I use Whipperman chains on both our road bikes and touring bikes. The last longer than any chain I have ever used at any price. The toolless, reusable quick link is great for touring bikes that often require cleaning in extreme circumstances in remote locations. Not having to carry several replacement links and special chain tools is a big plus.Thee shifting quality is outstanding. We've never missed a shift or had any chatter from either road or touring bikes, even in the worst conditions. We average about 8000 miles of road and loaded touring per year. I've had Whipperman chains last 3, 8000 mile seasons before replacing.I do remove the chains and clean them in a solvent tank monthly on the road bikes.Touring bikes get their chains cleaned however possible while touring. Sometimes in a Diesel fuel bath at a truck stop, sometimes a bike shop cleaning tank and sometimes with Dawn dish soap and a hose in a campground followed by a good oiling. By the way, I've found synthetic chainsaw bar/chain to be the best bike chain lube ever.

UPDATE:I had a Real Bike Dude(tm) tune my drivetrain and the problems I had with the chain are gone! Adjusting the review to reflect it. Excellent chain now.I got this to replace the stock chain on my 2012 Tarmac Pro. Crazy easy to install, clean look -- feels like quality. Loved it!Until my first ride. It skips on my 11-tooth cog. Like it's trying to catch the next cog up, and then drops back down. No amount of RD adjusting mad sit stop. "Okay," says I. "Must need a new cassette, too. Next time I'll replace the chain sooner." So I dutifully replaced my cassette. The skipping is still there. Additionally, the FD rubs when in the big ring and in one of the 2-3 highest gears (smallest, right-most cogs)in the rear. Either I can make it so it doesn't rub, but the chain shifts right of the ring, or I can live with it rubbing.Based on these two things, I gotta believe the chain is a little bit wider than a standard 10 speed chain from SRAM or Shimano. Maybe it works for some set-ups, but not mine.

This Wipperman Connex 10sX SS Chain (10-Speed) shifts crisply on my road bike with my Shimano 105 deraileurs and SRAM cassette. I love the master link which makes chain removal very easy. This chain also looks fantastic because of the stainless steel inner links and nickel plated outer links. The best thing though, is that it wears very slowly. Over 2,000 miles on this chain and after going to the garage and checking it with my chain checker tool it still isn't showing any wear! (Not even close to .50). If I ride in dry conditions I clean my drivetrain about every 500 miles with Simple Green and a chain scrubbing brush. If I get caught riding in the rain then I clean it ASAP.Keep it clean and it will shine for a long time!I've ridden for over 20 years and 30,000 miles. I've used Shimano, KMC, SRAM and Wipperman Connex chains and I'm staying with the Wipperman unless something better comes along.

This is a great chain! It is very durable and removes without tools (bare hands only) for cleaning. It re-attaches securely without having to buy new master links or use special tools either (also bare hands only). I have about 3000 miles on this chain now without any significant stretching as measured by my Park chain tool. I ride up steep hills and put a lot of stress on my chains, and this has held up well. It is much stronger than the soft SRAM chain my drive train came with originally. I am riding a SRAM Red set-up on a titanium frame. Shifting quality is excellent with this chain. I have no issues with rough travel or slow or rough shifting. Beware - do not install it with the master link upside down. You must look carefully to install the master link in the proper direction to avoid chain slippage and drive train damage. I have had on this chain on my road bike for the past 500 or so miles and it has been great. The quick release link is what really puts it over the top. It is better than the sram 10 speed quick release because unlike SRAM 's it is not a one time use and it is easy to remove compared to KMC.KMC chain that was on my bike I could not remove the quick link and it was to the point I gave up and put a chain break on their as the chain was past its life. The Wipperman chain well lets use say it has been great and I have removed the chain a few times for cleaning. It makes it a lot easier to just take the chain off and spray the degreaser on it. I can not say the enough good things about this chain and I will be using Wipperman chains from now one.Including on my mountain bike when that SRAM chain wears out.

Sometimes we cyclists mix and match components for whatever reason, just like manufacturers do. Choosing the proper chain is more difficult with the newer 10 speed "groups" as dimensions are critical to optimum performance, and the major manufacturers have each chosen different chain widths. The Wipperman Connex 10 speed chain (stainless steel in this review) chooses a width that works with ALL 10 speed groups! OH yes, if your name is Leipheimer or Hincape you "might" notice a modicum of difference in some perfect universe, but you're NOT that guy (Sorry Levi or George if it's really you). The chain is quick to fit, comes nicely lubricated and the Connex "Link" is the real deal.Lasts longer than the expensive chains from the major manufacturers.

If you haven't tried a Wipperman, then you haven't enjoyed the optimized and quiet shifting that you could be enjoying. Sure it seems like an extravagant purchase, but one ride and you will quickly see, hear and feel the difference. I like the stealth gear changes I get with this chain and it looks nice too. The gear changes are quick and VERY smooth, both going up or down and even under load. I can now say that I've tried all of the popular chains in the last 3-4 years and even though it costs a bit more, it also seems to last a bit longer and that helps preserve my expensive cassettes as well. It comes with the connex link to easily remove it for cleaning and lubrication too.I just can't say enough good things about this chain.

I'm sure the first reviewer had the quick release link installed upside down. I did the same thing. Who knew these links had an up and down to them? After catching the error the chain has given me 5500 miles and it's time for a new one. The all stainless version is tempting, but I wear chains out quickly enough, I doubt the extra corrosion resistance would be a plus.

I'm sure it will last as others say, but as a bit of a lazy/forgetful shifter, I find it ghost shifts under power when cross chained (Big ring, large (inner) cassette gears for slow speeds and vice versa), unlike a SRAM that's been worn in a bit. I've played with all the adjustments, lubed it well, and that's just how it is.

I live next to the ocean...salty environment. This chain is corrosive resistant , easy to take on and off for cleaning , no problems shifting with my 10 speed shimano geared mountain bike. I ride 2-3 times a week and this chain will last 6-12 months. An excellent product and service from amazon!

It's easy to like the Wipperman Connex. Simple and easy to use. I recommend it for anyone who maintains their own bicycle chains.

16.12.2014

Shifts well so far. Hope it last longer than the KMC X10SL chains that I had to buy each year.
