I once went into the woods wearing nothing but the Hiker duct taped to my thigh. I wanted to see if I could survive a day. After a while, I was getting hungry, so I hunted me a squirrel. I snuck up on the little bugger as quiet as a mouse fart, then stabbed it with the long blade. No worries, the little feller died a quick and humane death. I then used the short knife to skin it. Then I needed a fire, because we all know squirrel meat is best when cooked medium rare...am I right? I used the wood saw to cut myself several small branches. I rubbed two of those lil' sticks together, and presto zesto...a fire. While I waited for the meat to roast, I used the small blade again...to cut long pieces of sinew from the skin still attached to the fur.The wire stripper was great at stretching the sinew out into long and thin "threads". I used some sinew as thread to fashion the rest of the squirrel pelt into a nice little man-thong. The reamer has a sewing eye, so it was easy peazy. It was nice to finally cover my giblets, and the thong was warm and perfect (though a tad bit slimy). I then ate my roasted squirrel, and continued walking. As I was walking, I came across a couple gals hiking through the woods. I gave them a nice wave "hello", and for some reason, they took off running. One was so scared she dropped her bag to move faster, I guess. I have no idea what the problem was. Sure, I still had a little squirrel blood on my hands. But I was wearing a mighty fine, and high quality (if I say so myself) fur thong. Fur is a universal sign of high class folk, so they must have been fearful that they were trespassing on a rich man's property (them believing that rich man was me, of course...with my fancy furs and all). Anyway, I picked up the bag and tried to run it back to the gals, but they ran even faster. They kept running and ignoring my screams of "Stop running from me! I have something for you!" I soon tired. The running made me pooped, and squirrel don't fill the belly for long. If I had eaten an opossum, I would have still been full...but a squirrel ain't nothing.I heard rattling in the bag, which sounded like something canned and likely edible. I decided that common law probably would establish said bag was now my property since the gals abandoned it and I made first claims. So I unzipped the bag and saw 2 beer bottles (thankfully still cold) and some cans of chili. Those gals probably saved my life, because I would have likely fainted from starvation had they not bestowed me with these vittles. But I'm sure I also saved them from a night of bad gas (seriously, beer and chili?). So I considered us even. I used the Hiker's bottle opener to pop open a beer. Then the can opener for the chili cans. I didn't bother making another fire, as I was mightily faintish and in need of nourishment ASAP. After eating, I used the Hiker's toothpick to get the bean skins out my teeth. Then I used the tweezers to pluck out a few splinters from my feet.My stomach was starting to get upset, and I thought I remembered hearing that eating bark stops it. Probably a bunch of bull, but I was nearly naked, and desperately hindered by a belly ache. I used the wood saw to cut a branch, then used the flat screwdriver to peel off the corky part of the bark (you don't eat the corky park). Then I chewed the fresher underneath bark. It didn't really help my gas, but at least now I can sound outdoorsy when I tell people that I ate bark. I realized that the Hiker had a key ring, so I punctured a hole into my fur thong with the reamer and hung my Swiss Army Knife from the key ring. I sort of passed out shortly after. I woke up the next day. I was tired, sick, and covered in rashes. I survived, though.I give the Victorinox Swiss Army Hiker 5/5 stars. It has versatile tools. However, the Philips screwdriver is useless...as this was the only tool I did not use. Probably could have used a corkscrew instead.

I wanted a knife for general everyday use, and as someone whose life is mostly urban and not as outdoors as I’d like, I settled on the Hiker. With Victorinox offering such a staggering variety of options, I looked into the various tool configurations and this seemed to be best for me.First of all, you know you’re going to get a solid knife from Victorinox. I had my first one as a child around 30 years ago and I don’t feel like the quality has dropped at all in that time. They’re solid, well made, the blades come nice and sharp and, although I’ve not had to test it in any particularly trying situations, they do feel tough enough to withstand a great deal of use. Looked after properly,I’m confident this will last me as long as I want it to. I’ve given it a drop of oil when the hinges started to stiffen slightly, but haven’t needed to sharpen the blades yet and they’re still going strong.I’ve used every tool on here at some point. The two blades are perfect for opening heavily-taped parcels of different sizes, and I’ve also done a little bit of small wood carving with them. Also useful for cutting apples if you’re that way inclined. Screwdrivers speak for themselves, and although I’d use an actual screwdriver given the choice, it’s nice always having one to hand and they do the job fine. The bottle opener works well, and I’ve tried the can opener just because. It’s obviously not as easy as a normal kitchen one, but it works and could be a handy space-saver when camping. This is probably the one tool on the Hiker I wouldn’t miss, but since it’s also combined with the 3mm screwdriver, it does maximise the function.I’ve used the saw a couple of times and was amazed by how capable it is for the size — those teeth are no joke. Out walking one day, I found an uprooted young tree about 3” in diameter. Sawing off a section to take home for a project did need a little elbow grease but not nearly as much as you’d expect. It even cut through cleanly and neatly, leaving a nice flat surface. After watching some videos online I’ve realised how useful the saw is, actually. Although I haven’t tried it myself, it can be used to split fairly large logs, so would be all you need for preparing firewood. The reverse of the blade offers up all sorts of other uses, including peeling veg; this I have tried, and it’s surprisingly effective! Just be careful using the reverse, because it doesn’t lock open. The tucked-away toothpick and tweezers are a nice little edition. Although I’m yet to find many uses for the toothpick beyond the obvious, a pair of tweezers is always good to have for things like picking up tiny objects and planting seeds very precisely. The tweezers are a little bit flimsy, but they’re good enough, and the thin metal keeps them easy to store while cutting down the overall weight of the knife.Occasionally, I’ve thought it would be useful to have one of the models with scissors, but I don’t think I’d be willing to swap out another tool, and I like the size of this knife because it’s ideal for easy everyday carry. Most things I’d use the scissors for can be done with the small blade anyway — cutting string etc.I’m absolutely happy with my choice, and I’ve found myself reaching for it way more often than I’d expected. If I decide to buy a new knife and pass this down at some point, I’m confident it will still be working perfectly for many years to come.

I own several Victorinox Swiss Army Knives. I have always had one in my pocket or close at hand for 35 years. I own: Swiss Champ, Tinker, Super Tinker, Hiker, Trekker and Mini-Champ. Each serves a purpose, but at the end of the day what we are all usually looking for is a knife blade. Victorinox uses good quality stainless steel that holds a good edge. If you use the knife for it's intended purpose it will last you many years. My Swiss Champ is about 20 years old and still going strong.I also frequently carry a Victorinox SwissTool that I have had for 15 years and have taken on 4 deployments to Afghanistan. It is a fantastic multi-tool...in my opinion the best one on the market. The Hiker is very similar to the Super Tinker, except this has a wood saw instead of the scissors, and the Super Tinker has that little multipurpose hook. As will all Victorinox products this is a top quality pocket knife that will give you years of service. If you want a larger knife with the same features you should look at the Trekker. I have the one-handed trekker with the serrated blade, but they make it with a plain edge without the one handed opening "hole" on the blade if that floats your boat. The Hiker comes in handy if you need a reasonably sized pocket knife that has just enough tools to get the job done without feeling like you are carrying a brick in your pocket. The Swiss Champ (or the larger sized version of this knife, the Trekker) will weigh your pocket down. My Swiss Champ is in my everyday backpack that goes pretty much everywhere I go. The Hiker or Super Tinker are in my pocket.Everybody knows how all of the tools work on this one but some my have questions about the saw. Well, it works extremely well for cutting branches, limbs small firewood when camping etc. I have even cut a 2x4 with it.You ARE NOT going to rebuild the transmission on your 69 Camaro with it, or any other SAK or multi-tool, but if you need a good quality pocket knife with a few tools to get you through your day this, or any of the SAKs will do the job.

This is a fantastic, sturdy, tough little knife. As I have stated before, I have a large collection of Swiss Army knives and the toughest are the alox models, that's a given...the Farmer has the most robust and useful selection of tools and it's my favourite... BUT!! The hiker has the same tool selection of tools PLUS a small blade,Philips screwdriver, toothpick and tweezers. Now then, I did some testing of my knives and have too say this hiker is a cracking tool! Here's why... 1/ an EDC should be low cost and easily replaceable, that's the hiker.. £15 is no money at all compared to the farmer which is anywhere between £25-£35. 2/for some reason the narrower the SAK the more the backsprings seem to be a lot tighter and hold the tools in place more firmly than the larger models with more layers. 3/ you get a full length back spring on the saw just like the farmer and it's just as tough. 4/ the large screwdriver from 2000 onwards on the 91mm knives have a nib on the shank joining the body of the knife which helps it from shutting under pressure. As big and thicker the farmer driver is it doesn't have that feature. 5/ you can change the scales if damaged or if you want the plus scales to hold the pen, pin, as well as the toothpick and tweezers. This is one of the most popular swiss army knives and one of victorinox's best sellers. I have 4 of these little diamonds now so I can always lay my hand on one.. if I'm going to give a SAK to someone for a present then it will always be a hiker.. it's that good and I highly recommend it. Go on YouTube and type in batoning with a swiss army knife to see just how tough this little knife is..

Although I own many, many knives,of all styles, and makes,I have never owned any Victorinox products,as TBH,I always thought the 'swiss army knife' was a product of style over function (I have had a couple of cheap replicas over the years, all which ended up in the bin),and I have to say,I was rather taken aback at the quality of this little tool!.The quality is unquestionable, all the blade/tool tolerances are spot on,all blades/tools are easily opened, but tight enough not to be wobbly in the slightest, and all seem of a high quality for the cost of the product (I paid £9.99).And unlike any of my other knives,or multi-tools,this one is totally UK EDC compliant,so I can carry it around in my pocketwithout worry, which makes a nice change!.If I was to 'nit pick',the only things I could pick up on are that the scales seem as though they would scratch fairly easily, and the two blades are a bit on the thin side for my liking, but they should be fine for day to day use, like package opening!.The blades are fairly sharp out of the box,but needed a bit of stropping to get them really sharp, but all my knife blades have needed some amount of work to get them to their best, including knives that cost 10 times the amount that this little Victorinox did!.All in all,a great little EDC,that has most of the tools you will use on a day to day basis,at a great price.TBH,I was so impressed with the quality,I shall be purchasing a Victorinox multi-tool,instead of a Leatherman for my Christmas present!.

For new scouts I usually recommend the Tinker or for a little less money, the Recruit. I bought a Tinker many years ago when I was a Scout and both of my Scout sons have the Tinker. I recently upgraded to the non-serrated Trekker. The Hiker adds a saw to the TInker's set of tools. Why on earth they have corkscrews on the Camper and lots of other Swiss Army Knives has always puzzled me... even the Victorinox with the Offical Boy Scout logo (the Camper) has a corkscrew... what on earth are Boy Scouts going to do with a corkscrew? ...but I digress. Victorinox still hade THE BEST can opener design of and of the "Swiss Army Knives", I've had them all and they are all frustrating once you learn to use the Victorinox properly, and it leaves a much cleaner cut. If you just want a blade without all of the tools, get a nice locking blade knife and put a US Army P-38 can opener on your keychain. I bought this knife as a prize for one of my Scouts who just spend a week with this knife at scout camp, and it's great. The saw works well on wood about 1" in diameter, which is good for a cooking fire or cutting a pole for your shelter. If you are skilled with a hatchet, and it's a good hatchet, then the saw might not be all that importat for you - and for a cooking fire you can break most wood by hand, but I don't always want the weight of my hatchet. It would be cool if they put a slot on the saw for use as a fish hook removal tool.

I received my first version of this knife back when I was about 10 years old as a birthday present from my dad. I picked it out, knowing I wanted a saw blade rather than the scissors because my thinking was in a pinch I can cut anything I might need with the knife, and I would get more use from the saw blade anyway. My first knife had the corkscrew rather than the Phillips head screwdriver. As a kid I think I would have had more use for the Phillips rather than the corkscrew, and now I think I might want the corkscrew, but my head was clearer when I was younger so maybe I'll get more use from the screwdriver. Lol. This is one knife that I have had off and on growing up and now I have it again.Sometimes I would lose it, or give it away to someone but it never broke on me, everything always stayed sharp. It was perfect for me when I was younger and harder on my tools, so it should hold up really well for me now that I am older and wiser too. This knife is like an old friend to me.

Always wanted a Swiss Army knife and its taken me until I was 30 to actually buy one. I bought primarily for work as up until now I have been using a leatherman Skeletool but due to it being illegal to carry it was too much of a risk getting caught with it in public. The knife comes in a simple grey box and inside is the knife and a little instruction manual. The knife is finished in the traditional glossy red colour that does appear to show finger prints as do the blades.sizing infoHandle:Length: 9.1cmWidth: 2.7cm at widest pointDepth: 1.6cmWeight: 77gAccessory info:Side 1Large Knife Length: 7cm (about 2 3/4 inches)Small Knife Length: 4.2cmSaw Length: 7.6cm (3 inches)Bottle Opener Length: 3.5cmwith a size 6 flat head screwdriver at the tipCan Opener Length: 3.5cm with a size 3 flat head screwdriver at the tipSide 2Point Length: 3.7cmScrew Driver: 3.7cm and it has a size 2 Phillips headThe knife itself feels solid and well made.

I bought the victorinox hiker as a general multitool for when I am out camping or even a day out walking. It can come in handy for so many different things. Brings back memories of my childhood when I used to have one similar but wasn't the real deal. This is the real deal, it's really well made and has a solid feel to it.Both blades small and large were really sharp out of the box. The saw is a really nice size and comes very sharp. Can saw through a small branch with ease. The screwdrivers are a nice bonus too, you just never know when you may need one. Bottle and can openers so useful for when out camping or doing a spot of wild cooking on a hike etc.Small blade is good for whittling too, some good videos on youtube of these knives in use.You can tell the quality and feel of this knife in your hand, I got it for a really good price on offer. I've already used it for so many things already.I would recommend this knife it's really good!

Very happy with this. It's a very good knife, has and keeps a good edge, sharpens well too.Good enough for what I need, for general use. I have one with more blades, wanted a second one that was smaller and simpler plus kind of couldn't resist getting another. Actually it's not much thinner than my other (huntsman), both are very well sized. Anyhow, very satisfied, wouldn't want to be without one. There's occasionally / always something unexpected that turns up that these can fix or help; when something does, very very glad to have one on hand. The first one I ordered was lost in shipping, I contacted amazon first and they replaced it no charge, so am very grateful for the super service.I worked shipping some, for years, and sometimes / almost no matter what you do stuff can get lost or damaged. So I don't fault the seller or the shipper or amazon, just sorry we all had to run into a snag. But really appreciate the help and replacement.

I chose this particular knife because it had the selection of blades I needed. I wanted a legal carry knife to use instead of carrying my usual Leatherman which has a locking blade (making it illegal to carry around in the UK without a valid reason) I do miss the usefulness of Leatherman pliers but other than that this is a reasonably good replacement. Both blades were razor sharp on arrival as was the saw. I do a lot of wood whittling and find the blades hold their edge well (not as good as an Opinel, but they have locking blades of high carbon steel) considering they are stainless steel. The only real criticism I have is the lanyard connector which gave me a blister when carving spoons,That was soon solved with a couple of minutes use of an angle grinder and some fine wet and dry paper. Not being a wine drinker I dont miss the corkscrew usually found on this type of knife, in fact I looked for a knife without one.

She's my 1st SAK and it's a great tool. I had usually carried a leatherman wave and for bigger jobs i'd def still choose it, but for EDC when I don't expect to be away from home this is an amazing lightweight tool that packs so much into a small package. The cons for me are that the can opener is decent to other tools i've had, and that the tools don't lock. That said, you know what you're getting when you purchase this tool. You're getting a ton of great stuff in a small lightweight package and everything seems to be of great quality. The tweezers and toothpick are a godsend, and the saw hides away to where you almost miss it.I gave it 4 stars because of small things such as locking tools and decent can opener but i'd buy another one in a second if I ever lost it. These are amazing EDC items every man should own.

I absolutely love this knife. I try and spend as much time outdoors as possible. As such, the things I wanted the most were a blade (obviously), saw, and tweezers (for pulling out seemingly endless splinters). The thing I did NOT want is a cork screw. I've yet to stumble across an unopened bottle of wine in the woods that just had to be opened and drank at the moment (yes I realize you can use a corkscrew for different things but I just don't need one especially for the real estate it takes up in a knife.) Obviously when you talk about tweezers, Victorinox is where you're looking but precious few fulfil those needs without the dreaded space hogging corkscrew. This one does. It is my 'dress'carry. The other knife that fulfills the above requirements but is much bigger is

I had one of these for many years but had to chuck it away recently because I didn't want to be considered a terrorist as I went through customs in Heathrow airport! I forgot to take it out of my bag before I left home! Once I'd binned it, I saw you could actually post items home to yourself that you're not meant to take through... I was proper annoyed with myself! So, I decided to buy a new one and when I looked at the picture, I thought: "Blimey, it's got a saw!" Now I know what that big thick bit of metal was running down the centre of my old one. I never knew my old one had a saw, and I had it for years!!This has been the best screwdriver, can opener, utility knife and (unbeknown to me)wood saw that I've owned that fits in my pocket... so good, I bought it again.

I have the largest and smallest Victorinox knives and wanted something more sensible for camping. One thing I hate about most knives is the corkscrew. This might be there for Europeans who love their wine, but I'd never use it and it's just a waste of space to me. What I like about the Hiker is that there's no corkscrew and it's replaced by a Philips screwdriver. Admittedly, not much better than a corkscrew for camping, but at least it's something I might use sometime. The knife is pretty small and light, much more so than my over-the-top Swiss Champ, so it's now part of my overnight pack. Quality is as you'd expect, which is good. The price is cheap as well,so definitely a good buy if you don't get uncontrollable urges to uncork wine bottles in the great outdoors.
