I see folk complaining about the wheel slipping, but the design must have been changed because mine has a serrated wheel and the mechanism is really smooth so no cause for complaint. It's really accurate, too, if you use the scales on the dial (but I rarely do that, I just unwind back to zero along the straight scale of the map).I bought this only because I couldn't find the old one (similar pattern, smaller dial, longer handle) that I had used for many years. Now I think I'm glad I lost the old one as this is a lot better !

Originally had the Silva digital map measurer, but had this had a clock built in to it (why did they think we would need that ?) and it was constantly on and therefore drained the battery, so I decided to go retro and buy this all mechanical device. Well buit, simple to use and accurate. Covers most scales that you would probably need.

Does what it says on the tin - measures routes on maps. Pretty easy to use - although it can run away with itself if the map is fabloned. Only does km, but at all scales, which is good - just need to convert to miles/ NM on the roamer. Useful bit of kit if you need to accurately know how far you are going/ have been.

I bought this in order to easily measure the distance of my walks on "Ordnance Survey" maps so as to check the accuracy of my pedometer. The screen is double sided, with large scales depicted on one side and smaller scales on the other. Very easy to use. and it arrived earlier than expected.

This is a simple to use map measurer although the coloured bands around the outside are a little confusing to start with. I contacted the seller and they didn't know the relevance of it, neither did Silva it seems.However, if you ignore this the measure works fine.

This brand is the best mechanical map measurer. Lots of scales, and therefore most useful - does what it says on the tin. These measurers are all a but fiddly, but this one will exasperate less than others!

This works really well however it doesn't have the scale of the four maps I just brought.The scales are:1:100 0001:50 0001:25 0001:15 000and on the other side..1:750 0001:500 0001:400 0001:200 000

No technology, just a scaled wheel. Works well to see how far you have walked or cycled. Easy to take with you if needed and no batteries to run out!Scale is a little small to read without specs.

Very Good ignore the reviews about it slipping on the map as Silva have taken advice onboard and changed it to a serated wheel and it is now very accurate with a clear scale..

This instrument works well. Seems to be little to go wrong. Easy enough to read and changing between scales works fine. Following around roads on the map is quite easy.

found it easy to use and works for what I wanted it to do, nothing special and can see where some people might find it a bit difficult to use but I had no problems

This product does exactly what is says. Simple but effective. I would highly recommend this as it does exactly what it pro ports to do.

Does what it says and seems to be very accurate. Writing on dial is very small and a job to see.
