I was not sure whether I had taken the right step in purchasing the Ventura product as the quality was unknown to me. However, I was reassured by the good construction and simple instructions when the pack arrived. The stated weight capacity is 25Kg. The package was quite shallow and therefore it was easy for me to insert this into my bike box for overseas travel for installation at my destination. The Ventura installation was ideally suited to my bike, a brand new disc-braked Trek 7.2 FX Hybrid. There were existing lugs either side of the seat stay that already had bolts in place. As this was my first attempt at fitting a rear rack,I was a little nervous as to which rear holes to use on the rear drop outs and I assumed that the second hole was for a mudguard fitting. I used the first set of holes nearest the pedals and found that using these did not interfere at all with the disc brake set-up. In fact I found it best to start here and to commence bolting on the vertical brackets to take the V arms. The V frames can be best attached to the top load platform off the bike. I then found I had to gently push out the bottom of the V frames to be able to slot them into the vertical brackets. I could see that pushing out the bottoms of the V frames would effectively move any pannier bags further away from the wheels. There are plenty of holes on the vertical uprights for adjusting the height of the load platform. Then I set about attaching the front brackets to the load platform and then to the bolts either side of the seat stays. All bolts were loosely fitted and then tightened when everything looked fine and the load platform was level. The only tools I used were a Stanley ratchet screw driver with 3/4/5mm hex bits and a ratchet with 7 and 10mm sockets. Alternatively, you could use a metric allen key set plus 7mm and 10mm spanners. All the nuts came with Nyloc inserts but one 4mm nut had no thread, so a trip to my local DIY shop was required. After the installation, the following items were spare - 2x6mm bolts, 2x5mm nuts, a U bridge bracket and 2 rubber coated seat stay clips. The U bracket and rubber clips would have been useful for bikes without seat stay lugs and the 6mm bolts would have been used for seat stay lugs where the original bolts were absent. I presume the spare 5mm nuts should have gone onto the bolts fixing the vertical brackets to the rear dropouts. However, these bolts were short and did not poke out the other side of the frame. If the brackets had to share the same holes as the mudguard stays then the 5mm bolts would definitely be too short. If I were asked what modifications would be useful, I would say that moving further rearwards the tube to which the load spring was attached, would allow the spring to lie comfortably on top of a double pannier set-up, giving extra security for keeping the panniers in place and placing the panniers further from the pedals. Some extra Nyloc nuts would have been useful. Other than this, I think the whole kit is good quality, light but robust and excellent value. Installation time was about 20 minutes. I even think it gave me more fun than Sudoku! I have purchased a second kit. Well done Ventura.PLEASE SEE MY UPLOADED PHOTOS OF THE RACK FITTED TO MY TREK BIKE

For $22 I didn't expect much. When I got it I was stunned by the quality. The finish, the welds, the plated parts, the hardware, everything about it is first rate. I doubt racks costing twice as much would be any better. As a matter of fact, I just recently bought a rack for my Vespa. It was 4 times the cost of this rack. Quite frankly, the Ventura rack is much better quality.Be advised that it's a little rack. It's not designed to carry another person or carry huge loads. For my purposes it's perfect and 55 Ibs capacity is plenty for me. Anyway, I was very pleasantly surprised with virtually all aspects of this rack.I do need to comment on several of my fellow contributors.I don't understand all the people who downgraded the rack on the basis of the instructions. It's packaged in a typical plastic/cardboard package with a diagram and instructions printed on the cardboard. Someone said there were no English instructions. Apparently they can't recognise English because it's there. Aside from the written instructions, all that you really need is the diagram to assemble this unit and even without that, a bicycle rack is a pretty simple device. I don't think I even looked at the instructions since it's so obvious and intuitive to install. I'll tell you, if someone felt compelled to write a bad review on the basis of the instructions, they should do themselves a favor, go to the bicycle store, and pay someone to do the work. Obviously they are not meant to be do-it-your-selfers.

I recently bought a steel rack that was only marginally cheaper than this and initially it seemed fine. But after only a few days it was loosing paint and the brackets were bending. I returned it and say this aluminium one so I thought I'd give it a try.The initial reaction on opening it was the quality was so much better than the other, more adjustable and with much, much better engineering. The fitting was fiddly (as expected) but the only thing that I needed in addition to what was supplied were longer M5 bolts+spacers to clear the rear disk brake on my bike. The finished result looks and feels in a different league compared with the rather cheap and nasty (but not so much of the cheap)steel one I had before. Lovely smooth finish (including the welds) and of course no paint to come off. Oh - and it only weighs half as much as the old one. What's not to like?Well I've docked a point for one thing only: I'm at a loss to understand why this fell-finished black aluminium rack has bright aluminium adjustmenting rods at the top and equally shiny adjustable brackets at the bottom (see pictures). Madness, it looks awful on a black bike. I'm going to take it off and spray the offending parts with satin black paint - it won't quite match the black anodising on the rest of the rack bit it will get rid of the shiny eyesore and match the bike frame :-)

I'll start off by saying I am returning this, but if it had fit I would have happily kept it. It's extremely well made. This feels like a heavy duty, well made product. All the sharp edges are rubberized and covered. The metal feels extremely strong and durable, and the spring is very strong. If this fits your particular bike, then don't hesitate to buy it. But that's a big if. First and most importantly - it's not wide enough for most bikes. I have a Trek 7.2 21 speed hybrid bike and this didn't even come close to fitting. It's about 2 inches too narrow. Another problem I have to mention is the instructions are beyond terrible. I'm hand and was able to easily figure it out,but if you aren't so good with hand tools or problem solving, this may not be the right choice for you. There's about 5 or 6 steps in the intructions, but they honestly read like they were badly translated from a foreign language. This really would have been a 5 start product if the instructions were better or it it actually came close to being "standard" size. If you have a bike that this will fit - don't hesitate. It really is a strong well made product at a much cheaper price than all the others on here. Just make sure it fits first to save yourself some trouble.

Good quality product, which looked better when I got it compared to the photo. Having only just fitted it, I do not actually know how it will last, but it looks like it will last. The instructions are okay, but could be a bit better. However, it is pretty obvious how it goes together. You just need to go through the parts and think about how they fit together. When it comes to actually screwing all together and fixing it to the bike it is pretty straight forward as bike things go. There are enough extras included to allow you over come some difficulties with various bike modelsOne problem I did encounter is that two of the screws for attaching the the carrier to the upright V struts would initially not go through the wholes.By putting some grease on the screws and putting the screws on an allen key they were easy enough to screw in. I wouldn't be critical of this since it means there is a good snug fit. Other reviewers talked about drilling the holes out, I'd avoid this and use the grease, but if you do drill out the holes, there isn't a problem with the aluminium rusting.Depends what your bike is, but this looks the part on mine and doesn't look like some cheap after thought, which to be honest was a slight worry with the photo.

I agree instructions require some mechanical intuition. I also had to ultimately supply a couple of my own machine bolts and cap nuts to fit the particular frame thread sizes on my bike. But, once I dry fit/assembled everything loosely, the assembly fit became apparent and it actually turned out to be a good fit to a Schwinn Sidewinder trail bike. The only force fitting I had to do was put more bend in the forward mounting rods to reach down to a mounting hole Schwinn had placed in the horizontal cross piece between the two rear fork bars. The forward connection is what is most puzzling at the onset, but if your bike has any pre-threaded screw holes for a carrier somewhere below the seat post opening in the frame, this inexpensive, but surprisingly sturdy carrier should work for you. The forward connection assembly has several sliding and rotating components to accommodate different bike sizes and frame designs.About a half hour to play around with the pre-assembly and another half hour to tighten everything down onto the bike. You will also need your own set of Allen wrenches for the bolt heads and metric wrenches to hold the nuts while tightening. What you use the two post/pipe clips for is still a mystery to me.

Have to agree with other reviewers, the installation instructions are atrocious being written in the most execrable English. The manufacturers (and many others I have encountered in the past) would help their reputations greatly if they engaged the services of a native-born speaker of the language they are attempting to write in. It helps if you refer to a photograph of one as the diagrams take a lot of interpretation - general DIY and mechanical know-how helps - and eventually I found my own way once I THOROUGHLY understood how it was supposed to fit. Thus it took me about 2 hours of careful examination, experimentation and adjustment to get the fit right - and now it's on very solidly and I think up to carrying any sensible load.I had to shorten one of the lower fixing screws (on the sprocket side of the rear wheel) as I felt there was, in the case of my bike, a risk of the excess length fouling the chain during gear changes - this is not a criticism of the rack, and minor modification is to be expected when dealing with one-size fits-all products, but I have added it here as a warning to other purchasers.Good value for money overall and quite well finished - would have given 5 stars but for the instructions.

Okay, joining the herd here by removing a star for ridiculously poor instructions, but overall this is a very good rack for a reasonable price. Now, the instructions are poor, and I would suggest ignoring them as it makes it too confusing. Look at the photos other purchasers have uploaded, and it should make it a lot clearer. Assemble loosely before going anywhere near the bike, and don't tighten anything until you have it exactly as you want it. The rack is very adjustable - as you can see from the pics I've uploaded, I have had to put one of the arms on upside-down, to avoid it interfering with my brakes. May look odd, but it does the job so I don't care. For a black rack going on a black bike (Trek FX),would have preferred the connecting arms and stays to also be black, but as I knew they wouldn't be from the images, I can't complain too much. So overall, I would recommend this rack, and to not let the other reviews put you off too much. I read some reviews saying it took 3-4 hours to put on the bike, but I can only presume they were wearing boxing gloves, sunglasses and balancing on their toes. Took me about forty minutes, and I have to say rightie-tighty and leftie-loosie before being let near a tin-opener.

Can be used to attach pannier bags; spring clamp is handy for small parcels. Price was reasonable.Requires allen wrenches for assembly. Directions were in German, but there was a diagram and I was able to figure it out (I purchased a similar rack from someone else some years ago).Assembly of the rear and lower portion is fairly straightforward. The screw at the bottom is fairly long -- I thought it came uncomfortably close to the gear. Workaround: add your own washers to take up the space. (Had to make a trip to the hardware store to buy my own screw and nut, though, as I had an old bike without a threaded screw hole there by the gear. No big deal.)The height of the rack can be adjusted for different sized bicycles.Assembly of forward portion of the rack is a little more complicated (couldn't tell I had things backward until I had it together and tried to attach it). It may be a tad easier, though, on bicycles with screw holes in the fork, which would eliminate the need for the included T-brace (extra screw for T-brace not included).Wish the metal covering on top of the rack would go all the way to the back so it could double as a fender in wet weather.

I got this today from Amazon uk and as it was on its way I read some more reviews to find some people had problems with it.. mainly supports snapping at hole mounts etc. So as this is made entirely from aluminium I have given my view and amendments to fitting the rack, If you think it is helpful then great. The rack itself is well made my package (inside the box) was damaged/tape up but complete although two cap screws were in a sandwich bag and were wrong size (6mm not 4mm) as I have plenty of these etc I assembled the item with loose screws to allow alignment before tightening fully. you will see in the video the washers supplied are too small to support around the holes which is where most people were saying breaking accoutred,So I fitted large "body washer" type to give better support. I have not rode the bike loaded yet so will see how is lasts. I think if the load is ok and fitted correctly (not bent etc) it will be ok. but then for a cheap price and aluminium do expect it to be tough! if you want that get one made from steel. Thanks for reading the review. I apologise for the low sound on the video and I said 10mm instead of 6mm for the 4mm capscrews.

Quick delivery and a very reasonable price for a very flexible piece of kit. Plenty of adjustment available, but I agree with others, the instructions could have been better. Having said that, it didn't take a lot of brain power to work out the missing steps! If you are scared of spanners and screwdrivers and don't have access to basic tools, leave this to the cycle shop! On the positive side, this is the first accessory I have fitted where the bolts and fittings supplied actually fitted the dimensions and threads in my frame - that is worth a star in itself!! When fitted, the rack feels secure, and the weight negligible. The rack is slim in appearance and looks good (so much so that my fashion conscious girlfriend has asked that I get one for her!).Inbuilt spring loaded "trap" for small items is great, and there are plenty of holes for by bungee straps. Feels solid enough for "daily" use, but I'm not sure I would be comfortable loading it up for a weeks touring. It's solid and secure - but it's not a heavy duty accessory. Overall, I'm happy - and off to order another one for the love of my life!!! :-D :-D

The instructions are somewhat confusing. I have years of bike maintenance and repair, so was able to work out what went where, but it took me an hour of fiddling, searching for the bolts I needed (not included) to attach the rack to the frame of the bike, and some cursing of the overly complex method used to secure the top of the rack.I had to bend the two adjustable height bars to line up with the rack and frame correctly. No biggie and they are alloy and will bend (no idea at what point they will break though) but I can imagine some folk having serious issues here. My bike is the 100 pound Halfords ATB1, and has a relatively 'normal' frame geometry for a hard tail mountain bike.Having said all that,I used a 85kg test weight and it appeared to hold that without any strain. Way above the 25kg limit on the packaging. There is a spring loaded clamp on the rack, useful indeed, and lots of points where you can secure panniers or other luggage. It is very light, so that is a plus, as I carry it up a flight of stairs to my apartment.I would rate 5 stars if the instructions and included fixings were better.

The rack comes with many parts and assembly can seem daunting at first. However, take a few minutes to see if you need all of these parts - in the end I did not. I found some convenient attachment points on my bike (a Specialized Crosstrail - a road and trail bike with 700 size wheels) that meant a relatively easy fit.You will need allen keys and a spanner. I used a battery powered electric drill with allen key (or hex) type bits and that made the job very easy. I did need to spend a little time to see how best to fit it - the drawing on the packaging is clear, but not specific about where or how to attach the rack to the frame of the bike. Attachment to the rear forks is obvious, but the fit to the rear of the frame will depend on the model of bike you have. This is where all the various parts come in useful, and it seems like the design is deliberately flexible, so you can probably find a way to fit it to lots of type of bicycle.I am delighted with the rack. It is difficult to get a modern rack with a sprung 'trap'. These used to be standard on bikes years ago.

The item was not that hard to assemble, but I found that there were some screws missing, these are standard sizes that can be obtained from your local bike shop for next to nothing. I ended up with an extra part that I did not know what to do with, but have not found where it goes and have not needed it.Care is needed when putting it on the bike especially if you have mudguards using the mounting holes. If this is the case as I found you may need to use some strength to get in place. At this stage it can be easy to scratch the paint work on the mounting holes.Once on the rack feels sturdy and unloaded I don't notice the extra weight.Friends often ask me where I got the rack and have found it compares favourably to other racks.I've used it extensively over the past 6 months and the rack has continued to perform to my expectations.Taking it on and off once assembled is a 30 second task. The rack has become an essential item for my bike.Hopefully, like me, you will love the rack once it's on, but be prepared for a potentially frustrating assembly experience.

the people who buys in Amazon will understand this: usually if you buy something after (lets say) 7pm, you surely knows the best thing that can happens is to be dispatched the next day and to received it into the next two days.Well....i bought this product yesterday at 10pm, and received it today at 10 am. AMAZING!! probably this not always happens and depends the place where you live, but trust me,,,,right now im waiting for a phillips headphones that bought also here in amazon, and i ordered last monday and im just going to receive them tomorrow.I will never expect that, even more if you think that the headphones i payed 140 pounds and for this product less than 15!the other revies are right, the instructions are terrible, and is true that can be improved if all the the screws where using the same Alen key size, but,,, the quality you receive for what you pay is amazingly good.I really recommend it, do not spend any penny in other more expensive carrier for your bike. this is the one!
