I was looking for a torch which was simple to operate and with the minimum of functions. This model fulfilled those requirements, on/off, wide angle to beam and back, bright to dim and back, plus a strobe (which I didn't need). The light emitted is neutral daylight, which suits me personally as I can't get on with those almost sickeningly cold LED's. The beam is powerful enough to see up to 100 yards clearly at night, I don't need more and there is always a trade-off against battery life. Construction looks and feels solid.The torch is not heavy or bulky and I like the push/pull zoom, which is better than the twist types. Water resistance is IPX4 which is splash proof. I've used it out in the rain without a problem.I can't comment on it's shock proof qualities as I don't intend to drop it on the road to test it.For me there are 2 downsides. The first is the black hole in the centre of the beam when between full beam and zoom. The second, which I think is more important, is the lightness of the on/off switch. It is positive but incredibly light and I've found the torch on in my pocket where it has switched by contact with my clothing. The button is slightly proud and not protected by side guards so this will happen again.Would I buy again? Hmmm, I'm looking at the Sport version with the switch in the end, although I prefer the "classic" position for it.

Thanks too Alicaja (REP for vatra) I got this torch and its already been used for nearly 18 hours so far. I had to change the batteries after 14 hour mark but its excellent not o mention it dims to 30% which is a really nice and useful feature for such a low price.

Great torch. Good beam adjustment and very bright. Oh yeah, and substantial enough to whack someone with should such circumstances arise!

This blows maglite away at a fraction of the cost and so far just as durable, just amazing at the price.

I find Varta to be the best of torches without commanding rip-off prices.
