Well that’s a first, this Smart Trike comes with all the necessary accessories, including notably a combined Allen key and Philips head screwdriver! I am impressed before the pram/trike is even assembled. This wheeled toy is a mixture of plastic and metal. The colour theme is an attractive navy and red (see photo) and this pram/trike can be adjusted in four stages as your child develops - so the child can move with parental aid (15 months) in a push chair contraption with three wheels and weather protection to full independent tricycling (3 years) with pram peripheries removed. There is a clever red parental override on the mud guard so that either parent or child can control the direction of the front wheel. As a pushchair,an easy-to-open-and-shut weather canopy and three-point harness are provided together with a padded back rest that extends over the seat. If the child’s feet cannot reach the pedals then they are able to make use of a matching red footrest. There is also a press stud 100% polyester removable bag adjoining the push stem at the rear of the trike that is ideal for a mobile, keys and wallet with an additional larger storage bag. As a trike, the small hinged lidded plastic basket at the back is fabulous for a child to wheel around their most precious items. There is also a plastic drinks holder at the front. This is an extremely well designed and delightful product. The separate instructions are monochrome and diagrammatic as are the instructions that appear on the stem and pole of the trike. They are surprisingly detailed but did leave us a little confused at times, when assembling the parts. It also took longer than anticipated to put together. This is not cheap. It is £90 (Amazon September 2019). However, this is cleverly designed from concept to manufacture; it is robust and perfect to encourage outdoor play as well as getting a reluctant toddler to move from A to B!

Once built, the SmartTrike provides a novel way for a child to explore the world without being as restricted as they would be in a buggy and I love that it can grow with him to build up his confidence with cycling before he moves onto a bike. I’d say the building process probably took me about 30 minutes – there are only picture instructions which are not always the clearest and take a bit of discovery to find out what it’s supposed to mean. You don’t need any tools – it comes with an Allen key with a screwdriver on one end suitable for all the screws (there aren’t many) – most of it just slots together. With this ‘650’ model, you’ve got a sun canopy,a smaller bag and a shopping bag to attach as well as storage space in the lidded bucket at the back and a cup holder at the front. I love that you are able to have control – you can turn the front wheel around which detaches it from the handlebars so is guided by subtle movements in the parent handle or they can turn it and decide where you’re going to go. My son is 2 so hasn’t yet got the hang of cycling the trike himself but eventually he can have that complete freedom and just use it as a more traditional trike. It seems very durable although the canopy won’t be that easy to clean (other than with a cloth) and when it is fully built, it’s quite bulky for storing and also not that easy to just throw in the car (unless you have a lot of space). His face absolutely lit up through and when we are out, he will ‘steer’ so feels more involved in our journeys. It’s not great on rough ground though making a bit difficult at our local park when we go off path so is more suited to a street/path environment. It’s highly recommended though especially compared to the cheaper trikes with parent handles.

My 18-month-old son has just started using this trike, and is a huge fan.The trike comes with reasonably easy-to-follow instructions, and took me about 45 minutes to build. The smart thing about the trike is how it grows - or actually shrinks, as parts come off - as the child gets older and needs less assistance in steering.Phase 1, which we are currently in, has a larger seat with straps, a plastic safety ring to keep the child in the seat, a sun-shade (optional) and no steering capabilites. My son loves sitting in it, pretending he is steering using the handlebars. It's a nice alternative to the pushchair when taking him to the shops, and the bag and box on the back provide storage for a couple of handfuls of groceries. There is also a useful pouch attached to the top of the handle that parents hold, allowing you to stash your phone, wallet etc (or one of your kid's toys).Although my son is not using them yet, I have tried the other three phases of the trike. It is very quick and easy to recalibrate the trike for these phases - takes about two minute for each one. Some parts have to be removed - the larger seat cover, for example, and the parent's steering handle - while others simply tuck away into the bike frame (the foot rests used in phase one). To enable child steering, you simply turn the front wheel cover round 180 degrees and lock it into place.Overall, I think this offers outstanding value, as it should last your child for around two years. The parts all appear to be well made, the wheels and pedals turn well, and my son seems to find it comfortable. Very impressed.

Our eldest is currently learning to ride his bike so this was a welcome trike to push our youngest in without resorting to the pushchair.I was surprised how small the box was that it came in but sure enough all the pieces were there. It took me about 45 minutes to build (instructions are a must) and no other tools were required apart from the provided Alan key/ phillips screwdriver. My 23 month old couldnt wait to get in it!The reason I haven't given this 5 stars is because the higher-backed seat and the canopy can't be used without the side bumpers as they are all inter-connected - we dont feel that we need to use the bumpers howeber we have had to in order to use the main seat /seat cover and the hood. The hood is a lot better than what we had on our son's old trike (basically a flat frame wih a piece of mesh, attached to the trike frame by a bendy "arm") althoigh interestingly the instructions for this trike had ge assembly instructions for the old type of sun canopy - however once you're at this point, assembly is pretty intuitive.

The Trike arrived in a medium large box, not that heavy and well protected for transport. There are some instructions with the set-up and this takes a little bit of working out as to how this fits, straight forward enough if you are used to this type of DIY and half expected. The set took over 30 minutes to assemble ready to use. This does come with a tool but I tend to use a powered tool ready for such occasions. The trike is being used by our 2 year old grand-daughter who will get some 12 months or usage from this set. The canopy and the bag are very useful additions and the set-up where this can be broken down as the child grows is a excellent idea and quite useful for longevity usage. We are pleased with the overall quality and build construction of the 4 in 1 Baby Tricycle set and can recommend this as we have used this to anyone considering the purchase.

My 18month old daughter really enjoys using her trike. She appears to be comfy in the seat and the safety harness fits well and is easy to adjust. There is good coverage from the sun with the hood up which is perfect in the summer, however I do feel this would be good if the height was adjustable as it doesn’t look as if there is much room above her head. There is a useful plastic box on the back which my daughter enjoys putting her toys in, however the plastic does feel slightly flimsy. She also enjoys being able to put her drink in the drink holder on the front.Easy to assemble with clear instructions and even better you only need the Allen key provided to put the trike together. There is a large shopping bag which attaches to the back, I found this very handy when out and about. The handle to push the trike is also adjustable. Would definitely recommend.

We love this Smartrike. We got it for our 20 month old boy who hates going in the pushchair, so we needed an alternative. He loves going in this!It was so easy to put together - great instructions and took 10 minutes to slot it all in together. Easy to steer and loads of storage for baby bag, my son loves the cup holder.Overall we think this is a great buy and my son loves it!

Very easy to assemble and great value for money. My toddle loves it. Thickness of all materials are great. Only with the back of the seat wasn't as straight or could move alittle bit as son doesn't seem comfortable with sitting up straight but that might be because I have a strange child ?. Great product and extremely happy with this purchase.

Made a couple errors when assembling and although they were easy to rectify, I had to find a video on YouTube as the instructions don’t help with dismantling.Great bike when assembled though.
