Another solid tool for my Victorinox collection. This one particularly suited for camping & outdoors work, on a construction or building site or for those looking for a knife for boating. The one hand opening locking blade on mine has some play hence the loss of a star but the lock itself seems very strong. I think a lock, though legally "iffy" in the UK is an important safety feature in a folding knife used hard. The point of the main blade curves down to meet edge and is rounded making digging the point in harder work but safer from an accidental thrust whilst cutting. Hence why I think for boating, canoeing etc it would be a good knife. The edge of the knife is serrated at the front then a plain, chisel edge for the last inch towards the ricasso. It slices through material with ease as the edge was very sharp when it arrived. The serrations make short work of wood, plastic & fibrous material like rope, the palin smooth edge nearer the fingers allow more controlled carving & cutting. the steel used for all blades is both easy to sharpen & very resistant to rust. (None of my SAKs have ever rusted, even when used in salt water but I do tend to rinse, dry & oil the pivots after use.)the wood saw chews through wood, plastic with ease, the screwdrivers, a large flathead, small flathead/philips & a dedicated philips are all good, strong & adequate if you cannot get to a tool box. the large screwdriver locks in place and makes a very strong pry bar. There is also a reamer/bodkin/spike.The one hand opening hole, to which i was converted to some years ago by Spyderco knives over the pins often seen on OHO knives are good for both left & right handers. If you are new to the opening hole method & find it difficult to launch the blade, persevere. You will find it eventually becomes second nature. The absence of protrusions on the blade make it a far better tool as it does not snag on the material being cut.Based on the soldiers knife, I prefer this iteration as I like the material the scales are made from, which seem to be glass fiber & the addition of the tweezers .My knife was cheaper as it was a previous amazon returned item. It was missing the toothpick. Not bothered.

In the early 50's I recall seeing a film called 'Inferno'. It starred Robert Ryan who played a man left stranded in a Californian desert with a broken leg. He was able to survive his ordeal by making great use of his multi purpose penknife. I think it was a Swiss Army Knife. If it wasn't one, it should have been. As a result, shortly afterwards, I bought my first one which is still going strong. It is also something of a survivor as it accidentally dropped from my pocket a couple of years ago while walking our dog. Searching next day, I found it lying in the road. It was covered with muck and looked a sorry sight. It had obviously been run over by passing traffic. It was taken home, given a good wash and oiling and cleaned up surprisingly well. Apart from some minor damage to the red covering; a small corner of which had broken off, everything works perfectly. I continue to use it every day to slice fruit for myself and my dog while out on our walk! A great advert for the manufacturers. This is the fifth Swiss Army Knife I have bought over the years and, like all the rest, it is a thing of quality. Beautifully designed and finished, the high standard of the materials speak for themselves. Slightly larger than my other purchases, it is, nevertheless, extremely portable and will accompany me on all outings other than my dog walking ones. I particularly like the main locking blade and am impressed with the design of the saw which will see much use keeping our garden shrubs in order. I know I will make great use of the other tools, especially the toothpick. A Swiss Army toothpick has saved me a lot of tooth-sucking frustration over the years.Living a rural life style for the past 20 years, I can thoroughly recommend this firm and their products to anyone.

These "new" models really offers good Swiss quality, compared to the classic ones. Not saying the classic ones are bad, because they are not. But these new models are even better! They feel much more sturdy, and the blade offers one handed opening and lock mechanism as well, for better safety when using it.But while opening the blade can be done with one hand, it's much harder to close it single-handily, if you're right-handed. This is because how the lock release is located. If you're left-handed, then you'll have no problem at all opening and closing the blade with your left hand. You can still close the blade with your right hand, but it requires some training to get used to.This pocket knfe offer some rather basic functions,it's good when you know that you won't be needing the other stuffs, since it reduces the weight on the knife, and it can be made smaller. It's well-made, very sturdy, even more than the classic red ones. Just keep in mind that it has a lock blade, so check out your country's laws about knife-carrying before carrying it in public places.

I have several pocket knives (most of them Victorinox/Swiss Army) as I like to have a knife for every occasion. I have been known to put off leaving the house until I fond my trusty Swiss Army pocket knife. Ridiculous I Know but I really use the heck out of them.I was looking for a lock-blade version of what I carry normally for hiking with the dogs. This knife is a bit bigger than I was expecting, but I have large hands so it's not a problem. When it's closed, the blade hump extends a few mm's out from the body of the knife to allow room for thumb opener hole. Excellent quality and I love the black finish as it stands out from the rest. The screwdrivers are bigger than on the standard Victorinox knives; another plus for me.The body is slightly contoured so it feels better in the hand than a standard Victorinox. For the price, I can't imagine anything of higher quality that stands up to everyday use.An excellent product!

It arrived fast and is just right.I have a couple of Victorinox already - Huntsman and Spartan - and love them. The Spartan is a perfect EDC.The reason I wanted the Trailmaster is the desire for a larger blade/saw for when out in the woods etc. The lock blade is essential as I have occasionally had a blade fold on my fingers. AND IT HURTS. The stupid rules on lock blades are a hazard but as long as you have a reason to carry (work, camping, hiking, fishing, bushcraft etc) you s/be OK. Just don't take it to an urban pub, transport or shopping centre etc. Stay away from the kind of inner city knife crime spots and I guess you would be OK unless you have the misfortune to meet a jobsworth policeman. This, together with a multitool in your pack, and you s/be OK for most eventualities. The only odd thing is the knife locking mechanism that appears more suited to left handers but, c'est la vie.

Oh my lord - what a beauty! I got It in hand and was star struck by the immense craftsmanship behind It. Brilliant in every way. Such beauty and pleasant feel are rare to find. In fact I haven't got the heart to put It to use. At least It shall sit on my desk and shine for a loong time before I gently let it slide some plastic. Damned be all the years that passed by without me being really aware of this brand. Now, this sort of a construction are not meant to perform heavy duty tasks on a building site for example. Nor in the garage or hobby room either. That's another league. Think of it as a nice little companion that may sort out random light wight tasks that pops up here and there. There is most likely one to be found in Gyro Gearloose' pocket. Go for it fellows - It's is Swiss made!

I can only echo what has already been said. This is a solid, no-nonsense knife that should be a must for the outdoors. No foolishness, no complications, just things that do actually work well. The saw, for example, cuts very well and is exceptional for making tinder in a very short time. The can opener works like wonder; the screwdrivers are solid. One thing I'd like to add: this knife suits very well left-handed people. The liner-lock for the main blade needs to be pressed from left to right, so it becomes an easy movement for the left-handed person. I find it very good, I can open and close the blade with one hand, no problems. Can't even think to use another knife now, this was money well spend.

I bought this after already owning one of the red lock knives. Excellent quality and the single handed opening does work. Its a little lever within the blades to unlock the main blade so this is slightly more fiddly to use compared to the side mounted unlock button and the red models. Note that, in my opinion, such one handed opening knives can be viewed as slightly more controversial to have about your person. I mainly have this with me in my mountain biking bag and would not, for example, take this with me on a weekend trip away (where i would take something like the excellent mini-swiss champ). I dont think the police would be happy with you walking the streets with this.

I bought one of these to use at work, the serrated knife easily slices through insulation tape and heavy duty plastic bags and the screwdriver has been very useful when repairing equipment that was worked loose. One thing to note is that due to the length of the blade, the locking feature and the ability to open the blade with one hand that this knife is not quite legal to carry around in the UK unless you have good reason to carry it (for example you use it for work).I would recommend a different Swiss Army Knife if you will be carrying it around in public, just to avoid any over-eager coppers. In short though, this is a brilliant SAK and is well worth the money.

Very pleased with this knife, which I keep in my buoyancy aid as a rescue knife when I am on safety boat duty at our sailing club. Didn't really need the saw blade, but other than that it is ideal. Much cheaper than the yellow one that sells itself as a rescue knife and just as good. Larger than your average pen knife, but still legal. Screwdriver blade locks out as well as the main blade which is useful. Would be great if the spike locked out too as it has a tendency to snap shut when you are trying to free a tight knot. Final point - much more useful to have a knife like this with a cross-head screw driver instead of a corkscrew.

This knife is beautifully designed. The main blade is very easy to pull out, which makes a pleasant change after years of struggling with the blade on my red Victorinox knife. The main blade is slightly serrated, which makes it versatile. The little saw is efficient and can cut through small branches. The main blade locks into position, so you may need to be thoughtful about where you carry this knife if your country legislates on lock-knives.This knife is slightly larger than the red pocket-knives so is good for taking out into the country with you.If only it had scissors on it, too, it would be perfect.

I’ve used this for far too many things to list. From cutting boxes to sawing through wires and cables. I’ve cut food items and I’ve sawed through small bits of wood. I’ve even used the main blade to cut bits of chalk and pumice. The blade locks which makes it far more useful than the non-locking swiss army knives. Unfortunately, this also means it isn’t legal for you to carry it around in the UK. The blade is also that bit too long according to UK legislation, so you need a good reason to have it on you.Personally, I’m glad I bought it, and I would definitely recommend it.

I have had this knife for some time: first class. However you cannot legally carry this knife in the UK in a public place without reasonable excuse. It is up to the courts to decide what is reasonable so you must understand the legislation and be able to explain your case to any police officer who asks you why you are carrying it before you consider carrying it in a public place.Bottom line a lock knife (because it locks!!) is not covered by the general exemption that allows an adult to carry a folding blade of up to 3 inches in length in a public place.

Easy to open due to the large "one hand opening hole", a real boon in cold weather when a normal blade would be very hard to open.Easy to sharpen due to the serrations, that u just hone with a round Arkansas stone (or what ever u have). The serrations are put on the front part of the edge, and that makes complete sense to me (and the German military who designed it). Makes opening/cutting of fibrous materials easy. The saw is the best in the world, no other pocket tool's saw cut like this one, simply outstanding!Sensibly equipped with a lanyard ring.

just used this to finish up a mortise and tenon joint outdoors. Do not be put off by the serrated blade folks.. it shaves cross timber beautifully thinly so you can achieve a great 90 degree joint even with a limited woodworking set of tools. I doubted this blade style when I first received the knife but after using it I find it was a well considered choice and tough as heck. Just need to work out how to keep it sharp ( I bet there something on youtube to help). Just the best choice for wild camping, building shelter etc. It is the cat's pyjamas...peace
