I bought the 7artisans 35mm f1.2 (that's right eff one point two) lens. Initially I worried about buying a lens with a brand on it that I had never heard of. I did spend some time looking at their website, I bought the story, and then I placed my order. This 35mm lens is mechanical and optical. There are no electronics in it. No contacts to the camera body, no auto-focus, no image stabilization, and no automatic aperture movement. This is one of the reasons why it has a modest cost. The other two reasons are obvious, no positive brand value (yet), and Chinese origin. But what is it like? Well the packaging and accessories are everything you would want. The lens itself is handsome, and feels good in operation. The front piece of glass looks lovely. It looked completely in place on the front of my old Olympus micro 4/3 E-PL1 body. The body has image stabilization, and I dialed-in 35mm focal length. In use, you have to focus for yourself, and with the equivalent of a 70mm lens in the 35mm world, you do have to focus for yourself (I mentioned it twice now because it is important). In use you will also have to adjust the aperture ring yourself. The normal advice with lenses is that you get the best images when you stop them down two stops from wide open. I did that most of the time - choosing f4 for its good depth of field, but still relatively fast. My images were fine. I did play with photos at f1.2, images still very good, and I got the opportunity to choose what was in focus and what was out of focus. I like being in control.I have a regular zoom lens which has 35mm within its range, so I don't need this lens for its focal length. But to have that maximum aperture opens up low light photography, and the ability to throw the background out of focus. Also this 35mm lens is much smaller and lighter than an electronic zoom lens.Try to look past the brand, look past the low price, and if you want to focus and aperture for yourself, then this is an excellent buy. Think of it like this, in 10 years time we are all going to be lot more comfortable buying Chinese products with Chinese brands. Whereas right now we are buying Chinese products with western brands on.This is a mechanical and optical device - just like in the olden days, except now you get to press the button free of charge and not have to wait to get the photos back from Max Spielman (remember them?). It's a great and fast lens. I recommend it.
