It's not very often I'm compelled to write a review for a purchase, but this was definitely one occasion that warrants it. And no, I wasn't given this tent by Amazon, nor have I received a more favourable price for a positive review; does this really happen???Ok, so a bit about my credentials first...I've not long retired from a 30 year career as an outdoor professional working in Snowdonia and the Highlands along with many overseas expeds ranging from the Nepal Himalaya to paddling the Petawawa in the Algonquin, Canada. I have spent more nights in tents, snow holes and bivvies than I care to remember and have been lucky enough to experience many different types of tents, often in the harshest weather that the British Isles (and other parts of the world) can produce. So, to the tent. Being from a superb pedigree (Terra Nova), the Wild Country Hoolie 2 is of excellent quality, both in terms of materials and build. I was pleased to see that the pegs are well made from a light alloy that are angled in section thereby offering great anchoring performance. As one would expect, the fabrics have good hydrostatic head ratings and seams are taped so, unless punctured, there's little chance of getting wet either from above or below even if on elbows or knees. Due to the inner being connected to the fly it pitches really quickly. The poles are the same length which negates the need to match them to specific sleeves; great for speedy pitching in less than favourable conditions. Once the poles are in, 2 pegs at the very back... stretch the tent forward... 2 pegs at the very front and the tent has it's shape. The inner's corners have eyelets that also fit over the pole ends, similar to the way the fly does on a Quasar, and the inner's rear end is given shape by the elastics sharing the fly's rear-most pegs. Peg out your guys and you're done. Wild Country have sought to address the age old problem of venting by hiding a mesh under the black flaps located over the door and one behind the apex of the rear pole. In principle, with a little wind to pump the tent this should work well, but I'm curious to see how it fairs if rain is being driven up the back of the tent by strong winds.Apart from the weight - more about that later - perhaps the most important aspect for me is how stable the tent is. With 10 guys (2 on each side supporting the poles, and 3 at each end) this is a very stable tent. If pitched tail into wind I would have the utmost confidence in this tent being able to withstand most winds that we experience here in the UK. Given its stability I'm surprised at its 3 season rating. The tent has enough space for 2 in summer conditions and perhaps a bit more of a squeeze in the winter. And the weight? At a stated 2.3kg this is by no means a super light tent, but it's not heavy either. I've not popped it on the scales, but then I don't think I need to. I bought this tent knowing that it wasn't the lightest on the market but, in my humble opinion, it represents outstanding value for money. The fact is, rather than being provided by my previous organisation I now have to buy my tents so cost was an important factor. If a light 2 person tent is what you're after go for the Terra Nova Voyager (other tents available!) but expect to pay a premium for only shaving off a few hundred grams. I will be happily carrying this tent on solo trips into the hills. In sum if you're looking for a ultra light 2 person tent this is not the tent for you. If you're looking for a very stable, well made tent from a proven stable that offers outstanding value for money the Hoolie 2 should be on your short list.

Hi,Just up graded from my much loved ( worn out ) Vango Tempest 200. Was looking for a bit more space and weight saving for backpacking.Found this, A 2.1kg ( trail weight ) tent from top end maker Terra Nova for £111.00! How could I go wrong?Well I haven't!Great tent for the money. Light, very easy one pitch design ( had mine up in 10 mins first time out! will have that down to about 5 mins ), lots of room for 1-2 people plus kit. Tons of room for me, kit and exped. synmat 7 UL LW. I took it out the other weekend. Really impressed with build quality. Really impressed with the repair kit. Good ventilation. Didn't get much of a pounding by the weather but, looks like it would take it,Lots of guy's to hold it down in adverse weather.Pro: Light weight, simple design, easy pitch, build quality, floor / porch space, ventilation, Terra Nova tent at 1/4 the price.Cons: Could be a bit higher, preferred the guy adjustments on the Vango. All in all a great tent for backpacking, DofE or when weight and price is a priority. Yes, you could buy lighter but, you' need to spend £400-£600!Will be taking it out in the next few weeks, can't wait!Oh, if Terra Nova is watching, Would be an idea to sell the Hoolie ETC pole and fly sheet to give this tent options on different trips??? That would be awesome!Happy trails folks!Mr T

I have researched lots of tent for backpacking and already have Macpac Microlight, Vaude and Vango tents. Vaude Taurus Ultralight is light but it was blown away twice in Scotland. Macpac is the lightest and the most compact but not much room for me, my dog and a backpack. I like Vaude Campo Compact XT 2P for lots of room and stability in strong wind, but it is heavy 3 kg and bulky for backpacking, good if you camp with a car though.I have got recently Vango Mirage 200 and it is extremely wind resistant and a nice tent, but still not so roomy as Vaude Campo, so I wanted something bigger inside and Hollie 2 is ideal for me as it is 2.3kg, lots of room, wind resistant ( if you peg everything, though have not tried yet) and it less bulky than Vango Mirage plus you can compress it without damage, which you cannot do with Vango Mirage because of arches for anti condensation openings. Now I need to spray it against UV with Nikwax and hope to enjoy my camping. I recommend Outdoorgear as I got the tent in a day!

Feel quite fortunate to have got this tent, all reviews are very good and Terra Nova products are highly rated. Taken it out 3 times now and it's had plenty of bad weather thrown at it. It performs really well, interior very snug and well ventilated with plenty of room for your pack and boots in the front outer space. Granted, it's a bit heavy on the backpacking side but the comfort and security it offers is well worth the extra weight.

This tent is a fantastic compromise between weight and price. Easy and quick to put up with the inner already attached. Generous storage in the front porch which was a point to consider for the epic bike journey. Nice to have a good size sack for storage.... nothing worse than trying to do battle with a tent which won't fit into its bag first thing in the morning!.....
