a chain will, but it sometimes needs a little more work to get it to go. It is a small price to pay for such a conveniently compact lock solution. It does its job excellently, and I'd be more than happy buying another one if for some reason I needed to.

I was fed up with carrying my old lock and this is a perfect replacement, its sold silver rated so good enough for my insurance company. I like the way it folds up into its holder and its secured via the bolts (not supplied) onto the frame of the bike. No rattling and hardly noticed the slight extra weight. Its also easy to use, just unlock, wrap round and lock. Only thing what irked me was the price about £20 more than a similar rated d lock but thats the price to pay for convenience and innovation I guess.

This can be defeated but you should grease the rivets to make it more difficult to use a bolt splitter. Use it in conjunction with a mini d lock. Rubber covered to stop it scratching the bike frame and making it difficult to cut. Keep it off the ground. Easier to store than a chain. For use on the front wheel and frame to secure to fixed point like a cycle bar. Such a set up requires at least three minutes of intensive heavy tools to break when a thief only has 30 seconds.

This is my go-to lock when commuting to work and going to town. It's small, doesn't weight too much and won't transfer dirt thanks to the little case it comes in, so you could carry it in a bag if you don't want to strap it on your bike.It also fits really nicely on a Brompton so it can travel with you everywhere. Just don't attach it over the sticker if you don't want scratch marks on the plastic!

Bargain price under £20. Suitable for my needs but beware of short length before buying. Abus security rating 10 out of 15.I also have the X plus Granit version (security rating 15 out of 15) which is more expensive and heavier, but if you can afford it worth the peace of mind otherwise this lock is suitable for the price, weight and security level provided.

If you want a lock that is easier to carry than a u-lock (smaller, a bit lighter and easier to attach to frame) but more secure than a cable lock then this is the one to go for. I suspect the unusual construction would need a drill or grinder to attack rather than the bottle jack and bolt cutters that are the usual tools of bike thieves.

The lightest silver rated lock I could find. Folds into a neat package and is great to carry around in a bag. More adaptable than a u-lock for locking bike to different objects. The rubber casing that it packs into for carrying is very difficult to close but I expect it'll stretch a bit and get easier.

how effective is this lock - can't tell you as thankfully no one has had a go at my bike (yet).the lock itself feels very solid, i like the coating - prevents scratches to the bike , also the storage mechanism is very clever.price and delivery as always with Amazon was excellent

Best lock there is.When I bought a new bike and gave this lock to the mechanics to atach it to the frame, they've admired the choice. :)This is more flexible than a U-lock, but just as secure, if not more.Would recommend it to a friend.

Take it from the pro's (No not me!!). This is the type of lock with plate metal is the kind cycle thieves hate the most. They can still defeat it, but it takes more time and effort than other locks. Expensive as hell.

Amazing lock for a cheap price. I needed a good lock and I found this on Amazon for an amazing price of 17 Pounds. Everywhere else it costs more than 40!! By the way, the lock I got has a security level of 10, not 9!

Product arrived a little late. Good solid bike lock. Easy to fold. A little bit difficult to open but because it has a special safe lock. Impossible to close the rubber case it came with after putting it inside.
