First baitcaster reel I've ever bought, spooling was easy enough. The retrieve is very smooth. The centrifugal brakes are placed on the left side under the plate, so adjusting on the fly isn't very ideal if you're out using the thing (at least for me, I don't happen to carry a phillips head screwdriver in my tackle box). After a few birdsnests and playing with the settings, its pretty much been easy to use.Handles the small channel catfish with ease. Casts a one ounce weight plus lure further than my old spinning reel by a good 20 yards.

Gorgeous piece of machinery. Got it for my boyfriend, who has had this model reel for ages. It's smooth and professional. Not for beginner fishers though! You have to be very careful when you cast this out, and use your thumb to slow and stop the line, and if you don't do it with a very controlled and practiced manner, the line will snatch up and become a rat's nest. Otherwise it's worth the practice. Great reel, excellent price.

bought my first abu from walmart impulse always used spinning reels and gave it a try got used to the reel and loved how it performed for such a cheap reel ended up upgrading quickly to this and was extremely impressed was smooth and cast a mile and on my third trip out with it i hauled in a 43 lb blue that fought like bull and the reel held up. the seller is amazing i recommend frank to all my friends.

Although some parts that were previously metal are now plastic, the overall quality seems to be the same. My last one lasted at least 10 years, including 30 days lost underwater from a redfish which also wanted it. Can't believe I snagged it a month later. Anyway, a simple cleaning and was back in business. It's fairly expensive, but worth it to me.

For the price I got when there was a sale, it doesn't perform a lot different from Record series even though there were less bearings. So I am very satisfied.My only dislike was the color system to the reels. It would have been better if it was glossy finish instead of Matt finish.

Very good starter reel. Made by very well known reputable brand and the performance live up to my expectation. Highly recommended.Only 4 stars because I am a bit disappointed with the packaging. Came with cheap paper box and only reel in it. No reel grease or oil in the box.

Purchased this as a Christmas gift and it was used the next day. In combination with the Rippin Lips pole my husband was thrilled with his Christmas gift. I would definitely recommend this reel to anyone looking for a good quality reel for an avid or novice fisherman.

Don't watch abu garcias video on how to tie braid onto a round reel if you're new to them. Caused a real headache and inaccurate review. Like most bad reviews of this product, mine was caused by user error ?

If you like ambassadeur reels, you will not be disappointed!! Haven't caught anything yet, but put 14 lb line with an Ugly Stick and it is ready to go. I am using for salt water trout fishing in the Gulf

I have been using Abu Garcia reels for many years and they have always worked great, This one is no different. I do miss the thumb screws on the side for easy access while maintaining the reel.

If you plan on doing any fishing for big catfish this is the reel for you. Smooth casting and has a great retrieval rate. The bait clicker is loud and let's you know when a fish has your line.

Great reel to have and own and it is Made in Sweden , Not China ( crap place to produce any product ) . Will definitely buy this reel again in future as long as it is Made in Sweden.

This is my favorite reel, casts great, I use it on a Chad Ferguson medium heavy whisker seeker rod with 30# braid and I've been slaying the channel cats and flathead with it.

I have two 5600s and two 6600s. I have used them for bass (freshwater) and specs (saltwater). I have even used one of the 6600 as a light surfcaster. These are great reels.
