These two are needed to cut off the old connector - the instructions are quite clear on this.After slipping the knurled nut on the tube, the adaptor is pushed into the air hose. This is hard work (it has to be a tight fit after all) and a little lubrication help. I didn't use any tools here as I was wary of damaging this piece, even though it is metal.I used vice grips loosely to push the knurled locking nut over the adaptor without gripping.A little lubrication over opposite end's two sealing rings prevented trapping either when inserting in the SmartHead.Screwing together the head to adaptor was simple.Worked first time.Strong hands and a couple of simple tools got the job done.

I was pretty apprehensive about buying this, but in the end I'm glad I did.It fitted easily onto the hose of my "topeak joe blow 2" to replacement the (different design) head which came with it and being several years old now had started to leak air out the side.In theory it's a little bit harder to fit to the bike than the previous pump head, as you have to actually screw it onto the valve. In practice is actually seems no slower, as it took me a couple of goes to get the previous head correctly seated - this one takes longer, but it goes on right every time. It seals well around the valve, no air at all leaking out.The current selling price on Amazon (~£25)
