I had the original Canon 24-105 f/4 (which I was pretty happy with) but sold it in anticipation of the version II. I tried two copies of the 24-105 f/4 II and both had serious AF shift issues, which couldn't be solved by micro-adjust.... which is a shame as, optically, the lens is extremely good (when the AF isn't playing silly beggars!). So I rather reluctantly went down a path I've previously tried to resist and bought the Sigma 24-105 f/4 Art.It definitely looks like Sigma has upped its game lately in response to Canon's release of the next generation of L lenses - I have found their 24-105 to be better than any of Canon's versions. My only real gripe is that it's a little softer than the Canons towards 105mm,but I suspect this is down to a slight back-focusing issue with my copy. I have purchased the USB dock, which should solve it, but since I mostly use 24-105s below 70mm, it's not too big a deal. Where this lens does seem to shine is at the wider end, between 24 and 50mm - much sharper than the original Canon 24-105 and a fraction sharper than the best results the version II could offer (although like many lenses premium sharpness is achieved at between f/8 and f/11). Colour and contrast are both excellent, but I did notice a tendency to over-expose - which isn't an issue with a bit of negative stop compensation dialled in. Chromatic aberration is much less than either Canon L, with the 24-105 II surprisingly displaying the most fringing. The OS is a little more sluggish than that in the Canons, but still effective enough.I'd love to award this lens five stars, but that lack of sharpness/focus shift at 105mm means I have to settle upon four. If the USB dock solves the problem (no reason why it shouldn't) I'd be happy to give that fifth star!Perhaps the biggest selling point of this lens is its price. For £640, you can get both the lens and the USB dock, which is a lot less than Canon's inferior 24-105 II costs (currently around £1010 at best). The original Canon 24-105 is still available from some places, and is slightly cheaper than the Sigma if you buy a 'white box' version, but in all honesty I'd just go with the Sigma. Possibly the only way I'd reconsider my opinion is if I mainly shot at 105mm, but for most photographers this is a focal length covered by an overlap with other lenses in their collections.

Excellent lens... read professional reviews and view MTF charts before buying and if it's yourfirst full frame camera and lens then read about full frame cameras too. They are not the 'Holy Grail' but theyare different from aps-c and so are the lenses in ways that require appropriate thought... you may disagree (disagreeing withpeople's opinions on photography seems to be fashionable) but this is only my professional opinion.I could write a review but it would take up too much room, suffice it to say that the lens is very well made, itzooms smoothly, focuses fast and has more reach than the competition (so far),it's the best around for the money andeven the 105 setting is usable but I never shoot with a zoom out to the stop at either end if I can avoid it.I use Sony a99 bodies and a77II bodies and although 'only' 24mp I reckon it's not stretching the lens' capabilities andowning Sony is the biggest consideration for choosing a lens, I have owned the Sony/CZ 24-70mm mkI and the Sony/CZ 16-35mm mkIbut will be buying the Tamron 15-30mm soon............deduce what you will but I buy equipment to do a job and itneeds to be cost effective, it matters not one jot what name is on the lens or body, in 50 years nobody has ever asked what I use.As I said, there are technical reviews out there that will give all the details needed

Camera’s come ang go; glass however is another story. Those that know, invest in glass over camera technology. Say what you like about Sigma’s Art range of lenses; bottom line, they (Sigma) produce some fantastic glass. The Art range continues to grow and continues to go from strength to strength. The Sigma 24-105 mm F4 DG HSM Lens is no exception. I have it mirrored to both Full Frame and APS-C cameras. Obviously, I see better results from the Full Frame camera but the APS-C (crop sensor) cameras do not disappoint. To get the VERY best from the lens, I strongly urge you to investigate the Reikan FoCal software. Once purchased, the camera and lens can be AF Fine Tuned with ease.Critical as Sigma’s lens’ do suffer from front and back focusing issues. My copy was tolerable but once corrected with FoCal, all of my focused images are now tack sharp.Believe everything you read about the 24-105; it really is that good! There are tens of reviews on the lens, most of which are credit-worthy. Those that are enthuse about the lens’ quality and ability to render a good image. The only downside, and it’s the ONLY downside, it’s big and it’s heavy. I live with this small issue because the quality of the images are right up there in my opinion.

This is my first foray into the sigma "art" range and i have to say i am very impressed with the pure sharpness of this zoom lens.I have attached a throw away image taken straight out of the camera at 105mm (F4.5, ISO 200) using this lens on a d750, through a dirty window and without proper setup. Very much a fire and delete image but i feel it demonstrates just how pin sharp even at the extremes of the range it is. The second image is a 100% crop of the original.Down at 24mm the lens is slightly wide angle on a FF body, perfect for my landscape work and is great for shooting in tight spaces.Nice boek, not too extreme.Downsides to the lens. Well,Its pretty heavy and bulky but that's to be expected given its a FF lens and relativity low aperture. I am not sure how i feel about the placement of the focus ring at the base of the lens but im sure over time i will get used to it.Also, you need to take care of ghosting and lens flare if any light source hits the lens (i would assume due to its slightly convex outer glass). All in all, a very good FF zoom lens at a reasonable price. I would advise if you want the sharpest image, try to hit F4.5-7, it can be a little more soft either side of this.

I recently upgraded my body to full-frame and my walkabout lenses were for cropped so I needed a replacement and this fits the bill brilliantly the focal range makes it an ideal walkabout lens the quality of the optics is fantastic with fast autofocus V.R and f4 is reasonably fast for most of my photos (I have primes when I need faster) image quality is fantastic at all focal lengths . I would recommend this lens to anyone thinking of getting one.UPDATE I found this lens performed fantastic straight out of the box the calibration was pretty much spot on a little fine tweaking with the dock improved it even more.My friend has recently bought the same lens and it was a different story focus was way out and couldn't be corrected using the dock after contacting Sigma it was returned to them with the camera body via a local dealer for calibration it was then returned a week later absolutely spot on at no charge whatsoever absolutely fantastic customer service from Sigma UK from start to finish to ensure customer satisfaction

I am a Canon camera user, and except for my Canon EF 75-300mm f4/5.6 MK III Non USM, purchase back in 2005, all my other lens are manufactured by Sigma.I have the 17-35mm f2.8-4 EX DG HSM, 24-70mm f2.8 EX DG Macro and the 70-200mm f 2.8 EX DG HSM Macro, and they all in my opinion produce quality images. The last time I purchased a lens was 9 years ago.I recently purchased a Canon 5D mark III and wanted a lens to compliment this camera.I thought of purchasing the Canon equivalent but with all the reviews, it became clear that the Canon was not up to the image quality of the Sigma. What really sold me was the YouTube's Tony & Chelsea Northrup Sigma 24-105 f/4 Review vs Canon 24-105 f4.I have usedthis lens for a few weeks and the quality of the images when viewed in Photoshop is exceptional.Canon manufactures first class cameras, Sigma manufactures first class glass. You will not be disappointed in purchasing this lens.

i should have bought this lens first! As an all-round lens this is first class. I bought the sony 28-70GSM F2.8 as the first lens for my new Sony A99ii which is a great lens but twice the price of this Sigma one. This Sigma is a superb allrounder and is especially good for travel and portrait work. I have really come to love these art lenses by Sigma for portraits as they give a wonderful angelic quality to the final results. We bought a Sigma 28-120 for our Nikon 750 and that was a wonderful lens. This Sigma 28-105 lens only stops down to F4 but to be honest this is enough for 99% of shots. The number of times that you actually need a wider aperture is very limited. In summary - Great quality, flexibility and great value for money. If I had bought this lens first i would have saved thousands on other lenses for my Sony A99ii.

I have the Sigma 17-50 F2.8 and bought the 24-105 F4 as a replacement. I shoot action in the evening, most of the time without a flash. Obviously the 2.8 can let in more light, but I generally shoot around F4/5.6 anyway to make that image sharper.I was blown away by how sharp the 24-105 actually is. I can zoom in quite a lot and it's still very sharp throughout the zoom range. This is definitely a much better lens than the 17-50. It does cost more money, is bigger, is heavier, but I highly recommend it. I think if you need just one lens, this lens should be it.I've previously owned the Sigma 70-200 F2.8 and that was an amazing sharp lens with amazing bokeh. However that lens was too big and heavy for my needs.I haven't compared the photos from that and this lens side by side, but I think it could be similar.

Soon after buying this lens, encouraged by all the positive reviews on the internet (including Tony Northrup's that someone here mentioned), it became my primary one.I tend to carry my camera (Canon 6D Mark II) in a backpack almost all the time, when taking a walk, commuting, etc., as I never know when a nice photo opportunity might pop up. Not being a pro photographer, I wanted to have a single lens that I'd rarely need to replace. Of course, I take it off for specific reasons like macro photography or when I need a telephoto lens, but for most of the photos, this lens does its job remarkably well. Now I am able to just grab the camera and shoot in practically all everyday situations, without much hassle yet with great results, and I'm really happy to have bought this lens.

Bought this lens for my Canon 5D m2 and Sony A7 m2Took a while to work out a middle ground with so many lens options, but worth the choice.I’m not a serious photographer like wildlife, sports etc just a hobbyist really, but this lens so far is great for portraits or not being to close to my son :) so I can capture moments without having lens right in people his face and capture more them small moments.Overall a Great all rounder with great focus and sharpness :) and if your the kind of person wondering weather to go f/2 or f/4 go with the f/4 you can adjust your settings for the slight light loss and the advantage is you can buy some of the other great fixed lens which are out there 24, 50,and maybe a 85mm

After a year of owning this lens it does get better the more you use it. I own 3 Sigma lenses now and apart from my 14-24 F2.8 which is double the price to buy this comes and easy second in regards to quality. To be able to pick a day where you fancy just shooting a focal length of 35mm or 50mm and know the lens will perform well is a great option to have, even at the far end of the zoom the quality is still great for most scenarios. This beats my prime Sigma 20mm F1.4 in optical quality i think. For the price i think its an excellent buy and looked after will last you years to come. i would have no problem in recommeding this lens for the price point. I use it on a D810 by the way.

I thought this lens after reading some excellent reviews on the Internet, this lens is incredibly sharp wide open at f/4, and that is viewed at 100% magnification, no need to sharpen in lightroom. Up to now I have been using the Nikon 24 to 70 F2.8, but I've never been really happy with that lens, The Sigma is much sharper, there is some shading in the corners but this is easily correctable in lightroom. I am using this lens for wedding photography, and have been stunned by the results. It's a heavy lens but no heavier than the Nikon. And you have image stabilisation as a bonus. I consider it superb value for money, and I'm happy to use it for professional use.

solidly built, quite bulky and heavy, but still worth while over the typical Nikon kit lens due to overall performance and superior image quality. To get any better you would have to go to the much more expensive f2.8 lenses, but i doubt if you would see much difference.I use it as my standard lens on a D750, and it has been excellent in every day shooting and more semi pro architectural and wedding work.I used to think of Sigma as being not quite as good as the Nikon, but I think that with the Art lenses they have gone beyond them, certainly for the same price point. The pictures are good, and the lens feels much better than the often plasticky rivals.

I absolutely love this lens! I am using it on my Nikon D750 and it never comes off. It's my day to day lens for all occasions. It only goes down to f4 so if I want something for low light I'll put on my 50mm Nikon.]I find this lens to be very sharp and consistent. Focus is quick with a good range of colours. It is heavy though especially with something like a D750. But that's the price you pay for top quality images. My Lumix GX7 cannot come close to it.UPDATE: 2 and 1/2 years later and I am still using this lens with my D750. It is an amazing combination. I rarely take the Sigma off, and if I do it is to go light with the Nikon 50mm.

Excellent delivery arrived with 4 days of order and 3 weeks ahead of schedule fantastic - well packaged .I have just changed from Canon to Nikon and have always used the 24-105 L series as my everyday carry about holiday lens, this art lens knocks the L Series clean out of the water - I love it - whilst not as sharp as the 50 art prime lens or the Nikon 85mm prime lens ( nothing can beat a prime) the images are sharp and clear - very happy - if you are a portrait photographer it wont replace your primes but other wise highly recommended . it is a solid built high performing lens.
