The reviews for this item are variable. However as someone familiar with the price-range of digital map measurer i think it is being under-credited in it's reviews.A word of warning. Do not be tempted to buy Chinese knock-offs of Silva products. It's a false economy. In this instance the branded products is all the difference. Chinese unbranded knock-offs of Silva products are inaccurate, cheaply made and often fail to work too quickly.Pros:1. Silva are really the only reliable supplier of digital map measurer's in this price range. Their product works, is very accurate and comes with good packaging and instruction manual. They are a Swedish company.2. This model sees massive improvements on the former kay-chain model.Useful additions are the measure-hold button and setting the interface via the scroll wheel. The case is much more robust than the last design, despite reviewer's comments. It's also much easier to programme than the last model.3. The neck band is useful - obviously been thought about re: the detachable connection so it doesn't get in the way when using the item.Cons:1. The shape is a little awkward to hold - but only as in one needs to get used to using it. The same issue existed with the previous Silva Key-chain model.2. I'm not sure about the always-on. I would prefer to switch the item off completely to save battery use as an item such as this sits in a draw for a good part of the year. However, i may be wrong but perhaps always-on helps preserve the life of the screen for much longer where i like others experienced the failure of the screen to work after about 6 years of use.3. The extra feature of timing and distance is not really of huge use when variable terrain is being navigated. I would prefer to crack the issue of the over all shape of the design. But some may find it useful.4. Lack of waterproof carry case / pouch which seems an obvious requirement given it's marketed to hikers and sailors.5. A Chinese knock-off of a Silva measurer was inaccurate but was able to offer measurements in quantums of feet, inches, yards, meters, cms. It would be good to see these kind of measurements available in a Silva product. Useful for interior designers, architects and home DIY enthusiasts.

This is one of the best things I've purchased this year! It arrived promptly and well packaged. The instructions are good and it is so nice to use! Great way of working out routes over all sorts of terrains on Maps and excellent because it can cope with so many different scales. A must for anyone who does walking, cycling and especially great for people doing expaditions or Duke of Endingburgh. Excellent product!

I was looking for a digital map measurer to replace one that was ailing.I chose the Silva Digital map measurer plus after reading customer reviews from Amzon which I found mixed.I decided that this model was the type that fitted my requirements and I have to say that it is very good. Easy to set up and use, I am more than pleased.

A very versatile piece of equipment, slightly complicated for the first few uses. I mainly use this for route planning for my walking group. The measurer is good value at around £18 + p&p and it arrived before the given delivery date. First class.

The Silva map measure plus works very well and is usefull for planning walks when taking the grand children so I dont over strech them. If I had to be critical about this product the lettering on the unit could do to be a bit larger.

Works great as measuring tool with a little practice. Will be helpful in planning trips and routes that are not in a straight line. Feature of setting map scale is wonderful.

Good for finding your distance covered. A little bit fidley but with a bit of patience it works ok. Easy to set to the scale of the map.

The greater the scale the less accurate. 1:50 000 or above.
